Marciniak is an experienced sapper in the demining platoon in Engineering Group Charlie. On Aug. 10, 2013, while on a routine patrol with the Afghan National Army, he risked his own life to save an Afghan child. Pfc. Marciniak saw an Afghan boy standing on the side of the road, paralyzed be fear and unable to move, during a complex attack with heavy machine gun fire from enemy positions. Pfc. Marciniak immediately rushed to the child and moved him to a safe location without regard for his own safety, saving the child's life. In Poland, Pfc.
