The right-wing Christian Coalition founded by Mr Pat Robertson gave a call
for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez but it provoked no
strong official condemnation.
He said on a popular TV show that the US government should take out Mr Chavez
which would be cheaper than a war.
Of course, the defence and state departments distanced themselves from
a "private citizen's view". But in response to questions, a state department
spokesman would not call Mr Robertson a "terrorist". The Bush administration
expressed no shock or anger.
