"When Vålerenga IF met SFK Lyn in a Norwegian league match billed as 'The
Battle of Oslo' on 26 October, it seemed inevitable that there would be
casualties. However, the only man left feeling shellshocked at the Ullevål
stadium was referee Terje Hauge after Vålerenga coach Kjetil Rekdal
accidentally hammered a football at the unfortunate official. The former
Norwegian international, famous for scoring a thundering drive against
England at Wembley in October 1992, was left fuming as his side lost the game
1-0 and lashed out at a nearby football at the final whistle only to see it
fly directly at Hauge. "I was only trying to send the ball over to the
referee, but I kicked it a bit harder than I had intended," Rekdal said. "So
I went right over to him and told him I didn't do it on purpose." The result,
coupled with a defeat in their final league game against SK Brann, has forced
Vålerenga to play a promotion/relegation play-off. The referee in that game
would be well advised to wear a crash helmet if Rekdal's side lose."
I jeszcze smieszniejsza historyjka:
"DoDuring his stints at Valencia CF and Internazionale FC, Argentinian coach
Héctor Cúper had an effective way of making sure his players entered each
match in a confident and determined mood. Cúper would wait for the team at
the end of the tunnel and as they ran out on to the pitch, would strike each
one with a heavy pat across the chest as if to say, "Come on lads!". Carlos
Griguol, recently-appointed chief at Argentinian club CA Gimnasia y Esgrima
de la Plata employs a similar method to Cúper's, but goes one step further.
As his troops make their entrance on to the field, Griguol gives them a sharp
slap in the face. This, he reasons, is the best way to make sure that his men
are geed up, alert and ready for the ensuing encounter - while waking up all
those that might not be. The technique - whose side-effects, according to
medical studies, include turning one half of the face a bright red colour -
are having mixed results: the team has only managed two wins since the season
began. It is not known, however, just how Griguol greets his team back in the
dressing room when they lose."
