Christmas trip ends in tragic death
A POLISH man was killed as he travelled from Ballyhaunis to Dublin airport to
return home for the Christmas period. Pawel Kowalski (21) with an address of
Cherryville, Ballyhaunis, died when the vehicle he was travelling in collided
with a wall near Athlone on Sunday morning.
The single vehicle collision occurred at 8.10am at Cam Brideswell,
Ballyforan. Three men were in the car at the time, the deceased was a
passenger. The driver and a second passenger received serious injuries and
were removed to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe. Mr Kowalski and his
brother both resided in the East Mayo town.
In a separate incident Gardaí in Gort are investigating a fatal crash, which
took place on Saturday night at Carheeny More, Gort, Co. Galway.
The crash, which occurred at 11.45pm, involved a van and a truck. A female
Polish passenger in the van was fatally injured while the male driver of the
van was taken to University Hospital Galway, the extent of his injuries are
not known.
