WASHINGTON (April 6) - Eighty-seven US Senators and 186 congressmen have
appealed to US President George W. Bush to reevaluate US relations with the PLO
and the Palestinian Authority, given the Palestinians' decision "to embark on a
deliberate campaign of violence against Israelis."

The Senate letter, initiated by Sam Brownback (Kansas) and Joseph Biden
(Delaware), and the House version organized by Chairman of the House
International Relations Committee Henry Hyde (Illinois) and the ranking
Democrat on the committee, Tom Lantos (California), were due to be sent to Bush
yesterday.

"Given the drastic changes that have taken place in recent months in
Palestinian behavior, we believe it is time for the United States to reassess
our relations with the Palestinians," the letters read.

In the strongest indictment of the Palestinians yet from Capitol Hill,
legislators asked that the administration "examine whether those Palestinians
involved in attacks against Israelis should be barred from coming to the United
States, whether those Palestinian groups involved in violence should be
designated as foreign terrorist organizations... whether the PLO office in
Washington should be allowed to remain open, and whether US aid to the
Palestinians is in fact meeting its goals and should continue."

The signatories urged Bush to downgrade US relations with the PA if PA Chairman
Yasser Arafat does not issue a call to end violence.

"From our perspective it is time for the United States to require that the
leadership of the Palestinians speak and act against the continuing violence
and terrorism, or face a significant change in our relationship with them," the
letters read.

PLO representative in Washington Hassan Abdel Rahman called the
letters "counterproductive" and said the signatories and advocates of the
reassessment in relations "don't have the interests of peace in mind."

"It only confirms the lack of objectivity of members of Congress who signed
this letter and their lack of concern for the principles of fairness and
justice," Abdel Rahman said, adding,"Eventually, this will make it difficult
for the United States to play a positive role that is expected from the sponsor
of the peace process."

House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (Missouri) signed the House letter but
told reporters yesterday it was important to keep up a dialogue with the
Palestinians and with others in the region.

"It was a very frustrating set of negotiations that went on a few months ago
that resulted in nothing happening, but we can't just walk away from it because
we didn't succeed," Gephardt said. "We have to deal with the new president and
prime minister of Israel. We have to deal with the leadership on the
Palestinian side. We have to deal with Egypt and Jordan and our other allies in
the region, and try to start this thing over again."

On Wednesday, King Abdullah II of Jordan, currently in Washington for meetings
with US officials, telephoned Arafat and urged him to keep up the security
cooperation meetings with Israel. Abdullah is expected to ask Bush in their
meeting next Tuesday to consider inviting Arafat to Washington.

So far, the administration has held back an invitation for Arafat, and
administration officials say privately not to expect one until the Palestinian
leader issues a public call to end violence and until security cooperation
between Israel and the Palestinians is resumed.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who came to Washington this week seeking a
free trade agreement with the US and deeper US involvement in the peace
process, wrapped up his visit on Wednesday with little more than assurances
from Bush that the US would remain deeply engaged.

Throughout the past few days, Egyptian and US officials discussed the violence
between Israel and the Palestinians and consulted on Egyptian-US bilateral
affairs.

One particularly frank exchange took place between outgoing Egyptian Foreign
Minister Amr Moussa and National Security Adviser Condolleezza Rice.

In their meeting, Rice asserted that the Palestinians were perpetuating the
violence, while Moussa staunchly insisted that both sides are to blame. An
Egyptian official described the conversation as a "frank exchange of views."

mężczyzn, kobiet i dzieci bezpośrednio po
przywiezieniu kierowano na śmierć w komorach gazowych
Birkenau.
Pod koniec wojny esesmani, usiłując zatrzeć ślady
swych zbrodni, rozpoczęli demontaż i niszczenie komór
gazowych i krematoriów oraz innych obiektów a także
palenie dokumentów.
Więźniów zdolnych do marszu ewakuowano w głąb Rzeszy.
Tych, którzy pozostali w obozie oswobodzili żołnierze
Armii Czerwonej w dniu 27 stycznia 1945 roku.

Foreword


There has been nothing written on this subject during the past 200 years to
compare with what you are about to read. In fact, we of WESTERN FRONT doubt
that anything ever written can compare with the contents contained herein
because this is the only work which has revealed the result from the
application of the principle of material interests. The author says: "The
Jewish people have, in all probability, been the first ones to discover that
secret power—the principle of material interests."

Every non-Jew must read this book from cover-to-cover because only then will
the non-Jew discover how 'The Principle of Material Interests' enslaves the
people by financial oppression. It illustrates that Jewish solidarity is so
great that, if you attack one Jew in any particular place, all the Jews of the
five continents arise as one man.

Original copies of this book entered in the Library of Congress at Washington,
D.C., in the New York, Chicago and other large city libraries have been removed
and never returned. The reason is obvious!

We, of WESTERN FRONT are determined to break the stranglehold the Jews have on
the masses because the people of the world cannot survive with such parasites
in its society. We declare—'As Christians united we will be victorious!'


Preliminary Remarks


In obedience to an unchangeable law of nature, men strive to ameliorate their
own condition at the expense of others.

From this fact originated the many jealous contests and wars wherein men seek
to excel each other.

The manner in which these wars and contests are conducted is determined by
principles that differ from each other according to the geographical position,
the social and political condition, and the spirit peculiar to the contesting
people. These principles that thus form the basis of the work of conquest are
of three kinds:

1. The Principle of Physical Force
2. The Theocratic Principle, whereby the masses are subjected to a religious
faith.
3. The Principle of Material Interests, which enslaves people by financial
oppression.

The first two kinds of principles we assume to be well-known, for the history
of Rome and Greece in ancient times, as well as the history of the Papacy and
of Russia and Germany in modern times, is simply the illustration of the
application of those principles.

They are the causes that give rise to those Powers and founded their
predominance by physical and moral means.

But the conquests of the third category, that is, those which result from the
application of the principle of material intersts, show us a peculiar and
altogether novel phenomenon.

In this case material interests take the place of physical force, or religious
faith, and become the basis as well as the moving springs of the work of
conquest. But the principle of material interests is in itself much more
powerful than the other principles, as matters are arranged in this world now,
no one being able to escape from its power. For a principle, which is based on
the necessity of existence, on the element of life, is a universal principle to
which we are all subject at present. Our material interests form a central
point toward which all human inclinations and desires tend; and hence their
possession is equivalent to universal dominion.

A conquest founded on the principle of material interests is not a victory of
strength over weakness, nor a victory of knowledge over ignorance, but a
victory of cunning over confidence and carelessness. Its endeavor is to obtain
control of all the means of existence, and absorb all the wealth of nations;
thereby subjecting them, in the end, to the arbitrary rule of the conqueror.

It is our purpose in this essay to explain the mode and manner of this
conquest, and to expose clearly and strikingly the rise of the Jewish power,
and its wonderful development in our days.

The Jewish people has, in all probability, been the first one to discover that
secret power—the principle of material interests.

