zwierz.alpuhary Re: How Russians view Poles 29.08.05, 02:00 Gazeta Wyborcza also wrote about it wiadomosci.gazeta.pl/wiadomosci/1,53600,2890215.html on one hand it is positive. On the other hand it seems that Russians don't know anything about the contemporary, today's Poland. When asked about the famous Poles and things they know about Poland, they mention names of Polish actors, movies and companies from the 1960-70 years. I'd like to know what the hell are they doing in the cultural section of Polish embassy in Moscow, having holidays? Odpowiedz Link
mishuk Re: How Russians view Poles 29.08.05, 02:13 Sorry to disapoint you but Moscow is not Russia ;) Personally it's shame on me to know only Anjey Waida, Bogdan Stupka and Stanislaw Lem, Genrikh Senkewich.(Sorry for spelling.) Is there anybody else in your country? :-p Odpowiedz Link
zwierz.alpuhary Re: How Russians view Poles 29.08.05, 10:46 there is a few completetly new generations of artists, politicians and intellectuals in Poland like Dorota Maslowska, Jerzy Pilch and Wojciech Kuczok (writers), Krzysztof Krauze or Wojtek Smarzowski(film directors), a lot of new actors.Believe me - when I see, who is associated with Poland in Russian minds, I realise that the Russians don't know anything about this, what is going on in Poland nowadays. These people mentioned by you are already a history, they are "retired" celebrities, they were famous 30 years ago, when they were having tournee's in USSR. PS: Henryk (in Russian it can be Genrik:) Sienkiewicz is of course a legend, but he died about 100 years ago, I hope you know it?;) Odpowiedz Link
mishuk Re: How Russians view Poles 30.08.05, 02:34 True, I don't know anyhing about modern Polish intellectual elite. What would you propose me to start with? What books / movies do Poles like? P.S. Yeah, it's pity that Henryk Sienkiewicz is dead by now. He wrote such cool things. ;) Odpowiedz Link
zwierz.alpuhary Re: How Russians view Poles 30.08.05, 14:18 gee that's a difficult task, I wolud have to think a few minutes. First of all I recommend you the film "Wesele" ("Wedding") by Wojtek Smarzowski, which was one of the most popular and awarded films in Poland; maybe also "Warszawa" ("Warsaw") by Dariusz Gajewski, also a very good and awarded movie, both films show much about Polish reality, about life in Poland Writers - Kuczok and Maslowska, one of the most popular writers od new generation, are coming soon to Moscow. I don't read much polish books, rather Central European I can recommend you i.e novels by Jerzy Pilch. Andrzej Stasiuk is great. Maybe Wiesław Myśliwski, maybe Libera, who else... There were dozens of new writers in Poland since the times that are remembered by the Russians, this gap is very wide. On the other hand Russian writers and russian culture is now simply adored and loved in Poland, Poles are reading a lot of Russian writers, Akunin, Pielevin, Solzehenitsyn and many others.
