Solidarity Monument in Berlin

19.06.09, 14:34
Of course we just must still complain. That’s our polish national
speciality. “We can complain that the Germans have put up a monument
to Solidarity only now rather than, say, ten years ago.”. Of course,
and 10 years ago we would say “why not, say, in 1991?” and so
on. “We can complain that Chancellor Merkel, didn't speak at the
unveiling ceremony”. And the Ban-Ki-Moon form UN either.

How big is this monument? 2x3 m? Why not 20x30? And by 20x30 we
would say “why not 1000x1000 miles?”. An of course no matter what
will happen in Berlin, rock concert or football game in 2009, we
will still, in the year of 70th WWII anniversary, each time say what
happened there in 1933, why not still 1833 or 1233? Yes, history is
important (too), but if I will go to Germany to buy a car like
Porsche should I start my conversation with the seller in Berlin
with words “Gute tag I will buy a Porsche by you but firstly, lets
talk little bit about the well known year 1933”. That’s ridiculous
attitude, isn’t it?

He, he. There was such a film with Fronczewski - "Consul", where, in
the deep PRL, Austrian Consul asks some voivode what could he do for
the city; empty shelves in shops, in hospitals lack of tampons and
the socialist idiot says "you know, we have so many different needs…
it may be a monument!"

We have enough monuments in Poland and now we have to go with them
abroad. And I thought that we could have better built with the
Germans a new highway from Szczecin to Gdansk and so memorized the
strikes on the coast, but a highway there is not even planning on
Euro2012.
