by Daniel Rosseel, Resident Choreographer

Program I: The International Exchange
Miami, Florida – Artistic Directors David Palmer and Yanis
Pikieris announce line-up for Maximum Dance Company’s Program I: The
International Exchange. Maximum’s award winning dancers will open the season
with a U.S. Premiere and a World Premiere at the Olympia Theater at Gusman
Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown Miami and at Bailey Concert Hall
in Fort Lauderdale.
The program opens at Bailey Concert Hall with two shows on
October 4th (3pm & 8pm) with performances at Gusman on the following weekend
of October 17th & 18th (both at 8pm.) Program 1, titled The International
Exchange, will feature the U.S. premiere of Cutting Corners choreography by
Daniel Rosseel, Resident Choreographer of the Royal Ballet of Flanders in
Belgium. Maximum Dance Company welcomes two guest artists, Sara Weisz and
Andras Szego from the Hungarian National Ballet to compliment its core troupe
of principal-caliber dancers from seven nations across the globe. The
program also features the World Premiere of Mephisto, created by Founding
Artistic Director Yanis Pikieris set to music of Polish composer Wojciech
Kilar. The evening will conclude with a revised one-act version of the
dynamic and exciting Spectrum, originally a full-evening ballet to the music
of Pink Floyd and the London Philharmonic.
In addition to its subscription performances, Maximum Dance Company will be
busy with numerous performances worldwide. Maximum will perform An
Afternoon of Dance on September 21st, 2003 (at 3pm) at Temple Emmanuel as
part of our community outreach program. The company will also be appearing
as part of the third annual Dance for Life performance on November 2nd, 2003
at Gusman Downtown. Maximum is also honored to be performing in May 2003 in
Ecuador and also tour June 2004 will tour three major cities in Hungary.
Other local appearances for Maximum Dance will be in Sarasota, Orlando, and
Delray Beach. Also scheduled are free presentations of its acclaimed
children’s ballet, Carnival of the Animals at Bailey
Concert Hall and Miami-Dade County Auditorium in May 2004 for the school
children
of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. These performances feature a cast of
Maximum’s professional dancers with fifty student dancers from both Miami-
Dade and Broward Counties ranging in age from 8-17 years old.
