Jeff Buckley

03.06.03, 13:54
Hard to believe the voice of an angel recently had the anniversary of his
passing (May 29th), but as in his words..Eternal Life. I remember being ill
and unable to leave the house for a while around the release of the Grace
album, and having no money, swapped my bass guitar for a friend to go and buy
me a copy of it on vinyl. But perhaps his most amazing recordings were the
ones he released on an e.p. 'Live At Sin-E', hard to find and expensive now
too, but I just read on the N.M.E. website that a full double album of
recordings from these sessions is to soon be released. May it never be our
last goodbye... www.nme.com/news/105193.htm

I think it's the only artist whose work can be re-sold and re-packeged and I won't mind. It's never too much of Jeff. My friend claimed that the songs chosen for "Sketches..." weren't his best ones. Also the Grace EP's were a bit disappointing. I hope these from 'CAFE DAYS - LIVE AT SIN-E' are more interesting and more unknown material is there [although I liiiike Sketches smile))]

        Callin' mellodi,
did you hear the Live At Sin-E ep?? Jeff's interpretation of the Van Morrison
song The Way Young Lovers Do?? it's about 10 minutes long and is mind blowing,
just him and his electric guitar acting as the dancer to this perfect operatic,
rock, true passionate vocal performance which hits one of the most perfect
notes ever on record smile) thankfully it is also included on this forthcoming ep.
It was said he was never truly happy with the Sketches recordings and was
joyous on that fateful day about the forthcoming studio work he was to do with
a producer he admired. I saw a documentary on tv a year back and many of his
friends were telling of so many musical directions he was wanting to go in, to
equally offend and delight his devoted audience.
Was just two days ago I came across a Jeff Buckley cd I had never heard of,
maybe you have, I can't recall the name, but it was all recordings he did and
demos from the Grace album, all recorded and co-written with the guy who co-
wrote Mojo Pin, it was expensive so I need to save for it! But it had an ever
eclectic collection of covers that he always seemed to bless smile)

Gary Lucas, that's who it was recorded with, an ex Captain Beefheart guitarist

No I haven't - it seems that I missed on a lot of good stuff. I try to catch up when the new double album comes out.

Obviously Sketches would have looked totally different had Jeff been around to finish them. I heard that his mother who chosed most of the tracks for it was assisted by Jeff's friend - Chris Cornell smile))
I haven't heard the record with Gary Lucas. I know it was released but I read very critical reviews - not sure if the album is any good. However I would love to get my hands on this record. Maybe some day, some way, somehow... wink))))

The album does look like a cash in on his name, but like you say if it has Jeff
on it, it will has an unmistakable quality. Do you download music at all? You
could get hold of the Sin-E ep from Kazaa or somewhere, I must look later to
see if any of the Gary Lucas things are up there smile Ooooh Hallelujah now
            playing on cd smile))

Sure I download music [but only to delete after 24H wink))))] and I thought about looking for the G.Lucas cd only didn't get round to it hoping I may get it legally somehow. Maybe I should stop dreaming and start doing something about it. I suppose Soulseek or DC would be the best for it - more reliable than Kazaa. If you don't know them try them - the best software for downloading music smile))

Someone is having a "good night" smile))))

Please Mellodi, you really have to download the live at Sin-E ep!! if you
haven't heard it you'll be mesmerized! My French is no good, but he does a song
with French title, reminds me of funfair music the way he plays the guitar. And
I am definitely going to look at these sites you mentioned. Yes I'm having a
                Grace night smile)))

I promise I will. You convinced me right away just by writing about the 10 minute song smile I am so sorry for my laziness but I try to mend my wicked ways smile))))

                  Soulseek - www.slsk.org/
                  Direct Connect ++ - dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/
You have to install them just like Kazaa but they are very easy to use. In case of questions you can mail me, read forums on their websites or just set up a new thread here. I'm sure you will like them - all music lovers do smile))

That's a great idea - may have to copy it wink)))

                    Callin' mellodi,
I tried the SoulSeek you recommended and it's fantastic, I have found so so
much that I've struggled for ages to find, lots of rare live stuff from Jeff,
video footage too smile) the searches are much more thorough than Kazaa, the whole
lay out is much more user friendly, but I have one difficulty with it
currently, when I set it to share files, the scan begins and the program locks
up, this has happened a few times, so am currently unable to share what I
have sad( maybe this is because my hard drive is absolutely near splitting
full of mp3's I must archive off!
Thanks again for this, I've been spreading it about too to other music
                    downloaders smile)
And the Grace nice lead into a Grace morning too! smile)
                    • mellodi Re: SoulSeek 05.06.03, 21:16
To search even better try Wishlist - it searches for files you put there every hour or so by itself and lets you know when it finds it. It's the best feature ever. Scannig shared files may take some time - it depends on how much you share, on the speed of your computer etc. While scannig it may appear that the computer froze or the Soulseek hang but you should give it some time - maybe after 15 minutes you should start worrying. Maybe try sharing few folders instead of your whole collection or let Soulseek scan few files than add few more, gradually. On my computer it sometimes took at most five minutes I think. The best advice I can give you is either wait or share less. You should share some files though cause Soulseek has the option to bann users and the most common reason is when people don't share.
I am very happy that you found Soulseek so useful. Indeed it is a real goldmine and you can also chat with people - for example to ask them about bootlegs or some rare files. Once you get to know Soulseek Kazaa will seem very shabby and poor. I hope you will be able to overcome the sharing problems and download lots of rare music smile)

A friend told me last night that the Live At Sin-e album had been released in
America (not sure if it has been elsewhere yet). I listened to several of the
tracks and they don't disappoint from the greatness of the initial E.P. and his
monologues are very comedic too smile) A must have for any Jeff Buckley fan and a
great introduction to the man, his influences and his humour.
