Juz w 1991 pisalo sie, ze Syria zakupila w Rosji iles tam T-80 (nawet 800).
Czy ktos sie orientuje ktorej wersji sa te wozy? Czy byly pozniej
modernizowane i czy byly dokonane pozniejsze zakupu nowoczesniejszych wersji?

Hm, pierwsze słyszę.

In 2002, the Syrian army has roughly 215,000 soldiers. The generall readiness
and effectiveness of the Syrian Army is fairly low despite the generally good
readiness of its special forces, roughly two armored divisions, one mechanized
division and the Republican Guard division. Syria has a significant quantity of
armor numbering some 4,700 tanks, though 1,200 are placed in static defensive
positions and another 2,000 are T-55s and T-62s. Syria does however have some
1,700 T-72/72Ms.

During the gulf War the Syrian Forces participated with a minor role but it
provided the Army an excellent lesson on modern battlefield. The most important
lesson was that the Army needed to gain defence capability against the Israeli
Air Force. With the help of North Korea and Iran Syria started with the
development and the production of a new type of the SCUD missile, the SCUD-D
with a range of 700km which can carry a biological or chemical warhead.
Furthermore the Army has about 1000 SCUD-C (range 500km), 90 ancient Frog-7
(range 70km) and about 200 SS-21(range 120km). Recently Syria bought for 2
billion dollars T-80 battle tanks and modern Su-27 fighters from Russia.

Co to za źródło?
Przyznam się szczerze, iż w nigdy nie zetknołem się z taką informacją w tzw.
dobrze poinformowanych opracowaniach (The Military Balance, Jane's Defence
Weeklyi inne wydawnictwa tej grupy). Może mieli taki zamiar ale po rozpadzie
ZSRR Rosja straciła ochotę na dofinanoswanie takich transakcji, Syria ma
przecież około 14 mld długu za dostawy broni.

Chyba jakaś legenda

Nie przypominam sobie, żeby np. u Suworowa w nTW o tym było, w innych źródłach
też nie znalazłem. Za co zresztą oni mają kupować, za ducha socjalizmu
arabskiego?
To samo z lotnictwem, ostatnie poważne dostawy to MiGi-29 i Su-24 sprzed 10 lat.
Może dopiero w obecnie realizowanych transakcjach, ale tu chyba chodzi raczej o
T-90.
