the new Blur guitarist

Callin' All,
rumour as I've heard from these shores of the UK is that Skin, the ex guitar
player from those Liverpudlians Cast, is tipped to be the one to fill the
mighty shoes of the maestro Graham Coxon.

I'm afraid that you might be right, Madee. Cast is rather a kind of "worker",
not an artist like Graham.

I think the guy from Cast may be good enough to perform live with Blur, as to
his songwriting abilities, I'm not so sure. For me Graham Coxon was a mixture
of George Harrison and Paul McCartney's importance to The Beatboys and is maybe
best to be replaced by someone not trying to copy him, but bringing something
new to the band, see Richard Oakes replacing Bernhard Butler in Suede, or that
guy who used to play in Simply Red(!!!) Aziz replacing the coke fiend Squire in
the Stone Roses, imitating is flattery for the replaced band member, but don't
we all to some degree imitate these musicians when singing along to the songs
or how we dress to go watch them live, a band such as Blur in it's progressive
inventing songwriting history needs something new, not something old, they have
a future only in that. The pensioners Oasis on the other hand could bring in a
goat to still churn out there sound and no one would care cause we know they
haven't got any plans to move on from their debut single.
The future is bright, the future is a Blur..

How certain are those rumours anyway? Cause we keep hearing how this might be
the end of Blur, and after the single 'Don't bomb when you're the bomb' (or
something else about bombs) it seems very probable...

And I heard this weekend that Alex James wants to work with Sophie Ellis
Bextor... Bastard.

are you sure you never read that Alex didn't just say he wants to work ON
Sophie? sounds more the truth. He's worked with a fair few other singers over
the last couple of years, not really doing much beyond album track credits, so
it wouldn't suprise me to see him popping up on some tv shows beside her.

I don't think they'll split, word is they really wnt to tour this album, so
they'll make the year out, if only for the £ and I think it opens the
debate of should a band change their name if they lose such a key member of the
band/image?

His name is Heitor T. Pereira. I like his sound in "Enough" - the best song of
Simply Red ever recorded.

Callin' Teddy4,
the guy who took over from the snow sneezing Squire in the Stone Roses did used
to be a guitarist in Simply Red, the family friendly band, who before they were
signed released a demo version of Holding Back The Years with a picture of a
guy on the front, sat on a toilet with a gun in his mouth, it could only go
downhill from there!

Marbled's right - it's always the begining of the end for a band when a
founding member leaves. Especially when he's also a songwritter. It was clear
that Daman and Graham were taking different roads the momemt you heard their
side projects - Gorrilaz and Graham solo LPs. Totally diffrent stuff, genre and
all. Besides, Graham is probably going mad. I saw his inteview for MTV2 the
other day and he was so uncommunicative that it was impossible to watch it.

the man Coxon was Blur for me, as a guitarist, I just wanted to be him, him and
the man Johnny Marr were the beginning and end for guitar players as far as I'm
concerned. In so far as The Smiths and Blur having terrific front men, it could
be argued that the only reason they work is because they're given the space by
the confidence that their guitarists are doing them justice ALL the time. But
what Marr lacked and Coxon had a superb ability at, was creating almost another
song in such melodic backing vocals...irreplacable, but hopefully not the end
for Damon, Alex and Dave.

Callin' All,
looks like it's been confirmed ex-Verve guitar man Simon Tong is the man trying
to fill the giant gap in Blur left by Mr Coxon. I don't know if he's any good
or not, Verve were always said to be a great guitar band, but that was because
of Nick McCabe, was Simon just as good? Time will tell.
