During its meeting of 25 and 26 October 2005, the Board of Governors confirmed
that a guarantee of a place in the school of their choice could not be given to
parents of Category I pupils applying to enrol their children in Brussels.
Furthermore, it is clear that in view of the major problems of space currently
facing the European Schools in Brussels, (especially in the schools of Brussels
II and Brussels III),a very strict enrolment policy will have to be followed
        for the school year 2006-2007.
If a transition site is acquired for the enrolment of pupils in September 2006
this policy may in that event be subject to amendment.
The Directors have decided together with the OSG:
        1. not to accept any category III pupils before the end of the current
school year. Following that date only siblings of present pupils and pupils
transferred from another European School may be considered for admission.
        2. in the case of the Brussels II and Brussels III schools, as last year,
only one nursery group will be created in the English, French, German, Italian
or Spanish sections for the year 2006-7. However, if this policy is not
sufficient to enrol all the siblings of present pupils who apply for enrolment,
a second group may be opened but only for the reception of the siblings of
        pupils already attending the school.
        3. that, all new applications, regardless of level, in Brussels II and
Brussels III from Category I non siblings, in the language sections mentioned
in 2 above, will be passed to Brussels I.
        4. not to accept any transfers of presently enrolled (2005-6) pupils
between the schools with the exception of siblings seeking to join their
        brothers/sisters.
        5. to take into account, when approaching the maximum of 32 children in a
class, that space should be available for those whose mother tongue is only
        available in that school.
        6. to conduct the process of admission in accordance with the following
principle, without prejudice to point 2 above.
Pupils from the new Member States without a language section corresponding to
their mother tongue must be enrolled as follows:Slovenians, Maltese,
        Bulgarians, Rumanians at Brussels I
        - Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians at Brussels II
        - Slovaks at Brussels III
        - Cypriots to be integrated into the Greek section at Brussels III
        7. Without prejudice to the other factors mentioned in this document, in
cases where a new enrolment is sought in Brussels II or Brussels III in a
language section which is present in both schools the two directors may decide
jointly in which of the two schools the pupil will be enrolled.
In principle, pupils without their own language section shall be enrolled in
one of the vehicular language sections.
The enrolment procedure in the schools will take place between Monday 6 March
        and Friday 31 March.
