Primarily, it is responsible for three Regione Militare (Military Regions),
covering the northern, southern and central parts of Italy.
Below Land Force Command are six subordinate commands: 1º Comando Forze di
Difesa (1st Defence Force Command), 2º Comando Forze di Difesa (2nd Defence
Force Command), Comando delle Truppe Alpine (Alpine Troop Command), Comando

Alpina "Tridentina" ("Tridentina" Alpine Brigade). Each brigade includes
infantry, tank, artillery and engineering regiments. "Taurinense" Alpine
Brigade is available to NATO.
In addition to NATO, the EU and SEEBRIG, the Italian Army also provides one

European Operational Rapid Force (EUROFOR), which is available for peace-
keeping operations, and the 16-nation Standby Force High Readiness Brigade
(SHIRBRIG), which is available for rapid deployment in UN operations.
