Please note that your international driving licence, which gives you the
right to drive in Belgium, is no longer valid as from the moment you go to
the commune to register your stay in Belgium. In case you didn't obtain your
international driving licence before coming to Belgium, you are not allowed
to drive in Belgium at all.
When you go to the commune to request your official registration documents,
your international driving licence is no longer valid.
The moment you receive your official registration documents "CIRE -
Certificat d'Inscription au Registre des Etrangers/BIVR - Bewijs van
Inschrijving in het Vreemdelingenregister" (which will take about a month),
you need to ask for your driving licence to be converted into a Belgian
driving licence. This procedure takes another few weeks, during which you are
not allowed to drive.
