How do you cope with everyday stress?

30.05.06, 14:31
Life, in generall, is quite stressing wink I wonder, what do you do to
minimalise tension?
I used to eat chocolate wink But I've found more favourable solution
(especially for my shape). I ride a bike. There's nothing more pleasure than
riding through awakening after too long winter forest.
I would like to join a joga classes, but it seems to be more expencive. But
mabye, in the nearest future I could afford it.
I read books as well. And sometimes smoke, but hope to quit it.

I try not to watch too much tv wink

I take photos. Although the stress of having so little disk space on my
      computer all the time,
      does annoy mesmile

So back to my Olympus OM30. Which is time consuming but full of surprises.

I cuddle my wife and kids.
Last night was so pleasant - I watched The Merchant of Venice on satellite. Al
Pacino was excellent as Shylock. My wife and I were sat on the rug in front of
the fire (yes, a real one), drinking a bottle of red wine and having the
        occasional coffee.
        The kids were asleep.
I was the happiest hubby in the world.
        No stress.

          Good question...

I swear a lot more in traffic than I do elsewhere... I guess it's a way of relaxing but obviously I only do it when alone in the car...

Having sex is another way to relax too smile

I unfortunately still opt for the chocolate (or just food in general if there's
a lack of chocolate around the house).

            OR

I cook (I love cooking), but it usually ends the same as above sad

And then there's always the rabbit to talk to - never answers back, always
happy with a leaf or two of dandelion freshly picked from the lawn.

(i meant to say, to resolve the problem of too many photos on my laptop)... to
resolve stress ; sex, drugs and alcohol (though these days no drugs and not
much alcohol)... and reading books, sometimes cooking, and drinking tea with a
          biscuit or something...

Well, if there is too much of stress, I snap big time. My tactless and thick-
skinned posts are the best example of that. Please, accept my apology: you esk
      and you Bluteau. smilesmilesmile

A week ago we had a kid smash part of our outside garage wall and door while
backing up. The damage is considerable and the parents are in no rush to fix
the problem. The garage door opener isn't working and with both of us in and
out all the time, it gave us a headache the size of the Liberty Bell. Taking it
small claims will only drag the whole thing indefinitely. Of course, the kid
says he hasn't done anything but we have reliable eye witnesses. His 4X4
sustained a minimal damage and it's easy for him to downplay the whole thing.

Some stuff is already fixed and we will hang on to the receipts no matter how
long it's gonna take for the courts to settle this.

OK. No sooner did we get everything done when it pissed rain for two days and
the sundeck off the second floor bedroom flooded. Leaked all over the garage
and down the wall where our washer and dryer is. Luckily, no water got into the
      rest of the house.
Hence, a new project leaped out like a Phoenix soaring to the sun. We just re-
did that whole deck two years ago with what we thought to be a sound solution
to the flooding issue. NOT! That's the fourth or fifth time that deck has
turned into a swimming pool. We'll have to generate drawings and get a building
permit to alter the decks appearance altogether.
Oh joy! We have to deal with the pinheads at "Shitty" Hall. They'll probably
make us get an Engineers seal because a roof structure is being altered.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. I wouldn't be surprised if the first nail wasn't hammered until
2012. They are not known for speed.

The walls in my house have the imprints of my forehead all over the place! I
guess that would explain my headache...

The last thing I need to do is get on the computer and vent my anger.

Not that's it's ANY excuse but that sure was not a good idea.

      Please, understand. I truly apologize.

      kylie

PS. Dave I need some of your prayers big time. The chocolate thingy doesn't
      work for me!

      Apology once again!

        Lord God, our heavenly Father,

I would pray that Thou wilt glorify Thy name and have mercy on Kylie. Send her
wisdom and inner strength to understand that the imperfections we all have in
our lives and the stresses and strains of our sojourn in this sinful world are
put there to make us long all the more for Thine Heaven.

