What more do you want ?!!

07.07.03, 16:42
Woodpeckers who listen to the BANG BANG BANG beat of dance music only should
leave now, take your whistles and take the nearest exit from this post....

Still here??
cool smile
I've just come across a mindblowing, life affirming record by a band called
Mars Volta, the album is called 'Deloused In The Comatorium' and without a
question of doubt should be put higher on the priority list than cleaning
your teeth as the thing to do tonight before you sleep smile

music + inspiration = Mars Volta

Ah, just the word inspiration made the last curious woodpeckers leave smile

I'm struggling to find band names to compare them too, please listen and tell
me smile my initial choice might be Mansun, but it has more of a Jeff Buckley
range to the vocals smile)

One song to start with? ok... Inertiatic Esp

            • madee1 Re: 'Eeeeeee!

Today I've heard four tracks by Mars Volta, "Inertiatic", "Eunuch
Provocateur", "Drunkship Of Lanterns" and "This apparatus must be unearthed".
      That was enough.
The band sound like they've never touched instruments without getting
completely stoned first. The last track from my list was probably the best
(maybe because it's the shortest one), however the remaining three made me feel
      really uneasy.
It felt like the musicians have been locked in some sort of big jar with
alcohol, kept there for a week and then forced to play. The guitar player has
some problems with tuning his instrument. All of the musicians play different
tunes at the same time. The singer is screaming as if a nutcracker got stuck
up his underwear (maybe the title "Eunuch Provocateur" has its roots here), the
drummer has problems managing both hands and the general feeling is like I'm
listening to a rehearsal of a volunteer band at a psychiatric hospital.
I think Throbbing Gristle were doing it much better.
Gosh. Now I must have a drink.

er...all the best records in my collection (maybe unfortunetly, but no doubt
the reason why) have been recorded by musicians under the influence of
something smoked, snorted or swallowed (alcohol inclusive) and without these
substances music would NEVER have progressed to 2003 like it has.

Woohoo, I want that producer to work on my album if I were to form a band smile
        (Rick Rubin by the way)

        >The guitar player has some problems with tuning his instrument. All of the

I see more vision in the tunings and band's performance than i have done in
music for a long time. It's not original music maybe, but it performed to
perfection in my opinion, each instrument bringing new levels to the songs, I
agree not to everyones taste, ...But Seriously!!! smile))

        > The singer is screaming as if a nutcracker got stuck

Passion, a strong vocal delivery, not as good as, but as soaring in many ways
as Jeff Buckley or Chris Cornell, there's no nutcrackers, just the balls to
perform from the gut of their stomach through the fire in their hearts. This
isn't spandex rock screechings, or a 'hey Mom I have a perm and a supermodel on
my crotch, I'm gonna be a star' cat wailing!

        > Gosh. Now I must have a drink.

Thinking of forming a tribute band??? smile)

Yes, but on these albums musicians were still able to play.

Ah, I remember now! He worked with Slayer and Mel C from the Spice Girls.

          > each instrument bringing new levels to the songs

In some respect this is very true. Especially that each of them plays a
different song at the same time.

That shouldn't be a great challenge, I guess...

P.S. Are there any titles by this band you'd particularly recommend to me? Give
me 4 or 5 titles, omitting the ones I've already mentioned, please...

I agree, Rod Stewart really should retire.
