02/07/2002 Raul Tamudo ST Espanyol Chelsea Ł?
Enrique De Lucas: "I hear Chelsea want my friend from Espanyol, Raul Tamudo, to
come to London and from what I know of Chelsea I would certainly advise him to
come with me. I know he's ready to leave Espanyol if the offer comes. I know
Chelsea is a great and ambitious club which played in the cup final last season
and has won many trophies. So going there - and living in a cosmopolitan city
like London - is a great experience for a player."
02/07/2002 Aliou Cisse DF Paris-SG Birmingham City Ł4.5m
Birmingham manager, Steve Bruce: "The player has agreed to everything that we
have put forward to him. It has been long and protracted because of the World
Cup. We hope that by the end of the week he should be a Birmingham player." he
added: "Since he has gone into the World Cup he has gone through the roof. As
soon as I saw him play against the French in the first game we made our move.
The one thing about him is he has got a physical presence and we are short in
          that area."
02/07/2002 David Ginola WG Un-attached Portsmouth Free
Portsmouth manager, Harry Redknapp: "I've spoken to him and he's very
interested. I think he would be a tremendous signing, but it's not close
because I haven't put a deal to him yet. It all depends on the finances. He's
not at a club at the moment so it's a different ball game. It's just a case of
whether we can get him without being silly ourselves."
02/07/2002 Ilhan Mansiz ST Beskitas Chievo Ł?
Besiktas vice-president, Yildirim Demiroren: "Yes we received an offer from
Chievo for Ilhan. We did not even give them an answer. He is the star player in
our team. We aim to win the league title next season in our centenary year. We
do not want to sell Ilhan to anybody. A lot of clubs want him but they'll all
get the same answer. He is not for sale."
02/07/2002 Cristian Brocchi MF AC Milan (Various) Ł?
Brocchi: "It's my second season with AC Milan and I hope it will better than
the past one, both as from a personal and a collective point of view. We have
to reach the goals we have fixed. I read many times my name associated with
other clubs in the newspapers, but Adriano Galliani reassured me that I'm going
nowhere. Even if I could move to other teams where I could play as a starter, I
prefer staying with Milan and struggle for a place in Ancelotti's squad. The
emotion to wear the Rossonero shirt is unique."
02/07/2002 Alessandro Nesta CD Lazio AC Milan Ł?
AC Milan vice president, Adriano Galliani: "Do you ask me whether Nesta signs
with Milan? The sum requested by Lazio is still too high for our budget. I hope
the supporters can understand we have a competitive squad as well, and if
they're not happy, I'm sorry but I'm always trying to do my best as a club
          chief executive."
          02/07/2002 David O'Leary Manager Un-attached Parma Ł?
Parma official: "David is extremely highly rated here after the way his Leeds
side performed against Roma, Lazio and AC Milan in European matches over the
last two seasons. Those displays made a big impression on our president, who is
keen to meet with David." the official added: "(Arrigo) Sacchi wants to devote
himself full-time to his duties as general manager and leave the way clear for
someone like David O'Leary to move in and take sole charge of team matters." &
Parma spokesman, Giorgio Botaro: "The story is absolutely unfounded. We are not
looking for a coach, we already have one."
          02/07/2002 Robert Pires WG Arsenal - -
Pires: "As for the contract, I would still like to sign an extension but for
the last few months I have been concentrating on getting back to fitness. It
has gone really well. I am ahead of where I should be at this stage. Hopefully,
I will be able to come back to Arsenal for treatment at the beginning of next
month. I will be seeing the manager-this week and I cannot see any problem.
Arsenal want me to stay and I want to stay at the club. Hopefully, it will be
          sorted out very soon."
02/07/2002 Thomas Gravesen MF Everton Aston Villa Ł?
Everton manager, Dave Moyes: "I have a very good relationship with Graham
Taylor and if he was going to make an offer or was even considering one I would
have thought he would speak to me first - and I can say, hand on heart, that
          hasn't happened."
02/07/2002 Henning Berg DF Blackburn Rovers (Retire) -
Berg: "I could have played on but I've got family reasons for going back to
Norway. There was never any question of asking for a two-year deal."
02/07/2002 Paul Ince DM Middlesbrough (Released) -
`Boro manager, Steve McLaren: "In an ideal world, we'd have liked Paul to stay.
He was terrific for me last season and gave excellent service to the club for
three years. However, we understand the reasons behind his decision and wish
him well in whatever he decides to do next."
02/07/2002 Ergun Penbe DF Galatasaray (Various) Ł?
Ergun Penbe`s representative, Ali Guven: "Rangers, Barcelona, Newcastle and
Tottenham want to buy Ergun. But we will talk to Galatasaray first. If we
cannot reach agreement with Galatasaray, we will think about Tottenham or
          Barcelona."
02/07/2002 Dan Petrescu RB Southampton (Romania) Free
Petrescu: "It is an exciting challenge and opportunity for me. I have always
wanted to go into management and now is the right time. I cannot say yet which
club I will be joining and whether it will be as a player or coach or both but
it should be sorted out in the next few days and I am very happy to be going
home. All my family still live there, my wife, children, parents, brother and a
lot of friends and I have missed the country. I have felt at home in England
and still do - but I think you always want to return to the country where you
were born. Southampton have been very good to me and I am grateful to them for
giving me this chance. I cannot say a bad word about them." & Southampton
chairman, Rupert Lowe: "We thank Dan very much for what he has done for us. He
has been a model pro but he was concerned he was not playing enough football.
We have mutually cancelled his contract so he can return to Romania to pursue
his career there. It is a friendly and constructive decision which suits both
          parties."
02/07/2002 Magnus Svensson MF Brondby Halmstad Ł?
Halmstad coach, Jonas Thern: "We have contacted Magnus and if he wants to
return, then we will obviously be glad to have him back. He is a top class
player who did really well during the World Cup." & Svensson: "I know Halmstad
are interested in me, and I could certainly play for them again. When I called
Brondby after the World Cup to ask for an extra week's vacation, they told me
that I would not get my contract renewed. So I have decided to wait until next
week when I am due to meet with the club, before I comment on it. We will see
how it turns out but I will definitely try to play football as soon as possible
again. But whether it will be for Halmstad or some foreign club, I just do not
          know yet."
02/07/2002 Youri Djorkaeff FW Bolton Wanderers Al-Ain Bosman
Bolton manager, Sam Allardyce: "If he wants to sell his soul for a fistful of
dollars then he'll go off to the Emirates. But I don't believe he's like that
and I don't think he's short of a bob or two. I think its about him playing
football and not about escalating his bank balance."
02/07/2002 Robbie Keane ST Leeds United Sunderland Ł?
Keane: "I do not want to speak to any other club. I am happy at Leeds and am
confident that I can impress any new manager with my ability and commitment."
02/07/2002 Paul Ritchie / Stephen Caldwell DF Manchester City / Newcastle
          United Preston North End Ł?
Preston manager, Craig Brown: "I have not made any enquiries about Ritchie or
Caldwell although I know them very well and rate them both as very competent
players. But I can assure you I have not