Thy servant David said "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I also
seek after, that I may dwell within the House of the LORD all the days of my
life, to gaze upon thebeauty of the LORD and to enquire at His temple. Lord,
may we be able, when things go wrong, to understand that "the beloved of the
LORD shall dwell in safety by Him", as it saith in the Book of Deuteronomy, and
that we are to prefer to abide with God above our chiefest joy.

Even as Thy servant Isaiah wrote that "they that wait upon the LORD shall renew
their strength", may Kylie, and all of this Group who are now praying to Thee,
be given the grace to wait on Thee, to inquire of Thee, to gaze at Thy beauty,
to take comfort in Thine eternal prmises to all who believe on Jesus for their
salvation, to receive abundantly of Thy comforting Spirit, and to have wisdom
from the solace of Thy Word.

We ask that Thou wilt move the consciences of the family of the youth who
damaged Kylie's door. May they be made by Thee to forbear to bring up their son
in an unconscionable fashion. watch over and enable a speedy alleviation of the
material ills of Kylie, reminding her the while that in any event, the earth
and all that is in it is as nothing, a mere bauble, to what awaits in Heaven.
        There is no frustration there.

Thou art a mighty, all-wise and glorious GOd, Thou holdest us in Thine hand
even when we know it not. To thee and thee alone, Father Son and Holy Spirit,
be glory dominion and blessing and power, in Jesus' precious Name.

        Amen.

          Thank you, Dave.

That's a beautiful prayer (I printed it out for myself!)
And thank you for helping esk with her job. I know you got a heart of gold and
whenever you can, you always reach out to help others. God Bless you for that
          too, Dave.

I just napped (old age) after meditating for half an hour. I am so burned out.

          Thank you again, Dave.

          Kylie,

I'm sorry to hear all that. Hope it all works out well for you.
It's also annoying, when the people who should be helping you out take ages to

I should get one of those rabbit things. How high can they jump?

The miniture rabbits - not very high. We let ours out in the garden yesterday
afternoon. Quite fast though! Eventually we decided to lock him up in
            our "Blue Peter" sunken garden.
He's ever so cute and very easy to look after. Much more character than the
            average rodent.
Original name for him - "Bunny".

Thanks Maggie smilesmile I appreciate that.

I don't think I am made for Polish Urzedy. My temper is already on a short fuse
and when the fuse burns out,it can only get worse: bad words, painful noogies,
hair pulling, a couple of headlocks and a little choking to keep these guys in
            line.

I would be carried out in handcuffs. Would you come and visit me?

Riding my mountain bike through some forest trails is my favorite stress
reduction activity. I also enjoy swimming at a very nice heated indoor swimming
complex in the small city of Gorlice during the cold season. In the summer, I
take a dip into the Dunajec River near Zakliczyn.

as already mentioned somewhere above, chocolate but not too much as I
constantly struggle to control these urges. There is also wine, and
sports....anything goes...jogging, cycling, swimming, and sailing, but best of
all is tango! OK... so maybe best of all are comedies. Nothing beats lots of
      laughter!

      Interesting findings:

Employers, who have long worried about absenteeism among their employees,
should also be concerned about “presenteeism”. “In Canada, employees put work
first – before family and friends,” says the report by Desjardins Financial
Security. ”Presenteeism”, the feeling that you must show up for work even you
are too sick to be there, is a main factor in employee stress and
distraction.” “The costs and effects on people and companies are tremendous.”
For companies, the results are productivity losses. For employees, the cost is
to their personal relationships, as well as increased stress. Adding to the
stress of employees, and further undermining the balance between their work and
personal lives are the advances in technology. ”Wireless technology and
laptops, which were designed to help simplify life, have in fact opened the
door to work in the home or cottage,” survey says. Of the nearly two-thirds of
Canadian workers who carry wireless devices and laptops, 83 per cent said this
technology has either increased or maintained their level of stress.

I'm guilty of laptop-addiction myself... The trick, I heard, is to only check
your emails a few times a day instead of having your mailbox open at all times
and reading each email as it comes in. This way you focus on the tasks at hand
and not get distracted with each new message.