At any rate, this people is the only one which has understood how to utilize
that principle as a means of conquest. If we examine history closely, we are
struck by the fact that the Jews have, from the earliest times, used this
principle as a weapon wherewith to fight other people, and as a basis for the
erection of their religious, social and political structure.

An attentive study of Jewish history enables us to become acquainted with the
spirit and character of the Jewish people, and properly to appreciate its
endeavors and purposes. Unfortunately, in following this study we are left
exclusively to the documents and reports which the Jews themselves have seen
fit to transmit to us. If the Philistines, the Pharaohs and the other opponents
of the Jews had left us historical memorials, the history of the "chosen
people" would sound quite differently from what we read it today.

But a philosophical analysis of the Old Testament will, after all, be amply
sufficient to give us a correct estimation of the achievements of the Jewish
people.


The Origin of the Jews


The Jews were, at one time, an Arab tribe, living like the other Arab tribes,
upon plunder and the productions of their herds. The Old Testament makes no
statements from which we might gather the descent of the Jews from the Arabs.
Arabic tradition, however, and especially the Koran, fixes the fact that
Abraham (Ibraham-Allehi-Selam), an Arab patriarch, lived with his tribe and his
herds in Arabia (Hiddjaz) and laid the foundation of the holy Raaba (Kiabeh),
the temple in Mecca, which has, at all times, been the seat of monotheistic
worship, and where, to this day, prayers are offered up to the God of Abraham,
Ismael and Mohammed.

We do not know the circumstances which induced Abraham to leave Arabia with his
tribe, but it was doubtless a desire to improve their condition which led them
to emigrate. This assumption is all the more justified, as the same desire has,
at all times, impelled the nomadic populations to invade the lands adjoining
the Arabian peninsula.


Characteristics of the Jews


The Arabs are endowed by nature with an unusual degree of mental faculties,
which throw those of all other races in the shade. The faculties which are thus
peculiar to the Arabs are "a strength of mind which is not deterred by any
mystery or any distance; a ready and immediate comprehension of a plan, a fiery
and energetic mode of acting, and finally an unparalleled cunning and
craftiness."

These faculties, which belong to the Arabs in general, were necessarily also
inherent in the Jews, but together with these they posess certain other special
qualities, which give them additional advantages. Thus the Arab is quick at the
start, but lacks toughness and perseverance; whereas the Jew combines with a
fiery temperament an obstinacy so inflexible that it may well be said: the Jew
never gives way, and knows neither forgiving nor forgetting.

Another distinction which may be observed in the character of these two
children of the desert is this, that the Arabs incline more to the ideal and
abstract, while the Jews are essentially material and practical. From this
divergence of character it results that while the Arab experiences a platonic
and spiritual reverence for the beautiful, the Jew sees in it only the useful.
A Jew may well stop to admire a flower, or any other object; but at the same
moment he will be asking himself: How much can I make out of it?

Rapacity is a passion which has become the Jew's second nature, and to which he
instinctively lends obedience. The lust of gain is so strongly rooted

national and ecclesiastical duty.

So, the Jews merited cursed Edomite temporal subjection forever when they
killed Christ; it is the will of God that they be forever subjugated for
murdering His Son; that is the sentence that He has passed upon them. That
being so, as God has decreed that they be forever subjugated for their crime,
it is morally right and just that they be subjugated by the nations in
punishment: that is a matter of divinely ordained duty. The same moral
principle, that God has employed with the Jews, is recognised also in society:
criminals are, for crimes of sufficient gravity, deprived of liberty,
imprisoned, even subjugated to extraordinary temporal control or hard labour,
as just punishment: and if this is true for petty criminals, how much more for
the murderers of God? They have forfeited their rights. They are slaves.

We may see a parallel with the original sin: we have all inherited Adam's
guilt, and have therefore been exposed to this, our place of exile, the valley
of struggle and death, as punishment, as well as to eternal damnation unless we
are saved; similarly the Jews have inherited the guilt of their fathers, and as
a punishment are to be exposed to their subjugated exile: and whereas God
effected the original exile with the obedient assistance of the angels, and
of "the flaming sword that turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of
life" (Genesis 3:24), even so, He sets the evangelical Church and its
temporal "sword", the nations, to face the Jew in all directions, wherever he
may flee, to ensure that he be everywhere and forever subjugated in this, his
deicidal exile, and kept from assaulting the tree of life, even the vivifying
Church and her civilization. The Church, of course, recognises the moral duty
to subjugate the Jews:

Pope Innocent III: "Crucifiers of Christ ought to be held in continual
subjection." (Epistle to the Hierarchy of France)

Pope Innocent III: "It is fitting for Jews to serve Christians, but not for
Christians to serve Jews. On the contrary, the Jews, as servants rejected by
that Saviour Whose death they wickedly contrived, should recognize themselves
in fact and in creed the servants of those whom the death of Christ has set
free, even as it has rendered them bondmen." ("Etsi Judaeos," a Decretal cited
by Pope Benedict XIV)

He says that the Jews should recognise themselves to be "in fact and in creed"
subject to Christians. It is, "in creed" that they should be subjugated: that
is to say that it is a revealed doctrine taught by the Church and professed by
all the Faithful. And it "ought" to be "in fact" too: which is to say that the
subjugation ought to be actualised in society, so that the Jew is forced to
take his correct place as the subjugated servant. The Church and the social
institutions of the nations have the duty to ensure that the Jew is the
subjugated outcast for all time: in this manner, God uses the dutiful Church
and nations to punish him. As well as "loving" the Jews of the Christian era,
and wishing their conversion and salvation, we must also "hate" them and seek
their subjugation as God wishes; as Saint John Chrysostom, Patriarch of
Constantinople and one of the four great eastern Doctors of the Church said:

"The Jews are the most worthless of all men. They are perfidious murderers of
Christ. They worship the devil; their religion is sickness. The Jews are the
odious assassins of Christ and for killing God there is no expiation possible,
no indulgence or pardon. Christians may never cease vengeance, and the Jew must
live in servitude forever. God always hated the Jews. It is incumbent upon all
Christians to hate the Jews." ("The Point, 1958, Father Leonard Feeney, SJ",
Christian Defence League, 1993, Arabi, LA)

"Will not I hate those who have hated Thee, O Lord? And will I not pine away
over Thine enemies? With a perfect hatred I will hate them, and they are become
enemies to me!" (Psalm 138:21-22)

The dutiful Church has historically done so; she looks to the state, her civil
arm and temporal sword, to enact the subjugation of the Jews:

Pope Gregory IX (A. D. 1241): "They ought to know the yoke of perpetual
enslavement because of their guilt. See to it that the perfidious Jews never in
the future become insolent, but that they always suffer publicly the shame of
their sin in servile fear." (Epistle to the Hierarchy of Germany)

He instructed the hierarchy to "see to it" that their merited slavery, their
temporal subjection, is for all time publicly actualised; such is a godly,
moral social order. Thus the Church and state have historically cooperated to
dutifully effect the desired temporal subjugation that the Jews deserve for
their guilt of deicide. The state has the duty to enact the Church's ordinance:
and in a correctly ordered society, the Church issues directives as to the form
their subjugation should take, and censures any disobedient civil servants:

