The Very Best Of

07.02.03, 19:38
Complete Stone Roses" ('Fools Gold 9,53min.), poza tym we
wkładce płyty można przeczytać fantastyczny artykuł o zespole i
obejrzeć kilka dziełek sztuki Johna Squire'a. To niby nic
takiego, ale fajne...

Poza tym brakuje mi tu kilku piosenek, ale to chyba właśnie te
      były faktycznie przełomowe...

You're an English person, I'd like to know what it's like for you when they
keep releasing Stone Roses cds in the UK. Do you even care? Do people care? Do
17-year-olds discover and buy them and claim the Roses have changed their
      music view forever?wink)

        Callin' All and Madee1,
it wasn't until a couple of years after the release of THAT album that I got
into the Stone Roses, for me there was more interesting music at the time, but
when the time came for me to get into the, it was massive hearing. The
Madchester scene spawned many monsters, some of which are scarily reforming on
uk tours...but the Roses are timeless, THAT album is waiting for everybody and
should always be first listening, not the damn best of's, you only need two
albums of theirs, the first, and the b-sides collection Turns Into Stone,
forget the c-sides collection that was the Second Coming. As for the rest, the
only people to be blamed is Silvertone record label, they've been trying to
milk every penny out of the band after getting their offices famously trashed
by them. No one over here cares for the re-releases and compilation packages,
as should no one anywhere, download the songs you want not on the two above
recommendations and rip off the record labels as if not my friends, it's them
        ripping you off.

I have to disagree. 'Second Coming' is great, although listening to it for the
first time was a bit of a disappointment. Of course it's obvious that it's not
as good as 'The Stone Roses', but there are some fantastic songs on it as well.
For me, there are maybe two or three tracks on the album that could've been
thrown away, the rest is brilliant.

But am guessing people still do buy this compilation there? I know it's
totally different music reality you've got there but i am hoping people will
notice this record here and someone will make a purchase... Sometimes it feels
like only 10 or 15 people in Poland have heard of the Roses, i don't blame
them cause how are they to know about them? Would be great though if this
record could turn that around, but i'm probably just being naive...

            Callin' Madee1,
people over here never brought the Best Of The Stone Roses, the media love
them, but the reviews for the compilations have been very weak, talking about
the record companies and the post members activities since the downfall. All
these remixes that appeared as well just never made an impact with the public,
is anything all these compilations are ruining the Roses reputation. The first
album to me, is perfect, the tracklisting is heaven sent, to pick tracks from
it and mix it with other weaker tracks from later days spoils it. The Stone
Roses was their best of album, they weren't a band to compile, they weren't
a 'singles' band where you can pick the hits and leave the rest, the rest was
the best! the single version of I Am The Resurrection was awful, I don't know
            if you've heard it?
The Best Of / Greatest Hits trend of the nineties over here in the UK has
ruined so much of many bands reputations, they always seem to get it wrong...is
there anyone who can prove that point wrong?

              Dear Marbled
I am not arguing your point, I agree that no compilation can be better than
that first album. I'm just thinking that since yet another one of them has
been released, I wouldn't mind if someone over here discovered Roses through
it. Sure, it's not the same as listening to the first album for the first
time, but how many of us have been this lucky?... Even you said it took you a
              coupla years... And you're there!

                Callin' Madee1,
my main point was my disagreement with compilation albums altogether, no matter
the artist. As introductions to bands, I'll accept they have there benefits,
but being a music lover, my frustration grows at people who buy those albums
and stop there in their listening to that band! Bands spend a fortune on studio
bills and drug dealers to get an album together, lots (sometimes!) of work goes
into artwork, tracklisting selection..all to make that work, then for some
Armani suited fool behind a desk to decide a compilation should be slapped
together, 90% of the time against the will of the bands themselves.
Compilations are for people who buy 3 cds a year, the David Gray market! Don't
do it! ask on music forums like this, get your recommendations here for what is
the best album to buy from a band.

Wersje z TCSR to zbrodnia, szczególnie I Am The Resurrection i wspomniany Fools
      Gold to zupełnie inne utwory.
A mi brakuje z tych ulubionych Sugar Spun Sister, Shoot You Down, Mersey
Paradise, Driving South, How Do You Sleep i Tightrope, tak na pierwszy rzut
oka. No bo już o trochę mniej znanych The Sun Still Shines czy Where Angels
Play to nie śmiem marzyć... smile) Za to Breaking Into Heaven, What The World Is
Waiting For a może i Begging You mogli sobie darować, tak sądzę.
No ale i tak fajna rzecz, ta składanka... smile)

Zawsze byli genialni- tę płytę trzeba po prostu mieć, bo jest
perfekcyjnym zapisem wielkości The Stone Roses. A must have dla
      każdego muzycznego maniaka i znawcy.
