General comments? Since November 2003 Austrian Airlines has abolished the
free on board service on its flights that last 90 minutes or less. Once known
for its excellent service even in economy class they now act like a no frills
carrier, albeit with ticket prices still sky high. Consequently on the flight
from Vienna to Berlin there was only bottled water offered by the flight
attendants. I spoke with the flight attendants and they themselves did not
seem to be very happy about that new policy. If you want to get something to
drink or something to eat they charge you hefty prices (3 Euro for a beer or
7 Euro for a sparkling wine). The worst thing is that Austrian Airlines tries
to sell its massive reduction in service and comfort as a new innovation that
allows passengers to choose what they really want. As a passenger and
consumer I want to be taken seriously. If there is a chance I will avoid
Austrian Airlines in future.
