Powstaną nowe domy w żydowskich osiedlach na Zachodnim Brzegu

O budowie nowych 565 domów w trzech osiedlach na Zachodnim Brzegu zadecydował w
czwartek rząd Izraela. Decyzja ta jest sprzeczna z forsowaną przez USA "mapą
drogową" - planem pokojowym dla Bliskiego Wschodu. Plan ten zakłada m.in.
zamrożenie rozwoju żydowskiego osadnictwa na Terytoriach Okupowanych.

Wiec chcecie pokoju, czy nie chcecie.
Beszczelnosc ma swoje granice, nawet sojusznika olewacie.

The operation, which began in the early hours
Friday, is aimed at exposing and destroying
tunnels used to smuggle weapons from Egypt into
the Strip. Dozens of tanks, armored vehicles
and bulldozers accompanied by helicopters swept
into the southern Strip and assaulted the
refugee camps, which are home to more than
30,000 people.

The forces first cut off the electricity - by
destroying the generators providing power to
the camps' residents - as well as the telephone
lines and water supply. They imposed a curfew
and closure in the region. Then the bulldozers
isolated the area by piling earth and boulders
on the roads and the troops captured about 10
houses, posting snipers in them.

The invading tanks, armored vehicles and
helicopters opened heavy fire and shelling at
Palestinian militants, who fired back. The
houses that were near tunnels, according to the
IDF, were surrounded and soldiers raided them.
Palestinian sources said bulldozers destroyed
about 30 houses, flattening the land near the
border, and tore up greenhouses and irrigation
lines.

Eight-year-old Ibrahim Krinawi, whose home was
near one of the houses surrounded by the IDF,
and 12-year-old Sami Salah were killed. Four
armed Palestinians - Nader Abu Taha, 22;
Mohammed Abed Alwahab, 23; Mohammed Yunis, 28;
and Ala Mansur, 23 - were also killed, as well
as two teenagers, Mabruk Juda, 18, and Yihya
Sharif, 19. Their funerals were held in Rafah
yesterday and Friday.

The wounded included medical crews working in
the area. Initially, the IDF prevented the
ambulances from reaching the area, but later
allowed them to evacuate wounded people to a
makeshift clinic set up near the Abu Yusef
A-Najad Hospital in Rafah. The impromptu clinic
could only provide basic treatment. Palestinian
medical personnel kept calling on people to
donate blood.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a senior aide to Palestinian
Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat, called the
operation a "war crime and a human tragedy."

Since the beginning of the month, the IDF has
demolished dozens of houses in Rafah. Last
week, it destroyed hundreds of dunams of farm
land, including nurseries, greenhouses,
vegetable fields and fruit orchards.

IDF sources said, so far, three tunnels have
been found, one of which has been blown up. The
IDF is expected to complete the operation in
the next few days and leave the densely
populated Palestinian area, which may have
numerous militants among its residents and is
therefore considered extremely dangerous.
Southern Command sources said the forces are
still trying to locate two tunnels. They said
that, even after the operation is completed,
the IDF will continue invading Rafah to find
tunnels.

A military commander said the weapons smuggled
in from Egypt to Gaza eventually make their way
to the West Bank, so "we had no choice but to
strike deep against the tunnels."

Also over the weekend, the IDF tore down the
Kfar Urif home of Ahmed Safadi, the suicide
bomber who blew himself up in Tul Karm last
Thursday. An IDF soldier was critically wounded
in the bombing and another was lightly hurt.