Third Lateran Council (A. D. 1179): "We declare that the evidence of Christians
is to be accepted against Jews in every case, since Jews employ their own
witnesses against Christians - and that those who prefer Jews to Christians in
this matter are to lie under anathema, since Jews ought to be slaves to
Christians and to be supported by them on the grounds of humanity alone."
(Canon 26)

We have seen that the Jew merited also to ever be an outcast as part of his
subjugation: he is in his fourth and permanent exile in slavery. The dutiful
Church has ever sought to enact that he is ever segregated. She has ever
forbidden her faithful to mix with the Jew:

Council of Elvira (A. D. 300): "Indeed, if anyone of the clergy or faithful has
taken a meal with the Jews, it is determined that, as a corrective punishment,
he is to abstain from Communion so that he may be reformed." (Canon 50)

Council of Quinisext (A. D. 692): "Let no one in the priestly order nor any
layman eat the unleavened bread of the Jews, nor have any familiar doings with
them, nor summon the

Dariusz Ratajczak Polish Professor

Polish Professor [Dariusz Ratajczak] Fired for Dissident History Book

A Polish history professor has been fired by his university and banned from
teaching elsewhere for publishing a book suggesting that wartime Germany did
not have an overall plan or policy to exterminate Europe's Jews. The state-run
University of Opole announced in early April 2000 that Dariusz Ratajczak, 37,
had violated ethical standards and would be banned from teaching at other
universities for three years.

Ratajczak, who is popular with students, was suspended in April 1999 from his
teaching post with the university's Historical Institute after state
prosecutors opened an investigation into the publication of his book Tematy
niebezpieczne ("Dangerous Themes"). With a child to support, his financial
situation is precarious. (See: "Polish Professor Under Fire for 'Holocaust
Denial'," May-June 1999 Journal, p. 31.)

In December 1999 a court in Opole (Silesia) found Ratajczak guilty of spreading
revisionist views on the Holocaust, but the court did not punish him, saying
that the book's limited distribution was not damaging enough to warrant
punishment under a Polish law that makes it a crime to publicly deny German
wartime or Communist-era crimes. The court also noted that Ratajczak had
distanced himself from revisionist views in a preface to the second edition of
the book. (See "No Punishment for Polish 'Holocaust Denier'," in the Sept.-Dec.
1999 Journal, p. 47.)

Ratajczak argued that he had merely summarized opinions of historians who hold
dissident views on the Holocaust issue, and that his own views are not in line
with all the opinions in his book. "I was only presenting various views on the
Holocaust to students," he said.

In a five-page section of his book entitled "Holocaust Revisionism," Ratajczak
matter-of-factly cited the work of such revisionists as Paul Rassinier, Robert
Faurisson, David Irving and Ernst Zündel, who contend that there was no German
plan or program to exterminate Europe's Jews. He also cited the forensic
investigations carried out at Auschwitz and Birkenau by Fred Leuchter and
Germar Rudolf, and their conclusions that, for technical reasons, well-known
claims of killing millions of Jews in gas chambers are impossible.

While Ratajczak did not explicitly endorse these views, he did call
Holocaust "eyewitness" testimony "useless," and described establishment
Holocaust writers as "followers of a religion of the Holocaust" who impose on
others "a false image of the past." He also argued that three million Jews died
in "the Holocaust," not the often-claimed six million.

Ratajczak published 320 copies of the book in March 1999 at his own expense.
Only a few were sold at the university bookstore or directly to students, or
were given away to friends, before police seized the remaining copies. In
September 1999 he financed a second edition of 30,000 copies, which were
offered in kiosks and by mail order across Poland. The publisher, a small firm
in Warsaw, reportedly censored the most "extreme" statements, placing them in
notes at the book's end. A few thousand copies have been sold, Ratajczak

Ze wszystkich kryzysów polityczno-społecznych w dziejach PRL "wydarzenia
marcowe" są chyba najbardziej złożone i do dziś wywołują rzeczne oceny. Część
osób uważa, że przypisuje im się nadmierną rolę, wynikającą stąd, że były w nie
zaangażowane środowiska dziennikarskie, artystyczne i naukowe, jest więc wiele
spisanych relacji i wspomnień, co przyczyniło się do nagłośnienia tego właśnie
zakrętu historii. Równocześnie można się spotkać z poglądem, że o wydarzeniach
tych mówi się tak dużo dlatego, że ich ofiarami były najczęściej osoby
żydowskiego pochodzenia (w podtekście sugeruje się istnienie jakiegoś
żydowskiego lobby).

Można się też spotkać z poglądem przeciwnym, w myśl którego Marzec 1968 był tym
kryzysowym momentem, którego roli się nie docenia z tego względu, że główną
siłą kontestującą byli wówczas studenci i inteligencja, a nie - jak w Poznaniu
w 1956 r. czy na Wybrzeżu w 1970 r. - robotnicy, przez lata uważani za klasę
przodującą. Pomniejszaniu znaczenia wydarzeń 1968 r. mógł też sprzyjać fakt, że
nie doszło wówczas do zmiany na najwyższych szczeblach władzy, jak w latach
1956 (choć nie od razu po buncie w Poznaniu), 1970 i 1980.

Wydaje się, że obecnie na to zjawisko potrafimy już patrzeć w sposób mniej
emocjonalny, a zarazem bardziej wyważony. Spowodowane jest to z jednej strony
dystansem czasowym, z drugiej zaś postępem badań historycznych. Zaczęto też
wreszcie patrzeć na te wydarzenia w sposób kompleksowy, dostrzegając różne ich
wątki, niekoniecznie ze sobą powiązane, a czasem wręcz wykluczające się i
przeciwstawne.

Pojęcie Marzec 1968 określa bowiem kilka nurtów. Akcentowanie poszczególnych z
nich w znacznym stopniu było, a często i jest uzależnione od własnych
doświadczeń osób wypowiadających się na temat wydarzeń tamtych lat. Ludzie,
którzy byli wówczas na studiach, wydobywają przede wszystkim studencki
wątek "wydarzeń marcowych": strajki w szkołach wyższych, wiece, manifestacje
uliczne, postulaty i rezolucje przyjmowane przez młodzież akademicką. Z kolei w
pamięci przedstawicieli środowisk naukowych, literackich i artystycznych
wydarzenia 1968 r. zapisały się przede wszystkim antyinteligencką nagonką w
środkach masowego przekazu oraz represjami wobec intelektualistów. Ludziom tym
zwykle kojarzą się one głównie z dość wówczas rozpowszechnionym zjawiskiem
zastępowania uznanych autorytetów przez rozmaite "miernoty z awansu".
Najszerszy zasięg akcja ta przybrała w świecie nauki. To właśnie w 1968 r.
pojawili się tzw. docenci marcowi, to znaczy mianowani samodzielni pracownicy
naukowi, którzy brak habi1ita~i nadrabiali polityczną gorliwością i serwilizmem
wobec władzy.

