Foreigners????

17.03.10, 10:18
Taaak... Oczywiscie forum nazywa sie "Foreigners living in Poland".
osoba ktora do nas dolaczyla by zyc i pracowac razem z nami?
Im szybciej zmienimy nasz stosunek (a wiec i slownictwo) do
imigrantow tym lepiej dla nas. Polska, polska gospodarka, potrzebuja
ich jak przyslowiowej wody na pustyni. Zainteresowanym polecam
artykul w najnowszym numerze angielsko-jezycznego Newsweek'a o
czekajacej Europe zapasci demograficznej. Jak zauwaza tygodnik mamy
do wyboru amerykanska droge masowej integracji do dynamizacji Europy
lub japonskie etniczne odciecie sie wraz z nieuniknionym kryzysem.
Dla Rosjan, Ukraincow, Chinczykow, Hindusow, Brazylijczykow,
Afrykanow, Arabow... Polska powinna byc krajem zyciowej przygody...
i szansy na lepsze zycie.. taka sama jaka dzisiaj jest dla nich
mniejsza ludnosciowo od Polski Kanada...

      No it doesn't.

No. Not all foreigners in Poland are immigrants (some are only
living here temporarily), but all immigrants in Poland are
foreigners, so the title makes sense.

I agree with You, but would argue about the above statement. Quite a few Poles
returned after a number of years abroad. If they returned after becomming
settled in a new country, then they are immigrants as well, though not
        foreigners in Poland.

          What are you talking about?
They are not immigrants if they COME BACK.
And the title is perfect. Foreigner- Person from other country. No xenophobia,
          no racism.

If you are away from a country for a number of years – specially a country which
changes as much as Poland – and come back, then you leave the new country in
which you settled and you will be mixed between the different ways of living.
Coming back to Poland after a few years you face the same problems as other
emigrants face: you are not aware how things work because the ways have changed
of you have been accustomed to other ways of doing things, your work experience
is not necessarily acknowledged by the employers, you have to find a home and
            school for the children.

I’m not talking about going away for 6 months, but after a period you become a
foreigner in your country of origin. That’s just the way things work, like it or
            not.

I've lived in Canada for almost 10 years now and intend to stay
here. No matter where I live, for God's sake - I AM POLISH - and I
would be offended if somebody (like you) called me an immigrant when
              I came back to Poland.

I guarantee you; it would not be a problem to find a decent job and
              a home for my family.

Gamoniu, slyszales kiedys slowo "repatriate" albo "repatriant"? Ucz sie dalej
angielskiego i polskiego, ale try harder zamiast blaznic sie swoja ciemnota
          publicznie.

I really see no problem with the name. I think 'immigrants' sounds more
xenophobic. And of course you could call it 'expats living in Poland' or so, but
really, what's the point? I don't think anybody gets offended by being called a
      'foreigner' or 'cudzoziemiec' in Polish.

There is a joke about an Englishman who fell for a beautiful Swedish girl and
went to meet her parents. Everything was going all right until the girl's father
said. "You've got a good job and a promising career ahead and you seem to be a
reasonable young man. However, there is one problem. You are a foreigner."
To that the young man replied. "Me, me a foreigner? You all are foreigners not
      me!!!!"
Concluding - expats living in Poland would be a much better title.

When I started this group, I started it for the group of people living in Poland
who are foreigners, or for Poles interested in foreigners in Poland. I always
say that a person should be able to define what they are for themselves, and so
if a person doesn't see themselves as "a foreigner" but wants to describe
themselves as "a returning emigre", "an expat", "a fellow European Union member
state subject-slash-citizen", "a member of the human race" or "a being of Terran
origin" or "a form of life from somewhere in the Milky Way galaxy", (other
chocolate bars are available), then it's up to them. If a person thinks that
they are neither a foreigner, nor a Pole interested in foreigners, then I've got
good news for them: there are tens of thousands of other groups on gazeta.pl
apart from this one, and they can even make their own one for
"ex-patriot-missiles in Minsk Mazowiecki" or whatever.

Nie masz racji. Brytyjczycy na przyjezdnych z Unii mowia 'migrant',
bo widomo - freedom of settlement and employment, i taki raz jest
tutaj, potem tam, a i do siebie wraca. Z przybyszami spoza Unii inna
      historia i inne regulacje prawne.
