Where would u look for a job in Katowice?

Hi guys,

Where should I look for a job in this lovely city????

I do not want to teach (been there, did not like it :-).
I am great with computers and sales (both trade and retail) have
worked for few years in Poland and then few in UK (always had a
contact with sales, marketing, negotitions, etc).
I'd say I am quite fluent in english, have no problems communicating.
Trouble is that I do not know which of the companies might
look for an employee with excellent English (proud to say even my
accent is really good:-) and again which of the ones that would,
would be a good employers to work for. Your help in that matter is
truly appreciated (even an idea - who deals with export or import,
etc).
At the moment I am responsible for customer
relations and sales locally (this really means south of Poland - from
Wroclaw to Cracow), with similar activities regarding our customers
from east and south Europe (Ukraine, Czech Republic and other
countries).
Since February I am also responsible for purchasing and contacts with
our suppliers from China and Germany. With every month I have more
and more tasks and responsibilities but no raise in my wages :-( That
is why I really would be interested in a new workplace! I wish to use
as much English in my job as possible as I do not want to lose
contact with "live" language.
Would Cracow be a better place to look for such a job? (but I live in
Katowice... :-(
If you can not recommend a company can you recommend a professional
job agency?

Because everyone in Poland is looking for a job "in polish" in shops,
banks, restaurants, trade companies, etc.... etc.... and me, well... I
am in Poland but I would very much like to work in English speaking environment and for that I do not have an idea.
To be honest writing my post in English was the first one (I thought...
one can never know...)

So... back to main subject - any ideas???? How 2 find such a job???

As much as I like all "English speaking" countries I will pass on
moving to one of them (+ I have to be in Poland now - will let u know
when it changes :)

Regarding good salary - I am a reasonable man... as long as I can pay
my bills, get my food, get my holidays from time 2 time I'm happy :)

So, back to main question... where should I look, please... suggest
somethin' or I'll die... food in my fridge is running short... winter
is coming....

I suggest to try within Customer Service structures in International Paper in
Cracow. There's fluent English required becasue your job is to work close (via
phone) with US (mostly) customers. However, as far as I know they might have
problems with too much people employed. Main disadvantage late shift work (to
fit US time-zones).

From your description it dose not sound as an "important" job or the
one with responsibilities... this means that I will not get better
money - but I will definitely have a look (even an interview does not
cost). Thanks!

Let me ask you guys different question (maybe there is no point in
looking in first place).

My current situation:

Luckily I do not work with a target above me (our product is way to
specific for that), but that is what I do:

- find new customers, convince them that product is The Best
- take care of existing customers
- make sure that people who are paying for product and the ones that
are suggesting the product (in their projects) are happy with us
- prepare offers
- travel (with small, shitty company car) from K-ce to Cracow, to
Wroclaw, Opole, etc.
- make sure all our clients from abroad have all the informations
they need and products on time (via e-mail or phone)
- translate all documents (from or to English)that company gets or
sends
- make sure our suppliers from Germany or Chine are not "f...ing up"
anything
- negotiate prices with suppliers
- negotiate prices wit customers
- check on late payments
- be on the (available) phone 24/7
- explain to your boss/owner that our suppliers in China don't employ
"engineers" in polish meaning of this word -> so it is not easy to
check on quality over the phone with the other side hardly speaking
English... and me just talking to them and sending new technical
diagrams will not really help (read: it is not my fault that they f.
up if I can not go there, even once in a while).

How much should I earn? (in a normal or good company that I am
currently looking for). I can do all that (and more with proper
retail experience from UK - but... I have this strange feeling at the
back of my head...that I am not a bit underpaid but A LOT!)

Please, how much (according to you) should be transferred to my
account every month (be realistic). By the way company is doing
great!!!

Your experience looks really nice, but u this case your salary would depend
mostly on how large company you work for. On one hand, you're orchestra-man -
doing everything small company would need from salesman/procurement officer,
but... on the other hand, such small company usually can't afford to pay well.
Big company deales wit way more sophisticated purchasing/sales processes you
havent't probably experienced in small enterprise, which means that you're not
that much worth for it - so, don't expect innourmous salary. In my opinion,,
with your experienc, in middle-size company in Cracow you'd get circa 4-6 000PLN
taxable salary (not on manaerial possition).