Trudno się też dziwić, że ludziom, którzy wyjeżdżali wtedy z Polski, najmniej
utkwiła w pamięci antysemicka kampania w środkach masowego przekazu, nieudolnie
skrywana pod hasłami antysyjonistycznymi. Wiele " tych osób miało za sobą
przeszłość komunistyczną i antysemityzm był im obcy. Poza tym w tradycji
komunistycznej nie było miejsca na nacjonalizm, skoro jedną z cech komunizmu
był internacjonalizm. Tym większe więc zdumienie wywołała ta fala półurzędowego
antysemityzmu. Niemało osób dopatrywało się w tym podobieństw z faszyzmem.

Pamiętać wszakże trzeba, że tym widocznym nurtom Marca towarzyszyły działania
skryte przed oczyma ogółu. Była o skomplikowana polityczna walka o władzę,
prowadzona przez grupę działaczy partyjnych i państwowych skupionych wokół
ministra spraw wewnętrznych gen. Mieczysława Moczara. Ze względu na wojenną
przeszłość Moczara i jego najbliższego współpracownika gen. Grzegorza
Korczyńskiego grupę tę przezwano "partyzantami". Oficjalnie głosili oni
lojalność wobec Gomułki, faktycznie jednak - jak się wydaje - przynajmniej od
połowy lat sześćdziesiątych systematycznie podkopywali jego pozycję. Za pomocą
zręcznie prowadzonej polityki paszportowej (choć nie tylko) Moczar zyskał wielu
sympatyków i stronników w środowiskach opiniotwórch: wśród pisarzy,
dziennikarzy, naukowców, ludzi kultury i sztuki. Podobnie jak
wcześniej "puławian" i "natolińczyków", tak i "partyzantów" trudno byłoby
wszakże uznać za grupę wyraźnie sformalizowaną. ło to raczej grono przyjaciół i
znajomych skupione wokół Moczara, który był ich niekwestionowanym liderem.

"Partyzantów" przedstawiano (a może sami się przedstawiali) jako
rodowych komunistów. Na swoistą ideologię tej grupy składały się nacjonalizm
skłaniający się w stronę szowinizmu, antysemityzm, silny syndrom autorytarny,
antyinteligenckość oraz pewien kult siły i dynamizmu ."Partyzanci" dość długo i
raczej udanie kryli się ze swymi oczywistymi celami i dążeniami. Moczar miał
też rozmaitych taktycznych sojuszników i partnerów. Jednym z nich był I
sekretarz Komitetu Wojewódzkiego PZPR w Katowicach Edward Gierek, innym
przewodnicy Stowarzyszenia PAX Bolesław Piasecki. Oni też mieli własne cele
polityczne, ale doraźnie byli skłonni popierać Moczara. Gdy jednak w 1968 r.
przystąpił on do ataku, którego cel nie jest zresztą do końca znany (nie można
z całą pewnością powiedzieć, czy było nim wówczas obalenie Gomułki i zajęcie
jego miejsca, czy Moczar dążył tylko do podważenia jego pozycji i sam chciał
zdobyć pozycję "szarej eminencji" systemu i być pierwszym po 1 sekretarzu),
niektórzy jego stronnicy i sojusznicy (zwlaszcza Gierek) opowiedzieli się
jednoznacznie po stronie Gomułki. Do wybuchu głębokiego kryzysu polityczno-
społecznego doszło w określonej sytuacji wewnętrznej Polski. Już od początku
lat sześćdziesiątych można było zaobserwować negatywne zjawiska społeczno-
ekonomiczne. Przede wszystkim po 1960 r. nastąpiło wyraźne zahamowanie tempa
wzrostu stopy życiowej, która w drugiej połowie lat pięćdziesiątych rosła w
sposób wyraźnie odczuwalny. Tymczasem w latach sześćdziesiątych wzrost płac
realnych kształtował się na poziomie wręcz symbolicznym praktycznie
nieodczuwalnym. Wśród stosunkowo znacznej części inteligencji frustrację
budziło systematyczne odchodzenie od dość liberalnej polityki z okresu
Października. Z kolei młodzież szczególnie akademicka - często nie widziała dla
siebie przyszłości w Polsce pogrążającej się "malej stabilizacji". Ideologia
komunistyczna w znacznym stopniu zużyła się już w poprzednich łatach i
nierzadko brakowało teraz motywacji do działania. Równocześnie pewne otwarcie
popaździernikowej Polski na świat spowodowało, że znacznie wzrosły aspiracje
młodego pokolenia, które w coraz mniejszym stopniu było w stanie zaspokajać
gomułkowskie kierownictwo partyjno-państwowe.

Od połowy lat sześćdziesiątych zaczęły się mnożyć konflikty władzy ze znacznymi
odłamami inteligencji. W 1964 r. nastąpił pierwszy zbiorowy protest 34
wybitnych pisarzy i naukowców, którzy w liście do premiera w bardzo oględnej
formie wyrażali zaniepokojenie przyszłością słowa drukowanego w Polsce. List 34
wzbudził gniew kierownictwa partyjnego, a na sygnatariuszy ściągnął mniej czy
bardziej dokuczliwe szykany (m.in. zakaz publikacji w prasie, wstrzymanie druku
książek). To z kolei wywołało na Zachodzie falę protestów i gestów solidarności
z polskimi intelektualistami. Wkrótce zresztą władze PRL sięgnęły po bardziej
drastyczne środki, urządzając w połowie lat sześćdziesiątych kilka procesów
politycznych, w których oskarżonymi byli ludzie ze świata kultury i nauki.
Najgłośniejsza była sprawa Jacka Kuronia i Karola Modzelewskiego, skazanych na
3 i 3,5 roku więzienia za sporządzenie "Listu otwartego do Partii", w którym
m.in. wykazywali, że gospodarka PRL znajduje się w stadium permanentnego
kryzysu. Do szerzej znanych należały też procesy Melchiora Wańkowicza i Jana
Nepomucena Millera. Ponadto przygotowywano procesy Stanisława Mackiewicza i

Polacker får svar om spioneriet när arkiven öppnas

Bakom trista fasader i centrala Warszawa tickar en tidsinställd bomb,
den gamla kommunistiska säkerhetspolisen arkiv med hundratusentals
dokument som vittnar om decennier av förtryck, angiveri och en
permanent övervakning av oppositionella.
Sammanlagt rör det sig om 96 dammiga hyllkilometer som nu öppnas för
den polska allmänheten. Inom loppet av tre veckor har redan 15 000
personer ansökt om att få se sina handlingar. Många av dem för att få
reda på om grannar, vänner eller arbetskamrater har spionerat på dem.
- Naturligtvis kommer det att utspelas tragedier när de första fallen
av angiveri och svek dyker upp, säger Pawel Machcewicz, historiker och
direktör vid det så kallade Institutet för nationell åminnelse, IPN,
som både förvaltar arkiven och som har en egen åklagarenhet med uppgift
att utreda brott under kommunismen.

Trots detta tror många att det för Polen inte finns någon annan väg att
gå. Hur mycket det än smärtar, säger många, är öppenhet det enda som
kan förhindra att giftet från kommunismen fortsätter att verka.
- Förr eller senare måste Polen göra upp med sitt förflutna. Sanningen
måste fram i dagsljuset om vi ska kunna blicka framåt, tror även Pawel
Machcewicz som tidigare var forskare vid den polska vetenskapsakademin.

