IPTS is one of the seven scientific institutes of the European Commission's
Joint Research Centre (JRC). The IPTS was set up to focus on analysing the
links between technology, the economy and society. Its mission is “to provide
customer-driven support to the EU policy-making process by researching
science-based responses to policy challenges that have both a socio-economic
as well as a scientific/technological dimension”. The institute's work
therefore focuses on monitoring and analysing science and technology
developments and the impact they have on society and the economy. Located in
Seville, Spain, the IPTS has over 150 employees from Member States and
Candidate Countries. The ICT Unit is one of the four Institute's scientific
units. The aim of the ICT Unit is mainly to provide policy support in
Information Society Technologies-related policies to the European
Institutions, and in particular to DG INFSO. More information is available at
www.jrc.es/home/pages/ict_unit.htm.
We propose
The ICT unit is recruiting an economist to support its research in the areas
of ICT Industry competitiveness, R&D and Innovation dynamics, IS
developments, and their overall relation to Growth and Employment. The
candidate will be offered to join a very active team running numerous studies
at European and world level, with a view of integrating technological and
socioeconomic analysis into policy-support oriented synthesis and
recommendations to the European Institutions.
We look for
A senior researcher or senior economist with a solid background in
socioeconomic studies, interested and capable in joining a multidisciplinary
research team (Economists, Engineers, Sociologists, Psychologists, etc.) to

candidate is expected to have a fair knowledge of neoclassical, evolutionary
and industrial economy as well as a proven track in research.
