2:30pm at Headlands Center for the Arts, Eastwing, 944 Fort Barry in Sausalito.
The cost is $10 per student. The master class, which is open to all (dancers,
non-dancers, and artists of all disciplines), will be a study of
stillness/emptiness and ma - the time/space place of the in-between.

Noh Project II (working title) is an informal work-in-progress exploration of
      an intercultural dance/performance/installation with choreographer/director
June Watanabe, Noh Master and Intangible Cultural Asset of Japan, Anshin
Uchida, noted poet Leslie Scalapino, and internationally renowned
composer/musician, Pauline Oliveros with three musicians (Philip Gelb -
Shakuhachi, Shoko Hikage - Koto, and Toyoji Tomita - Trombone). A discussion
with the artists will follow the performance.

Through the encounters of ancient and contemporary dance, music, and poetry,
the Noh style and form is looked a! t from a contemporary perspective. This
almost 700-year-old form has at its core, the very principle of human myth: the
characters personal battle with fate, the complexity of life and death, and
mans quest for wisdom and spirituality. This theme is especially relevant in
this tumultuous time of a globally distraught and spiritually deprived world.

EVENT: June Watanabe in Company, in association with Headlands Center for the
Arts, presents an informal work-in-progress showing of Noh Project II (working
title): an intercultural dance/performance exploration with
Choreographer/Director June Watanabe, Noh Master and Intangible Cultural Asset
of Japan, Anshin Uchida, noted Poet Leslie Scalapino, and internationally
renowned Composer/Musician Pauline Oliveros with three Musicians (Philip Gelb
on Shakuhachi, Shoko Hikage on Koto, and Toyoji Tomita on Trombone). Through
structured and free improvisations, the artists seek common ground, a new
language, and all possibiliti! es of what the work can become.