Hur plågsam denna process riskerar att bli visar det östtyska exemplet
som enligt kritiker ledde till en häxjakt. Efter murens fall öppnade
tyskarna 1991 de så kallade Stasiarkiven. Ut vällde en flod av
motbjudande spionrapporter. Kända dissidenter upptäckte att deras makar
hade lämnat upgifter till Stasi. Föräldrar hade angivits av sina barn.
Och rocksångare och andra ungdomsidoler avslöjades som kollaboratörer.

I över 40 år hade det östtyska ministeriet för statssäkerhet, MfS,
använt sig av 90 000 fast anställda och 170 000 så kallade informella
medarbetare som samlat in material om allt och alla. Det var en
gigantisk apparat som höll landet i ett järngrepp.
I dag lagras i Berlin och på 14 andra ställen i landet kartotek med 39
miljoner kort, hundratusentals ljudkassetter och filmdokument samt
väldiga mängder av magnetband från den tidens datorer - allt i allt 180
kilometer arkivutrymme.
Ingen annanstans har man gått så långt som i Tyskland när det gäller
att rensa ut kommunismen. Den offentliga sektorn och privata
arbetsgivare har låtit kontrollera nästan sex miljoner personers
förflutna.
Politiker, statstjänstemän och journalister har fått lämna sina
arbetsplatser.

I Polen vill man inte vara fullt så rigorös som i Tyskland. Inför
presidentvalet förra hösten anklagades både den legendariske
arbetarledaren Lech Walesa och den sittande presidenten Aleksander
Kwasniewski för att ha varit agenter för säkerhetspolisen.
Beskyllningarna kunde avvisas som ogrundade men mycket tyder på att
medarbetare i den gamla säkerhetsapparaten med hjälp av desinformation
hade försökt påverka valutgången.
- Vi måste vara otroligt försiktiga när vi använder oss av
säkerhetspolisens material, medger Pawel Machcewicz vid IPN och pekar
på att materialet ofta är ofullständigt och att det många gånger kan
vara svårt att avgöra hur sanningsenligt det är.

I Tjeckien där det redan 1992 skapades en så kallad lustrationslag för
att gallra ut säkerhetspolisen StB:s medarbetare rasar i dag en het
politisk debatt om effektiviteten och rättvisan i undersökningarna.
Bland annat påpekas att många som är registrerade i polisarkiven inte
varit tjallare utan i själva verket blivit förhörda av StB och av det
skälet återfinns i anteckningarna. Ett annat kritiskt argument är att
bevisbördan blivit omvänd och att Tjeckien har frångått principen om
att man ska betraktas som oskyldig tills motsatsen bevisats.
I den första fasen av de tjeckiska utredningarna fram till slutet av
1993 kontrollerades 210 000 tjecker varav 10 000 kunde identifieras som
kollaboratörer. De flesta blev avstängda från offentliga och politiska
uppdrag eller tvingas avgå från ledande befattningar i statsapparaten
och medierna.

1995 skapades det så kallade Kontoret för dokumentation och
undersökning av kommunismens brott, UDV, som sedan dess har utrett över
1 500 fall av påstådda brott och har ytterligare tusen fall kvar att
granska. Hittills har det väckts åtal i drygt 150 ärenden, bland annat
för tortyr, mord på fångar och dödsskjutningar vid gränsen. Åtalade är
även personer som anklagas för landsförräderi i samband med att
1968-upproret, den så kallade Pragvåren, slogs ned av Warszawapaktens
stridsvagnar.
Samma sak sker i dessa dagar i Slovakien där den tidigare
chefsideologen Vasil Bilak i slutet av mars ställdes inför rätta. Den
numera 83-årige Bilak anklagas för att ha legat bakom brevet till
Sovjetledningen 1968 i vilken Pragregimen bad om hjälp för att krossa
demokratirörelsen.

I förra veckan öppnades även den hatade Securitates hemliga arkiv i
Bukarest. För första gången får de uppskattningsvis två miljoner
rumäner som observerades av säkerhetspolisen tillgång till sina
handlingar. Arkiven visar att uppåt 700 000 rumäner spionerade på sina
landsmän för Securitates räkning.
En av de första som fick se sina dokument var författaren Lucia Blagas
dotter Dorli Blaga som hittills bara har hunnit plöja igenom en bråkdel
av det omfattande materialet.
- Det rör sig om hundratals sidor av anteckningar, avlyssnade
telefonsamtal och diskussioner som förts i vårt hus, sade hon.
- Det betyder att det fanns mikrofoner utplacerade överallt. Och allt
har antecknats: när vi vaknade på morgonen, när vi åt frukost och när
vi skrev. De spionerade på oss även i de mest intima situationer.

Sedan den 7 februari kan polackerna ansöka om att få se sina handlingar
som upprättats av säkerhetspolisen. Arkiven förvaltas av Institutet för
nationell åminnelse, IPN, som räknar med att de första dokumenten
kommer att kunna lämnas ut tidigast i juli.
I kopiorna kommer namnen på agenter och spioner att vara överstrukna.
Den som vill veta namnen måste lämna in en speciell ansökan. Arkiven
står öppna enbart för personer som varit förföljda under kommunismen.
Tillgång får även forskare och viss mån medierna. Handlingar som
innehåller uppgifter om agenter som i dag är verksamma kommer inte att
lämnas ut. Samma sak gäller för uppgifter som bedöms kunna skada

The Political Soldier

Broadly speaking, there are two categories of people in the White resistance
movement. The first category consists of those who consider the struggle for
White survival as a hobby, as a pastime which they pursue in their leisure
hours, if and when the mood strikes them. This is by far the larger group:
these hobbyists are as numerous as they are useless. The second category
consists of those who take the struggle seriously and who behave accordingly.
These are the Political Soldiers, and sadly their number is much smaller.
The Political Soldier may be defined more specifically: He is someone who loves
his Race and his Land more than he is concerned for his own welfare. He is
neither an intellectual snob nor a street brawler. He is intelligent and
educated enough to know what he is fighting for and brave enough to stand up
for his beliefs when push comes to shove. He is someone who practices what he
preaches, and who backs up his words with his deeds. He is definitely not
someone who is long on talk and short on action.

