"Spanish fashion brand Custo Barcelona is introducing its first
women’s fragrance under a licensing agreement with Spanish company
Idesa Parfums. Described by Idesa president Esteban Rodès Monegal
as “young, trendy and urban, just like the brand name”, the
eponymous scent was developed in collaboration with Italian group
ITF, and produced by ITF’s sister company ICR.
Custo Barcelona launches in selective distribution in Italy, Germany
and Spain in October this year. It will roll out to the rest of
Europe in 2009, and to Asia and the US in 2010. In a nod to the
fashion world, the pink-magenta bottle and packaging combine fabric
and textures, including a metallic lid. The bottle is designed by
the label’s founder Custo Dalmau and designers Pati Nuñez and Toni
Arola, while the chypre, floral, fruity scent was created by Alberto
Morillas of Firmenich.
The launch is a strategic move for Idesa, which holds licenses for
three other fashion brands (Armand Basi, Angel Schlesser, Mandarina
Duck) and handles selective distribution for Italian brands. “In
2006, we lost the distribution of Dolce & Gabbana in Spain, but in
2007 we made up for this by achieving manufacturer’s sales of around
€100m. For Custo, we are banking on a five-year plan,” Rodès
Monegal, who forecasts annual sales of €50-100m in five years,
concludes. The EdT is priced from €33 (30ml) to €65 (100ml)."