Ok, I do accept that and you're not far off.
Company (with few regional branches and factory) employs approx. 150
people. And you are right about buying/selling process it is not that sophisticated (but dues the job). On the other hand... "Big company
with more advanced purchasing/selling process" It is just a process
and a way of doing things... not a value of and employee in it
self... (created to help and improve quality of work) If "their"
people are using it, it means it can be learned :-)

Going back to experience.
I have an additional 5 years of experience in a similar company (as
regional manager) and additional 6 years, in a UK equivalent to one
of our DIY networks of shops "from Zero to Hero" :-) (from a sales
assistant to branch manager). Again I was paid to run to whole show -
purchasing, selling, displays, suppliers, customers, etc.

And, yes, looking at your propositions I am underpaid :-( This means
I need to keep looking... my new job "is out there..." :-)

teoretycznie dopuszczalne ale w praktyce kto tak pisze?), zdanie

Raz, ze bledy nie razace (jesli juz cos ma razic, to raczej polska
konstrukcja wypowiedzi), a dwa ze on napisal post a nie podanie o
prace.

Sam chetnie bym sie dowiedzial jak to teraz wyglada, bo wlasnie w
Katowicach i okolicach kiedys szukalem pracy gdzie chcialem
wykorzystac moj angielski (z ta roznica ze po powrocie z USA i bylo
to pare lat temu, przed wejsciem do Unii) i niestety kompletnie
bezskutecznie.
Az zal chwytal gdy odchodzilem z kwitkiem a zaraz pozniej slyszalem
w mediach, ze brakuje ludzi z jezykami. Albo w banku panienke, ktora
produkowala sie tak zalosnym angielskim, ze nie wiem czemu czy nie
powinna miec zakazu rozmowy przez telefon.
Oczywiscie kadry w tymze banku z usmiechem: "Nie, nie przyjmujemy
ludzi bez doswiadczenia.. My juz mamy swoich specjalistow. Ale
prosze zostawic CV".
Jak tu nie wyc do ksiezyca? :)

My point exactly... :-(

I know I could go to any English school and they would be thrilled to
hire me but as I do not have a proper education as an English teacher
(no to mention I don't want to do it) I will not ask someone to pay
me for teaching - it would not be fair.

First of all if you would be kind enough as to read (carefully) my
first post you would find that my ability to communicate in English is
not The Only Thing I know or Can Do (I do not suppose you expect me to
publish my full CV here??? card no with pin as well??? - no probs :-)
I do have an experience (quite big I would say) but I can not find any
ads about job like this... and well... I don't recognize name of
companies... I thought you might suggest ("try here or there they are
trading with China or UK or something").
Secondly, I thought that writing in English might not be such a bad
idea...(this part will be clear in few days :-)
And as my last point... looking through some posts on this forum... at
least I know for whom I do NOT want to work ;-)

Ps. If you are a head hunter: Looking for experienced sales person? Is
your company expanding to UK? Or maybe you need someone to check on

Exactly...
Not to mention that when I check my e-mails nowadays (half from China
half from other places), all in something that looks like English...
I really star to consider myself as native speaker (check though
google posts of British and Irish citizens trying to find a job in
Poland - I'd say twice as many mistakes :-) + I don't think they will
find anything (don't speak Polish and most of them are ex actors,
witers, etc... with polish girlfriends).

Well... 2morrow another day of searching (right after I get back from
Wroclaw)...

Well I did not expected companies fighting over a chance of interview
with me (and I still don't). I am not asking who is recruiting, where
are vacancies, etc....

I am only asking about the names of companies that would have a use
for a person like me (do not worry about the rest - I can take care
of it :-) but I need to know where to look first or how, as I wrote
Addeco is not really this kind of agency....

Don't tell me there is not a single company doing business in English
or having English speaking customers/suppliers.

And about this ticket... trust me I do not need a free ride :-)

najmniej jeden obcy znac dobrze aby zaczac szukac pracy.
Takie sa powszechne wymagania. Jezeli sie nie zna zadnego

Oh yes, you were my fizzy friend :-). There is quite few of us and it
is really not that bad... (since we are in Poland: of course it could
be way better!!!).
But seriously... we are lucky to have a proper motorway (A4 - it took
me only 11h of driving to get to Snoghoj in Denmark few weeks ago -
and I was not going over speed limits), it is quite close to
Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany (Austria and Italy are quite close
to), airport is not to bad...

Now I need to find a decent workplace and I'm settled :-)