Political, Not Military, Struggle
We place equal stress on both the words "political" and "soldier." "Political"
needs to be emphasized because we are not now engaged in a military struggle.
Although the legal rights of pro-White activists are being increasingly eroded,
the 'age old' freedoms which our forefathers won for us are still sufficiently
intact that we may organize and operate legally and openly. Despite unjust and
illegal "anti-hate" legislation and harassment by some police and government
officials, White militants still enjoy rights such as freedom of speech,
freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, freedom of religion, freedom to keep
and bear arms, freedom against unreasonable search and seizure, freedom against
self-incrimination, freedom to petition redress of grievances, and the right to
run for and hold political office.
Such rights and freedoms are important tools in the struggle to save our Race
from extinction

Polacker får svar om spioneriet när arkiven öppnas

Bakom trista fasader i centrala Warszawa tickar en tidsinställd bomb,
den gamla kommunistiska säkerhetspolisen arkiv med hundratusentals
dokument som vittnar om decennier av förtryck, angiveri och en
permanent övervakning av oppositionella.
Sammanlagt rör det sig om 96 dammiga hyllkilometer som nu öppnas för
den polska allmänheten. Inom loppet av tre veckor har redan 15 000
personer ansökt om att få se sina handlingar. Många av dem för att få
reda på om grannar, vänner eller arbetskamrater har spionerat på dem.
- Naturligtvis kommer det att utspelas tragedier när de första fallen
av angiveri och svek dyker upp, säger Pawel Machcewicz, historiker och
direktör vid det så kallade Institutet för nationell åminnelse, IPN,
som både förvaltar arkiven och som har en egen åklagarenhet med uppgift
att utreda brott under kommunismen.

Trots detta tror många att det för Polen inte finns någon annan väg att
gå. Hur mycket det än smärtar, säger många, är öppenhet det enda som
kan förhindra att giftet från kommunismen fortsätter att verka.
- Förr eller senare måste Polen göra upp med sitt förflutna. Sanningen
måste fram i dagsljuset om vi ska kunna blicka framåt, tror även Pawel
Machcewicz som tidigare var forskare vid den polska vetenskapsakademin.

Hur plågsam denna process riskerar att bli visar det östtyska exemplet
som enligt kritiker ledde till en häxjakt. Efter murens fall öppnade
tyskarna 1991 de så kallade Stasiarkiven. Ut vällde en flod av
motbjudande spionrapporter. Kända dissidenter upptäckte att deras makar
hade lämnat upgifter till Stasi. Föräldrar hade angivits av sina barn.
Och rocksångare och andra ungdomsidoler avslöjades som kollaboratörer.

I över 40 år hade det östtyska ministeriet för statssäkerhet, MfS,
använt sig av 90 000 fast anställda och 170 000 så kallade informella
medarbetare som samlat in material om allt och alla. Det var en
gigantisk apparat som höll landet i ett järngrepp.
I dag lagras i Berlin och på 14 andra ställen i landet kartotek med 39
miljoner kort, hundratusentals ljudkassetter och filmdokument samt
väldiga mängder av magnetband från den tidens datorer - allt i allt 180
kilometer arkivutrymme.
Ingen annanstans har man gått så långt som i Tyskland när det gäller
att rensa ut kommunismen. Den offentliga sektorn och privata
arbetsgivare har låtit kontrollera nästan sex miljoner personers
förflutna.
Politiker, statstjänstemän och journalister har fått lämna sina
arbetsplatser.

I Polen vill man inte vara fullt så rigorös som i Tyskland. Inför
presidentvalet förra hösten anklagades både den legendariske
arbetarledaren Lech Walesa och den sittande presidenten Aleksander
Kwasniewski för att ha varit agenter för säkerhetspolisen.
Beskyllningarna kunde avvisas som ogrundade men mycket tyder på att
medarbetare i den gamla säkerhetsapparaten med hjälp av desinformation
hade försökt påverka valutgången.
- Vi måste vara otroligt försiktiga när vi använder oss av
säkerhetspolisens material, medger Pawel Machcewicz vid IPN och pekar
på att materialet ofta är ofullständigt och att det många gånger kan
vara svårt att avgöra hur sanningsenligt det är.

I Tjeckien där det redan 1992 skapades en så kallad lustrationslag för
att gallra ut säkerhetspolisen StB:s medarbetare rasar i dag en het
politisk debatt om effektiviteten och rättvisan i undersökningarna.
Bland annat påpekas att många som är registrerade i polisarkiven inte
varit tjallare utan i själva verket blivit förhörda av StB och av det
skälet återfinns i anteckningarna. Ett annat kritiskt argument är att
bevisbördan blivit omvänd och att Tjeckien har frångått principen om
att man ska betraktas som oskyldig tills motsatsen bevisats.
I den första fasen av de tjeckiska utredningarna fram till slutet av
1993 kontrollerades 210 000 tjecker varav 10 000 kunde identifieras som
kollaboratörer. De flesta blev avstängda från offentliga och politiska
uppdrag eller tvingas avgå från ledande befattningar i statsapparaten
och medierna.

1995 skapades det så kallade Kontoret för dokumentation och
undersökning av kommunismens brott, UDV, som sedan dess har utrett över
1 500 fall av påstådda brott och har ytterligare tusen fall kvar att
granska. Hittills har det väckts åtal i drygt 150 ärenden, bland annat
för tortyr, mord på fångar och dödsskjutningar vid gränsen. Åtalade är
även personer som anklagas för landsförräderi i samband med att
1968-upproret, den så kallade Pragvåren, slogs ned av Warszawapaktens
stridsvagnar.
Samma sak sker i dessa dagar i Slovakien där den tidigare
chefsideologen Vasil Bilak i slutet av mars ställdes inför rätta. Den
numera 83-årige Bilak anklagas för att ha legat bakom brevet till
Sovjetledningen 1968 i vilken Pragregimen bad om hjälp för att krossa
demokratirörelsen.

I förra veckan öppnades även den hatade Securitates hemliga arkiv i
Bukarest. För första gången får de uppskattningsvis två miljoner
rumäner som observerades av säkerhetspolisen tillgång till sina
handlingar. Arkiven visar att uppåt 700 000 rumäner spionerade på sina
landsmän för Securitates räkning.
En av de första som fick se sina dokument var författaren Lucia Blagas
dotter Dorli Blaga som hittills bara har hunnit plöja igenom en bråkdel
av det omfattande materialet.
- Det rör sig om hundratals sidor av anteckningar, avlyssnade
telefonsamtal och diskussioner som förts i vårt hus, sade hon.
- Det betyder att det fanns mikrofoner utplacerade överallt. Och allt
har antecknats: när vi vaknade på morgonen, när vi åt frukost och när
vi skrev. De spionerade på oss även i de mest intima situationer.

Sedan den 7 februari kan polackerna ansöka om att få se sina handlingar
som upprättats av säkerhetspolisen. Arkiven förvaltas av Institutet för
nationell åminnelse, IPN, som räknar med att de första dokumenten
kommer att kunna lämnas ut tidigast i juli.
I kopiorna kommer namnen på agenter och spioner att vara överstrukna.
Den som vill veta namnen måste lämna in en speciell ansökan. Arkiven
står öppna enbart för personer som varit förföljda under kommunismen.
Tillgång får även forskare och viss mån medierna. Handlingar som
innehåller uppgifter om agenter som i dag är verksamma kommer inte att
lämnas ut. Samma sak gäller för uppgifter som bedöms kunna skada

Den italienske författaren Primo Levi skriver i sin bok "Är detta en människa?"
om en återkommande mardröm han lider av, medan han fortfarande befinner sig i
Auschwitz: han drömmer att han befriats från lägret och återvänt hem. Han
börjar berätta detaljerat om lidandena och ondskan. Men plötsligt upptäcker

I doubt america would lift a finger. Colin Powell certainly doesn't come off
like a friend to Israel. America has no balls. As a matter of fact while
looking for some unrelated information its amazing how many organizations exist
in America that promote anti-jewish propaganda.

