        • misslucrecia Re: speak about what? 02.10.03, 22:36
          It probably means: 'no comment'

Who are you to change the rules of the forum. The forum is clearly marked
English only, so that's what it should be.

There are plenty of other places for people who can't use English.

A little bit of unruly anarchy.....

How about a ruly anarchy? Or maybe structured anarchy?

Hmm, unruly, ruly, structured. I know I heard about cheerful anarchy (i.e. He worked with an air of cheerful anarchy. But usually anarchy is ugly while order is beautiful unless you're some kind of a freak Mr Interesting.

interestED (!) WHYdo people want to fanatically follow rules and more
              than that :
WHY do people want to ensure that the others also precisely follow the
              rules?!
The results of these sort of attitudes are:
-all totalitarian systems including US and Soviet Union & Argentina to
              mention but a few
-Holy Inquisition etc etc just to go for the most obvious ones
-Islam, Saddam, the success of all those is based on over zelous
followers and skillfull madmen at the top

              Let's not create microdictatorships here.
You ban it - it will flourish!
              Remember prohibition?
Remember banning Polish in schools in 19th century?
Remember banning German in schools anywhere in Silesia after second
              world war?
              Where did it get us?
              Think about Marijuana?!
Consider how unacceptable interracial relationships were a few years
              back...
              ====================
all right that was too deep & dramatic..
Personally I am not here to enforce rules or to change them or to follow
              them.
Don't like it? Filter! Go discuss things elsewhere!
This forum is constantly evolving, like language and culture itself and it is
              a crime to stall it!
Do you think that the English spoken in India or Jamaica is perfect
              Queens English?
Bollox to that! They speak it their way and the rest of the world will have to
strain their ears, which they are more than happy to do anyway.
For Tikka Massala! For Ragga Music!
Why not for Bigos & Zywiec, for f***'s sake!
I do not wish to pick on anyone's grammar or vocabulary, spelling etc
              here,
I do not mind helping out out ( if I can and feel like it )
We are all at a linguistic advantage here, why not reap the benefits of that?
The English spoken here is by no means representative of native English
speaking world and that's why I like it, for the unique culture of it, the social
insight and the sheer twisted "promiscuity" of it (I mean nobody speaks
like that in UK or US, I LOVE IT!).
That's why all of us are still here, contributing and enjoying it and twisting
              it....
              Let people be!

                -----------
Let me give you another example from history

Remember Rzeczpospolita szlachecka and its parliament whose members were
shouting 'veto!' whenever someone tried to restore order in the country?
Remember what happened to RP eventually?

                Seriously now
No one in this forum has the power to remove threads or control their content
in any way so please stop talking about banning, dictatorship, totalitarism
and so on because it's ridiculous. It may happen one day though, that a thread
such as this one disappears into "old posts" before anyone posts a reply
because there are 30 new posts on the main page asking for simple
translations. No real discussion, just requests and advertisments. Is that
                what you want?

                > This forum is constantly evolving, like language and culture itself and it
                is
                > a crime to stall it!

evolving? to me, the present situation looks like a step backwards rather than
                evolution.

                > The English spoken here is by no means representative of native English
                > speaking world

What does it have to do with anything? Either you have entirely missed the
point or you've run out of arguments. The whole discussion is NOT about
anybody's grammar or spelling, it's about trying to keep this forum
an "English only" forum. The 'quality' of this English is not the issue here.
I myslef am perfectly happy with my pidgin English and couldn't care less if
someone was picking on it. What a stupid idea anyway. The point is I'd like to
read posts in ENGLISH no matter how good or bad it is.

                  we are, aren't we?
                  How about visiting Guardian instead?
This is not pidgin English, we or you have not created one yet.

As far as picking is concerned, this IS an issue here. Big one!

                  to wacko:

Don't get excited, I don't want to encourage you to go all patriotic here, you
may take the stars and stripes down

How is US system totalitarian? Beats me.
Unless you know something I don't.

I'm still here i tak mi sie, podoba, like in Polish Parliament!
              Total anarchy!
Try to make them follow the rules!
              Isn't it fantastic!?
We cannot possibly do anything about that.
I dare say Polish parliament is more entertaining than the Italian!
              Beat that!
