Grand Synagogue in Petah Tikva sprayed with swastikas

Worshippers arriving Thursday at the Grand Synagogue in Petah Tikva found it
desecrated with swastika graffiti on its walls and on prayer books. This is
not the first time the synagogue has been desecrated.

Police are investigating several options, including the possibility that the
vandalism was carried out by satan worshippers.

The synagogue's congregation left without praying Thursday, saying that the
swastikas had offended them and that it was impossible for them to worship
while looking at the Nazi emblem.

The chairman of the synagogue board, Avraham Dolberg, said vandals had broken
in overnight and sprayed the emblem across all the walls and on the holy ark.

"We entered the synagogue at 4.30 A.M. and witnessed horror, horror," he
said. "People were standing there crying. They haven't witnessed such a thing
in their lives: A synagogue sprayed on all sides, on all walls. There is not
a single wall left without a swastika," he said.

Dolberg said the vandals also attacked the Torah scroll. He said the
synagogue has been vandalized several times in the past few months, mainly by
children, but the vandalism had intensified over the past two months to the
extent that human excrement was found next to the holy ark.

Police have not arrested any suspects in that case.
