Oasis - The Lost Tapes

22.06.03, 19:22
I came across them today while downloading something completely different and
I never knew of their existence. I searched around the net a while and found
some details of the tracks..
See The Sun
Must Be The Music
Better Let You Know
Snakebite
Rock 'n' Roll Star
Bring It On
Strange Thing
Fade Away
Columbia
Take Me (live)
Must Be The Music (live)
Life In Vain
I Will Show You (live)
Better Let You Know (live)
Take Me
Colour My Life

It is really interesting, Liam's voice more Ian Brown the Lydon as he moved
his style towards and the guitar work palys very close to the Roses
influence, too close at times, but shows an ability I never saw Noel work
with much after. While the lyrics at times show a very lazy use of words it's
entertaining no less. Not gold maybe, but definitely fun smile)

I love every single track from this list smile And agree with you that the Roses
influences are clear (especially Liam's way of singing and Tony's drumming) smile
An interesting thing is a fact, that "Take Me" was written by Liam and
Bonehead, not Noel, and was one of four tracks that were played by the band on
their first gig with Noel (the rest was "Better Let You Know" - which is a
cover of an acid-house song, "Columbia" and probably "Life In Vain").
Anyway, there are some really great songs there. Much of them deserved to be
properly recorded and released, what happened only to 4 of them... sad(

It really sounds like a band on these recordings, as opposed to a track at a
time band, almost like they're jamming at times smile) So I guess the song you
mentioned being wrote by Liam and Bonehead must have been from the Rain days?
did they write any others?? I was pleased to hear some strong drumming and
basslines, which I thought lessened as that line up moved on. When I saw Oasis
on the Shakermaker tour Bonehead played a lot of the lead guitar, I wonder how
much of it is his on these? I'm glad they grew out of their heavy Roses roots
and developed more of an Oasis sound, but Ilhan I agree it seems a shame a lot
of these tracks never made it to be b-sides or even developed to make the
album. What do you know of to be the rarest Oasis track??

Well, no... smile Liam was never a member of The Rain. When he joined the band
(after Bonehead, Guigs and Tony sacked the singer, Chris Hutton), first thing
they did was changing their name to "Oasis" (probably because Liam
thought "Rain" was a shit namesmile). And then, probably (when there was still no
Noel in the band), they wrote "Take Me" (maybe autumn 1991...).

          > did they write any others??

I think yes. But I know nothing about them being released in any form smile))

Rain has to be one of the most used band names!! There's a new band called The
Rain Band I think, being championed by Noel ironically! and at the time when
Oasis were Rain there was a tight little Liverpudlian Band called Rain who
released a fantastic song called Lemonstone Desire, yeah how much more
            Beatlesesque can you get smile)

And yeah Rain is a pretty rubbish name smile

Well, most of the people think "Oasis" is rubbish too, but I like it smile

I can't say I really like name either smile Oasis, a big rubbish national sports
centre that stinks when you walk past it of all chlorine and floor bleach!
Lot's of great named bands came from Manchester, sorry but think Oasis wasn't
one. Stone Roses and Happy Mondays are great band names, enigmatic, mysterious,
fun, instantly identifiable as individuals. Oasis was a better name than The
Farm though smile and Northside, The High and those other small bands of the time,
including Digsy from the song's band Smaller!! smile
