Kia Favors Slovakia as EU Base
By Seo Jee-yeon
Staff Reporter
Kia Motors, the sister company of Hyundai Motor Company, is likely to choose
Zilina in Slovakia as the site for its East Eastern production base, sources
familiar with the investment project said on Monday.
The sources added that Slovakia was competitive in labor costs over
neighboring countries and it is located close to big markets in Western
Europe.
``We reported to top management that Slovakia received the highest score in
the evaluation at the working-group level compared with the other three
competitors of the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary,’’ a high-ranking Kia
official said.
``The management will decide a final destination for our East European base
and make a formal announcement soon,’’ he said.
However, he did not ruled out the possibility that top management will ignore
the working-level report and go for the second best candidate Poland, which
offers an attractive incentives package, including the construction of a
Korean language school.
The upcoming East European plant of Kia Motors will be built at a cost of
about $1.5 billion for facilities with an annual production capacity of 0.3
million cars, starting production in 2006.

wątpie, ż ebędzie to jutro!
