      • Gość: Ray Re: Lodz IP: *.dip.t-dialin.net 17.07.03, 18:35
        Hi,

I was briefly last year, but this time I'm coming for two weeks. That should be
enough to have a great time Lodz!

Maybe I'll make a trip to Krakau for 1-2 days too, but I cannot find price
informations anywhere, any idea how much does it cost by train?

        Hi,
thanks for your message! What a pity yeah :-) Well, maybe I'll find someone
else then, heh. It would be fun to go out and do some parties with locals. Any
tips about bars or discos etc? :)

On Piotrkowska Street you won't have any problem with
bars. By summer time many pubs have some place to drink
          beer etc outside.
Between Mickiewicza Street and Narutowicza street you
should not have any problem with pub.
Near Lodz Kaliska Pub is Port West disco, you can go alco
to Viva Live club on Mickiewicza, Near Sienkiewicza
Street-you will see big neon od building.

what kind of music you like?

Yes, but actually police or city rangers don't keep watch
              about it.
          • Gość: Ray Re: That's a pity... IP: *.dip.t-dialin.net 19.07.03, 20:32
Yeah, Piotrkowska Street I know. Lot of bars, great :) I like most of all rock
            music!

Thanks for the tips so far!

            • geograf Aard! We need Rock music! 19.07.03, 20:55
If you like so rock music, there is an "Iron Horse" Pub
near Piotrkowska Street- exactly: at the corner of Tuwima
Street and Sienkiewicza Street-maybe you will spend sa
              good time there.

      • Gość: Ray Re: Lodz IP: *.dip.t-dialin.net 17.07.03, 18:40
Anything goes: history, festivals, etc. And maybe some nice places-to-see
        around Lodz, nearby.

        > It depends on what you are looking for.
        • Gość: flip Re: Lodz IP: *.p.lodz.pl 17.07.03, 19:34
          Have a look there:

          www.p.lodz.pl/I35/lodz_historia/lodz1-eng.html
          - not finished but some general information available,

          and there:

          www.etn-net.org/routes/index_geo_GB.htm
          - about textile heritage (this one needs some further click-work to get to
          Lodz).

As for the festivals in August, I don't know. This tends to be a rather calm
time of the year here, but maybe I'm wrong.

unfortunately i must say: there is nothing to see in lodz... maybe exept for
some old (ruined) factories or some old buildings (also ruined...) but I'll
think about it and try to give You a better answer :)
            barracuda7110
ps sorry for being a "little" pesymistic but living in this city makes me

Since Ray has decided to come here, it would be good if he wasn't as pesimistic as you are. :-)
Ray, belive or not, if you want, you'll always find something interesting in Lodz.
              • Gość: Ray Re: Lodz IP: *.dip.t-dialin.net 19.07.03, 20:37
Heh, well I won't be expecting to see any sunny beaches or something in Lodz.
That's ok, I just wanna hang around, meet some people and experience some
history too. I agree, I bet I'll find out something interesting to do! :)

These messages here in forum have already been quite helpful. One other website
is virtualtourist.com, in case someone else is interested.

Heh, but maybe you will like to spend some time on beach
                  in forest?
Forest of Lagiewniki and Arturowek-on north of the city
is very good place for a walk, relax and sunbathing (if
                  there's a weather).
            • geograf Re: Lodz 18.07.03, 13:00
Sorry, but i can't agree with you.
Ok-maybe we don't have in our city brand new or
not-ruined factories, mansions or palaces, but there are
some objects where you can stay for a while and just look
or get inside (for example museums).
Palaces such as Poznanski's-on Ogrodowa Street, where is
City of Lodz Museum, Scheibler's- Victory Square where is
              Kinematographic Musuem, Kinderman's-on Wolczanska Street
where is some galery and exemple of best Modern Style in
Lodz, Herbst Palace with pretty garden on Priest Mill,
where is Museum of Lodz Indoors (i don't know how to
translate it's name) and many, many more.
You have some realy good factories-on Ogrodowa Street end
Priest Mill and many in center, you have some Cemetaries-
on Ogrodowa Street (Katholics, Protestants and
Orthodoxes) and on Bracka Street (Jewish).

Of course many place that have to be seen are ruined,
              bur..that is real Lodz!
              • Gość: Ray Re: Lodz IP: *.dip.t-dialin.net 19.07.03, 20:40
                Hi geograf,

thanks for your great message! One thing more: I know that you have lot to do
with film branche in Lodz. Anything worthwhile to see/do in that area?
                • geograf Re: Lodz 19.07.03, 21:19
Funny thing- where/who do you know such thing from?

Film branche- best times this branch already had (maybe
                  will have in future).
You should see Museum of cinematography (Victory Squere,
near Priest Mill), it is a beautiful palace and you can
alco see there interiors of old factory owners houses.
Near it is famous Lodz's Film School (Targowa Street).
I don't have idea what to tell more.
Many places you HAVE to see in this city :-)

Ow- maybe you will like to ride largest suburb tram line
in Europ? (26 km, to Ozorkow?;-) )
