BitTorrent
BitTorrent is a file sharing protocol for downloading files that allows
everyone who is downloading a file to share parts of the file with other
people who are downloading the same file. This means that while you are
downloading the software, you will get some pieces directly from Xandros and
some pieces from other users. Similarly, other users may get some pieces from
you. This helps to reduce the total bandwidth that Xandros has to pay for and
allows us to continue providing this download at no charge.
To download using the BitTorrent protocol, you need to download the software
(BitTornado or Azureus) and install it on your computer.
If you are behind a firewall, you need to open ports in your firewall in
order to share file pieces with other users. The more ports you open, the
more users you can share file pieces with. We suggest you open at least one
port (6881) and, if you can, open ports 6881-6889.
Once you have completed the download, leave the BitTorrent software open so
that others can share the software from your system. Also, you can restart
the sharing process again by clicking the download link and saving the file
to the same location as when you first downloaded the file.
