Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek today warned his Anfield team-mates that
defeat at Old Trafford tomorrow night is unthinkable.
The Reds are looking to continue their excellent recent run against Alex
Ferguson's men, but know they will have to improve on their performance on
Saturday if they are to prevent the league leaders from notching a ninth
Premiership win in a row.
Dudek, one of the few Liverpool players to emerge with any credit following
the 1-1 draw with Southampton, said: "We can't lose at Manchester United. We
just can't let it happen.
"Saturday was a bad day for us and we didn't get the result we wanted. It was
a very poor performance and it's hard to know where things went wrong for us.
If we want to win the title then we can't accept games like that.
"We started very well and looked like we would score a lot of goals. But after
a few early chances, and Michael's goal, we didn't carry on in that style and
eventually the match drifted from us.
"I thought we were unlucky with Southampton's goal but it was a situation we
could have dealt with. Now we have to be big and strong and go to Old Trafford
in the right frame of mind.
"It's obviously a massive game for us and they are flying at the moment, but
we are capable of rising to the occasion and I believe we can get a result.
It's unthinkable that we should lose this game. We don't want them getting any
further away from us at the top of the table. We need to put a good run of
results together and we need that run to start now. If this goes on much
longer then the league table won't look good for us."