Lee Bowyer is on his way to Anfield after Liverpool agreed a fee with Leeds for
        the controversial midfielder.

The 25-year-old, transfer-listed after refusing to sign a new contract at
Elland Road, will discuss personal terms with the Merseysiders next week.

"We have agreed a fee with Leeds for Lee Bowyer," a Liverpool spokesman
        confirmed.

"They have given us permission to talk with the player and that will happen in
the early part of next week."

New Leeds boss Terry Venables had clear-the-air talks with Bowyer after the
players reported back for training this week, but the Londoner - dogged by
disciplinary problems on and off the pitch last season - has stuck to his guns
and held out for a move.

Elland Road chairman Peter Ridsdale - who is intent on raising Ł15million
through outgoing transfers this summer - said: "Terry did have a chat with Lee,
but his agent called last night to say nothing had changed. Liverpool have made
an offer that's acceptable to us and the rest is now in Lee's hands.

"How quickly the deal goes through is now up to him and Liverpool to agree
personal terms and go through the medical.

"He only had a year to go on his contract and something had to be done.
Obviously we don't want to lose Lee, but he's made his decision not to sign a
        new contract."

Bowyer's relationship with Leeds was ruined beyond repair last season due to
the fall-out from the player's much-publicised court case.

He was cleared of all charges relating to a city centre assault on an Asian
student but Leeds - who had backed Bowyer throughout - fined him four weeks'
wages for 'breaching the club's code of conduct'.

Bowyer intially refused to accept the punishment and was placed on the transfer
list, and there followed a public war of words with Ridsdale and former boss
David O'Leary which ultimately, and inevitably, led to his departure.
