Ludzie stoją w kolejce całą noc, żeby dostać szczepionkę na grypę.

It's the same story today in northern Virginia as it's been in Richmond and other Virginia cities this week.
Some people waited all night at a supermarket to secure a spot in line for a flu shot. Some of the people at the Giant in McLean had camped out since ten o'clock last night night. At six this morning, store workers began handing out numbers to the first 250 people in line. It took just 15-minutes before they ran out, and the store is now turning away anyone without a number.Another Giant, in Dale City, had people lined up yesterday before dawn, waiting for flu shots that wouldn't be given until noon. The other flu shot clinic scheduled this week in Prince William County is supposed to be at a Giant store Lake Ridge.

But Karen Preston has been worrying a lot ever since last summer when Ryan returned home on leave and showed her these photos of the unarmored vehicles his unit was using for convoy duty in Iraq.

Lacking the proper steel plating to protect soldiers from enemy mines and rocket propelled grenades, they had been jerry-rigged with plywood and sandbags.

"They were called cardboard coffins," Preston says.

      ..

Davis said his Humvee was armored with plywood, sandbags, and armor salvaged from old Iraqi tanks.

Tak opancerzają swoje pojazdy US Maryny w Iraku.
Znajdują kawałek żelastwa na ziemi (najczęściej ze starego pojazdu irackiego, albo rozbitego amerykańskiego) i przyspawają to do drzwi, albo do dachu.
Wygląda to tak. A i tak jest zdjęcie mało pokazujące.

Dec. 8, 2004 ? They call it "hillbilly armor" ? U.S. military vehicles protected with scrap metal salvaged from landfills. And now U.S. soldiers want to know how long they will have to scavenge for junk to protect themselves in combat.

At Camp Buerhing in Kuwait, a Tennessee Army National Guardsman with the 278th Regimental Combat Team put the question directly to visiting Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to up-armor our vehicles?" asked Spc. Thomas Wilson of Ringgold, Ga. His question was met with shouts of approval and applause from the estimated 2,300 soldiers who had gathered to see Rumsfeld.