A nuclear device could be delivered by aircraft, although this would also take
a lot of planing involving many people and consequential security leaks .
Supplies of uranium are traceable and any attempts to construct a quantity of
nuclear bombs should be detectable by intelligence services .
So let us hope and pray that we heed the lessons of history and that Arab
governments have enough sense to know that there can be no winners in another
war. Israel already has this knowledge perhaps given enough time, peace will
come, as Geoff has forecast in his posting.

The one good thing about nuclear weapons is that you just can't go shooting
them off like pop guns. To construct a nuclear device takes a team of
scientists plus a lot of additional work involving many people. Even if they
were able to achieve this a rocket launching site would hopefully be spoted by
satellites well before launch day and preventative action could be taken. I
cannot see the US allowing the situation to develop. Any government,
particularly the US who has a vast databank of research in this field, knows
full well the totally disasterous consequences to the whole world of using
nuclear weapons and self interest would be the prime mover in preventing such
an attack. I think that would go for both sides including Israel.
That is why the US will support Israel with vast amounts of conventional
weaponry and even armed forces, if the situation should require it. Not out of
any sense of loyalty or particular prinicple , but the fear of nuclear
escalation.

Yes, Dov, you are right. The only thing that kept the Soviets in check was the
(American) doctrine of mutually assured distruction and a degree of certainty
that their own destruction would have been assured. Had they doubted this, had
their analysis showed them that the Americans are growing "soft", they would
have been much less amenable to continue the cold war as it was - cold. When I
was a student in Moscow University in the 70s, the women were trained as
emergency medical technicians for civil defence. As part of that mandatory
training, we watched a lot of made for military training films of nuclear test
sites; we also saw a good deal of documentary footage from Hiroshima &
Nagasaki. The message of that footage - the objective, cold inhumanity and
horror of it all - was very clear. So when you say that we must at all costs
prevent this from happenning in the Middle East, I am in full agreement with
you. My contention is that Israel will not likely to use the nukes first. As
far as the Arabs - had they been able to get the nukes, they'd would have used
them even if that means they would obliterate the whole Middle East in the
process. You are right - martyrdom is less attractive when nobody is watching.
But the world will be watching. Palestinians are already experts in the field
of voyerism: they parade their martyrs and martyrs-in-training in front of the
TV cameras daily. They are rewarded by world's attention lavished on them.
Imagine the thrill of knowing that potentially the whole world could be
watching while they annihilate the whole of Israel? I can see them go for it.
The world might be disgusted but will be fascinated and the world would watch!
BTW, the Japanese never ran out of Kamikaze pilots; they ran out of war because
the US forced them to capitulate through the sheer horror of the devastation
which was wrought by those two relatively small devices...

Martyrs will only be martyrs when there is someone around to witness the act.
There's not a great deal in it for the martyr when all his potential admirers
have been incinerated. History has shown that the majority is not willing to
sacrifice their lives for the cause. The Japanese eventually ran out of
Kamikaze.
A nuclear war there will not only destroy the whole middle east it will poison
and probably erradicate life on this earth. If you look at the after effects of
the nuclear explosions in Japan as I mentioned in my previous posting, the
situation was simply horrendous and this was only from two relatively small
atomic devices. We must never allow things to get to the stage of even issueing
such threats. These weapons serve a purpose to remind us just how precious life
is and may bring us back to some sort of sanity and self control even in our
worst moments. Having said all this, the purpose of these weapons are to deter
an unconvential attack by an enemy. So without doubt they are there to be used
in extreme circumstances. The effectiveness of chemical and biological weapons
are considered unproven and erratic in warfare but there is no doubt as to the
immediacy of nuclear weapons

With all due respect, I fail to see that this will affect the Arab position:
hell, if Israel drops the nukes, they'd be all martyrs, their souls would go
straight to the foot of Allah's throne. If and when they'd be so blessed as to
be assured of martyrdom en mass, do you think they would care that entire
region is made practically uninhabitable? Nothing compares to the rewards of
martyrdom, nothing at least not in THIS WORLD. If there were anything, would we
be where we are now in the Middle East? Or would we have an entirely different
political dynamics? I'm afraid the Gotterdammerung scenario sounds all too
plausible taking into account the attitudes of the Arab and non-Arab Muslim
populations in the region. That is, if Israel ever lets lose those 200 nukes...

O rewolcie 1968 r. mówią: Aleksander Smolar, Alain Madelin, Daniel Cohn-Bendit,

Dominika Wielowieyska: Co dały Polsce wydarzenia z marca 1968 roku?
Aleksander Smolar: To czas niezwykle ważny dla nas, bo w 1968 roku już byliśmy
o jedną epokę dalej niż Praska Wiosna. A Czesi wciąż wierzyli, że komunizm da
się poprawić. My wiedzieliśmy, że komunizmu zreformować się nie da. Ten bunt
był wynikiem zawiedzionych nadziei. W 1956 roku Polacy cieszyli się, że to
koniec stalinizmu. Gomułka w 1956 roku miał wielki kapitał zaufania i go
zmarnował.

Studenci w Marcu walczyli o konkretne wartości, jak prawa człowieka, zniesienie
cenzury, przestrzeganie konstytucji. 1968 rok był zalążkiem tego wszystkiego,
co działacze opozycji dokonali w następnych latach.

Jednocześnie 1968 rok był ważnym sprawdzianem dla Polski. Część aparatu
partyjnego pod wodzą Mieczysława Moczara chciała dojść do władzy i nawiązać
kontakt ze społeczeństwem za pomocą idei nacjonalizmu. Moczar chciał tak
pozyskać Polaków, ale przegrał. Wtedy została zablokowana droga, którą mogli
pójść działacze PZPR. Tą drogą poszedł Ceausescu w Rumunii czy Miloszević w
Jugosławii. U nas okazało się to mało chwytliwe. Potwierdziły to strajki i
rewolty w 1970 i w 1976 roku. Tam nie chodziło o idee nacjonalistyczne, ale o
reformy i demokrację. Także w tym wymiarze wydarzenia 1968 roku są niezwykle
istotne dla historii Polski.


Mówił Pan podczas konferencji, że dziś Marzec jest głównie kojarzony z nagonką
antysemicką.
- Pamiętam, że jeszcze niedawno Marzec był przede wszystkim rewoltą studentów,
a sprawę awantur antysemickich uważano za marginalną. Pamiętam debatę
w "Krytyce" kilka lat po tych wydarzeniach, w której sprawa Żydów prawie w
ogóle nie zaistniała. Dziś przywołuje się tylko represje, jakie spotkały
Polaków pochodzenia żydowskiego.


