"Against the backdrop of Dunhill House, Dunhill’s new flagship store
and men’s spa in London’s Mayfair , the P&G-owned brand launched a
new fragrance, designed to be the perfect accessory for the 21 st
century gentlemen.
In keeping with the brand’s codes, dunhill Black is described as the
essence of a gentleman.
The fragrance opens with a green nettle accord, resting on a heart
of transparent jasmine and lavender. The base features notes of
suede accord, gaiac wood and cedar. The combination of nettle and
suede not only presents an olfactory contrast, said P&G fragrance
scientist Will Andrews, it also plays with emotional
contrasts. “Nettles have the potential to sting if they aren’t
approached with care. Suede, on the other hand, is yielding and
tactile. The result is modern seduction.”
Andrews added that the fragrance is very English, with the nettle
note in particular reminding me of childhood games.
The masculine, square bottle has dramatic cut-ins on the base to
create different shapes from different angles. The carton is black,
with beams of light mimicking the headlights of a sports car.
Fittingly, the advertising image shows house model, actor Henry
Cavill embracing a woman on Waterloo Bridge, with a Bentley car in
the background.
The fragrance launches in the UK on 23 November, priced £23 for a
30ml edt, £32 for 50ml and £42 for 100ml."
