Coffee machines 'hid drugs haul'
HM Customs said the boxes were found inside a Polish registered
vehicle
Drugs worth an estimated £6.3m have been found inside coffee machine
boxes at the Port of Dover, HM Customs said.
Officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) discovered 700kg
(1,500lbs) of amphetamines and 120kg (265lbs) of cannabis at docks
on Tuesday.
The drugs, said to be hidden inside a Polish registered vehicle, are
thought to have been destined for Northampton.
Polish national Gracjan Marcin Zientara, 32, of Pila, Poland, has
been charged with drug smuggling offences.
Mr Zientara was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Dover
Magistrates Court in December 2008.
Malcolm Bragg, of HM Revenue & Customs, said: "Our priority, in
partnership with the UKBA, is to wipe out illegal drugs and their
availability on city streets.
"We hope our efforts will reduce the devastating impact drugs have
on individuals as well as the wider effect on local communities."
