Could you help with translation?

There is a sentence I don't understand 'employment is ancillary to their
studies'. The only meaning of the word 'ancillary' i know is 'helpful' and it
doesn't help.
Here is the whole paragraph/context:
It's about studentships eligbility:
(..)'A person could lose EEA migrant worker status if:
• employment is ancillary to their studies
• they left work voluntarily without good reason
• they left work to begin a course of study which had no link to their
previous employment'

Thank you for your help

      'ancillary'(adj) means 'of secondary importance'...:)
