888, jego prapremiera odbyla sie w Londynie, w regularnej sprzedazy
bedzie od marca. Bedzie to kompozycja bardziej dostepna- tak samo

Z okazji jego premiery prasowej w Londynie otworzono nawet mini
butik otwarty jedynie przez tydzien. Wachalem- bardzo interesujacy,

latest fragrance.
Launched in London yesterday, 888 is the result of Comme des
Garçons’ typically unconventional approach. Creative director
Christian Astuguevielle told Cosmetics International, “We started
with the concept that we wanted to find if gold has an odour and we
looked for an olfactive expression. I looked at a number of
different materials and decided very quickly on Safraline because of
its very specific character.”

Safraline is a molecular derivative of saffron created by Swiss
perfume house Givaudan (see Cosmetics International 6 July), whose
perfumer Antoine Lie created 888. He combined the note with
pepperwood, curcuma, coriander and geranium. Amber was added for a
touch of colour, together with incense and patchouli. “We use only
the highest quality materials,” said Astuguevielle. “We look for
accuracy and beauty and saffron is particularly interesting because
of its life and volume.”

The name, meanwhile, was chosen because of the connotations
surrounding the number. “Eight is a number that interests us,”
explained Astuguevielle. “It’s a symbol of infinity, it has very
positive associations and it conveys happiness in some civilisations
so we fixed very quickly on the name.”

The fragrance is bottled in a gold version of Comme des Garçons’
signature asymmetiric pebble-shaped flacon and will make its
international debut in March priced £52 for a 50ml edp."

niestety, mam czarne mysli, wyobrazam sobie ze 888 nie spodoba mi
sie - kurkuma, geranium i kolendra brzmia bardzo gorzko, zielono i
plasko, cala nadzieja w szafranie i drzewie pieprzowym, ktore
uwielbiam, moze nadadza kompozycji troche zwiewnosci i miekkosci

podobnie jestem rozczarowana patchouli i champaca

Zdecydowanie za czesto- do ich premier 2008 nalezy doliczyc jeszcze
serie stworzona z wspolpracujacymi projektantami- S. Jones,
Undercover i pare innych zapachow.
8 88 ma symbolizowac zloto- z pobieznego wachania (mialem nos zajety
przez Patchouli sprobowanej w pobliskim Dover Street) spodobal mi
sie, choc nie jest to typowa awangarda. Gdzies przeblyskiwaly tez
akordy kadzidla, ale w bardzo lekkim wydaniu.
Champaca rowniez mnie rozczarowala, jak wspominalem. Co do paczuli-
dobrze komponuje sie w najnowszym meskim Amouage Jubilation- choc i
tu spodziewalem sie wiekszego przelomu.

Forever, to jestes w Londynie? Cos kupiłes?:-) Podobno były tshirty CdG Parfums
"vintage" za 20 funtow.

A juz myslalem ze 8 88 to cos jak odeur53 i 71. Bo podobnie jak one, "bazuja" na
liczbie 8:-)

Widzialem Le Labo w Liberty, opisze w naszym blogu perfumowaym potem.
Przez CdG przemknalem bardzo szybko- ale moja wiadoma kurtka
wzbudzila uznanie, hehe. T-shirty byly, ale tlum reporterow mnie
odstreczyl od dokladniejszego ogladania.

A Gold Rush for Comme des Garcons

LONDON — Comme des Garçons thinks it has struck gold — liquid gold, that is.

The avant-garde fashion and fragrance house will introduce 8 88, a scent
concocted around the precious metal's imaginary smell, starting in February.

The fragrance is the first created as part of Comme des Garçons' licensing
agreement with Puig Beauty and Fashion Group. Under that deal, which was signed
in 2002, Puig also produces and distributes the brand's Comme des Garçons 2 and
Comme des Garçons Man scents.

"[The project] has taken us a long time," said Ana Trias, brand director for
Comme des Garçons, which she said did not employ traditional marketing tools,
such as consumer testing, in the creation process.

That may explain 8 88's conceptual bent.

"Perfume is about making a dream; it's about a journey into the imagination,"
said Adrian Joffe, president and managing director of Comme des Garçons Parfums.
"One of man's original dreams was to find gold. We worked on an idea of what
gold would smell like if it had a smell."

"We started with gold — not in the physical sense or money or connected with
luxury — but as a raw material, as a mineral," added Trias.

Givaudan perfumer Antoine Lie, working with Christian Astuguevieille (a liaison
between Comme des Garçons and perfumers), translated that idea into a tangible
blend of safraline, a molecular derivation of saffron, pepper wood, curcuma,
coriander, geranium, amber, incense and patchouli.

The 8 88 bottle, which is similar in shape to the flat flacons with off-kilter
spray devices used for Comme des Garçons Man and Comme des Garçons 2, is coated
with metallic gold paint. The scent's name — which plays on the number eight's
lucky connotations — is emblazoned twice on the front of the bottle.

The eau de parfum will be available as 50- and 100-ml. sprays, which are to
retail for 52 pounds and 65 pounds, respectively, in the U.K., or $107 and $134
at current exchange. The line also includes incense sticks and a scented candle.

Puig and Comme des Garçons executives declined to discuss forecasts. However,
industry sources estimate

8 88 will generate $10 million in wholesale volume in its first year.

Bowing in Russia in February, 8 88 will be rolled out to the rest of the world
in March, when it will be distributed in 1,000 perfumeries as well as
fashion-oriented boutiques and art galleries.
