Function
The European Central Bank (ECB) is seeking to appoint a Polish
Lawyer-Linguist for its Lawyer-Linguists Division, which forms part
of the Directorate General Legal Services.
The Lawyer-Linguists Division is responsible for the preparation of
the ECB’s legal acts and instruments for adoption in the official
Community languages, for reviewing such texts for legal, linguistic
and terminological consistency and for maintaining a legal
terminology database.
The Division coordinates the preparation of the ECB’s opinions when
the ECB is consulted on draft national legislative provisions. It
also prepares the legal chapter of the ECB’s Convergence Report and
its “country rapporteurs” provide national legal expertise to the
output of the Directorate General Legal Services. Furthermore, the
Division is responsible for publishing and disseminating the ECB’s
legal framework and other legal publications, and provides the
secretariat of the Legal Committee (LEGCO) of the European System of
Central Banks (ESCB).
The successful candidate will be responsible for translating the
ECB’s legal acts into Polish and, in his or her role as country
rapporteur for Poland, for providing legal advice in relation to
Polish law.
Qualifications and experience
University degreein law awarded in Poland.
Perfect command of Polish.
Excellent knowledge of English.
Very good knowledge of at least one other official Community
language would be an advantage.
Professional translation experience in the fields of law, finance or
economics.
Good knowledge of Community law.
Sound background knowledge of financial law, central banking and
economic affairs.
Advanced PC skills and a practical knowledge of standard MS Office
applications are essential. Familiarity with a terminology
management package, such as SDL MultiTerm, and translation memory
software, such as SDL Translator’s Workbench, would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be expected to carry out assigned work
with little supervision.
Self-motivation and the ability to work as part of a team, assuming
the role of coordinator when necessary, are very important.
