"In spite of current economic turmoil, US-based niche fragrance
brand Bond N° 9 expects to generate sales of $30m in 2008, up 30%
compared with last year and in line with targets, Bond N° 9 founder
and ceo Laurice Rahme tells CosmeticNews. Rahme is projecting 20%
sales growth for the first half of 2009.

In the brand’s home market, Rahme aims to open four new freestanding
stores in New York City before the end of 2009. Internationally, she
says the brand should launch in 15 new markets throughout the course
of next year, including Greece, Portugal, Brazil, Sweden, Turkey,
Denmark and Israel (following openings in Canada and Argentina in
2008). Although two-thirds of total sales for the brand are
currently generated in the US market, Rahme says she wants to divide
sales evenly between domestic and international markets by 2010.

Bond N° 9 also continues to draw inspiration from the Big Apple. Two
new scents named after New York neighborhoods will launch globally
next spring. The first, dubbed Brooklyn, is a fresh, spicy, woody
unisex scent concocted by French perfumer Laurent Le Guernec. “This
new fragrance is very much a New York story,” Rahme says. “Many New
Yorkers come from Brooklyn. While Park Avenue or Madison Soirée are
more global scents, we will see how this new one does globally.” The
bottle features a clear glass design inspired by street art. “Street
art is really big since [US president-elect] Obama’s campaign. We
react quickly,” Rahme explains. The brand will also launch Astor
Place, a fresh, green, floral scent, again formulated by Le Guernec.
Both fragrances will be priced $220 for 100ml and $145 for 50ml.

Asked about how Bond N° 9’s Wall Street fragrance is faring in the
rocky retail climate, Rahme says: “Wall Street is still doing [well]
as a scent, but while I would always show it in our ad campaigns
last year, this year [because of the financial turmoil] we prefer
not promote it.” "