Skąd taka zmiana proporcji?
- Wtedy problem antysemityzmu nie wydawał się tak istotny. Część ludzi ulegała
propagandzie, że w tym czasie Polskę opuścili także Żydzi bardzo aktywni w
służbach bezpieczeństwa. Część działaczy opozycyjnych, którzy mają żydowskie
korzenie, unikała drażliwego tematu, jakim są stosunki polsko-żydowskie. Teraz
przywoływanie tamtych nagonek jest bardzo łatwe. Dlatego tamten antysemityzm
piętnują politycy o korzeniach postkomunistycznych, odcinając się od tamtych
praktyk. Także prawica eksploatuje wątek żydowski Marca, wskazując, że
antysemitami byli komuniści. Należy pamiętać o tej stronie Marca, ale niedobrze
się dzieje, że to zdominowało wspomnienie o tych wydarzeniach. Przecież to był
przede wszystkim spontaniczny ruch studencki, który rozlał się na całą Polskę i
był początkiem potrzebnej i twórczej działalności opozycyjnej.


Po tym, co przeżył Pan w Polsce, ideały rewolty '68 roku na Zachodzie były Panu
obce. Z przerażeniem zauważył Pan myślenie totalitarne u lewicowych przyjaciół
z Włoch i z Francji. Nie mógł Pan pojąć, dlaczego akceptują terroryzm.
- Ten ruch na Zachodzie miał różne wymiary. Pierwszy to wymiar języka. To
alfabet zaczerpnięty z Chin, Wietnamu, Kuby, który nosił znamiona utopii. I
były tam też elementy antydemokratyczne. Ale problem leżał nie tylko w języku,
ale też w sposobie reagowania na wydarzenia. I tak wojna w Wietnamie wywołała
wielkie oburzenie środowisk lewicowych, ale interwencja w Czechosłowacji mniej
ich obchodziła. I to mnie irytowało.


Na Zachodzie łatwiej było się Panu porozumieć z ludźmi prawicy, choć lewica
była Panu bliższa.
- To prawda, tyle że prawica, choć nie miała złudzeń co do komunizmu, to jednak
niewiele ją obchodziło, co dzieje się w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej. A ruch
studencki na Zachodzie był wymierzony przeciwko imperializmowi amerykańskiemu i
zimnej wojnie. I to był pewien wspólny element dla rewolty w Polsce i na
Zachodzie

Bunt studentów na Zachodzie jest istotny także dlatego, że był zwiastunem
sporów, jakie toczą się w społeczeństwach, gdzie kwestie materialne nie mają
już pierwszorzędnego znaczenia. Tam spory toczą się wokół problemów
kulturowych. I to są te debaty, które zaczynają się także w naszym kraju.

Maria Kruczkowska: Jak Pan widzi dziś, po 30 latach, znaczenie roku 1968?
Alain Madelin: Goszczę w Polsce z okazji 12. rocznicy "Gazety", pierwszej
wolnej gazety w Europie Wschodniej. Ta rocznica i wszystko, co się z nią łączy -
upadek muru berlińskiego, koniec komunizmu - wydaje mi się dużo ważniejsza niż
cały paryski Maj '68. W 1981 r. byłem już pewien, że komunizm upadnie, nie
wiedziałem jednak, czy stanie się to za mojego życia. To marzenie zaczęło się
spełniać właśnie w Polsce. Tu powstała "Solidarność" - ruch, który miał w tle
Marzec 1968 r.

Historia przyznała rację tylko jednej ze stron - tej, która usiłowała obalić
komunizm. Zachodnie ruchy studenckie myliły się.


I dziś Pan, który 30 lat temu był działaczem antykomunistycznej organizacji
młodzieżowej, przyjaźnie rozmawia z "czerwonym Danym" Cohn Benditem -
postrachem prawicy, śmiertelnym wrogiem z tamtej epoki. Jak i kiedy
spotkaliście się?
- Zaczęło się od wspólnej akcji ludzi lewicy '68 i ludzi z obozu
antykomunistycznego na rzecz boat people - ludzi, którzy na łódkach uciekali z
Wietnamu Południowego. Dla lewicowców - również dla Cohn Bendita, który
wcześniej walczył z amerykańską interwencją w Wietnamie - ta rozpaczliwa
ucieczka Wietnamczyków przed komunizmem była prawdziwym szokiem, objawieniem
natury komunizmu. Potem byliśmy świadkami ludobójstwa w Kambodży - po raz
kolejny historia przyznała mi rację. W latach 80. braliśmy już wspólnie udział
w akcjach na rzecz dysydentów z Europy Wschodniej, przede wszystkim
wspieraliśmy polską "Solidarność".

Dziś wszyscy wyznają system wartości demokracji liberalnej. Z tą różnicą, że
dla mnie liberalizm jest skutkiem refleksji nad racjami mego zaangażowania
antykomunistycznego, natomiast dla wielu intelektualistów lewicowych jest
refleksją nad przyczynami ich zaangażowania po stronie marksizmu.


Jak to się stało, że w 1968 r. nie uległ Pan rewolucyjnej modzie pokolenia?
- Na pewno nie miało to związku z pochodzeniem społecznym. Mój ojciec był
robotnikiem, wyrosłem w ludowej dzielnicy Paryża Belleville-Menilmontat.
Zaangażowałem się politycznie już jako licealista. Decydującym momentem była
dla mnie wojna w Algierii. Byłem oburzony porzuceniem przez Francję tzw.
harkis - żołnierzy algierskich wiernych naszemu krajowi, którzy potem zostali
zmasakrowani przez niepodległościową partyzantkę FLN. W czasie wojny
wietnamskiej, gdy moi koledzy studenci opowiedzieli się po stronie Wietnamu
Północnego, wstąpiłem do antykomunistycznego ruchu Occident. Ponieważ w
ówczesnej Francji antykomuniści znaleźli się na marginesie, także Occident
zaliczono do skrajnej prawicy. W późniejszych latach, szukając korzeni mego
spontanicznego antykomunizmu, doszedłem do filozofii liberalnej.


Co Maj '68 przyniósł Francji?
- Właściwie nic ważnego. Zwiększenie płacy minimalnej? Zgodę na koedukacyjne
domy studenckie? Liberalizację systemu szkolnego? Tymczasem ludzie wyrośli z
1968 r. we Europie Wschodniej doprowadzili do upadku komunizmu. Nie można
porównywać ciężaru gatunkowego tego, co działo się na Wschodzie i na Zachodzie.


A liberalizacja obyczajów?
- Owszem, i to była dobra rzecz, ale Francja jeszcze przed 1968 r. była
społeczeństwem otwartym i dalsza liberalizacja mogłaby też nastąpić na innej
drodze. Dziś przecież widać, do jak głębokiej liberalizacji prowadzi Internet i
globalizacja rynku, które tworzą społeczeństwo mniej zhierarchizowane i mniej
autorytarne.

Nie mam najmniejszych problemow z zaladowaniem tej strony. Znowu potwierdza sie, ze polski internet
to wyspa, polskie strony z zagranicy sa ledwo osiagalne (poza wyjatkami, jak np. gazeta.pl), a z kolei z
Polski trudno zaladowac strony zagraniczne. Czesto szlag mnie trafia, gdy bedac w Polsce mam
