Useless RE teachers

22.05.06, 16:29
My family was talking at the dinner table, when suddenly my son piped up, "My
RE teacher said didn't know the answer to yet another question today!"
"Go on, son."
"Why is there being so much fuss being made about the Da Vinci Code?"

Wonderful teaching opportunity missed no. 494

On things to do with school - any ideas for presents to teachers which are not
      coffee or chocolate?

Taxpayers don't employ katechetki to teach, just to nod and say "Dobrze,
dobrze." My daughter attended RE (I don't know anyone in PL who goes to church,
but her mother's a sad, worthless hypocrite) and got "same szóstki", "straight
A's", for everything, same as all the other children, including for her
heretical drawing of Mary on the Cross.
The sooner these catechists get some first-hand experience of heaven, the
      better.

There's a very devout mother at our school who rams her religion down your
throat ... well, well, well - guess what?
As soon as she found out that dylsexics get extra exam time you couldn't see
her for the dust ... going off to the educational psychologist, little Jacek in
        tow.
Polan nau has the hiest raits of dylsexier in the wirld - nothing to do with
the tremendous rates of cheats per head of population.
Did you know Poland has been blacklisted for promotions by a leading
photographic products company for this very reason?

I didn't know that. Which one was it?

Don't know either, but it might explain why the mohair berets have been
            picketing warehouses.

I know how you feel, but remember we don't know how long this is archived, and
whether or not it will be traceable by your little girl when she is say
sixteen. Might just be worth thinking about that one. That having been said, I
        know just how you feel.

You should have used that drawing with the straight A on it to blackmail that
nun into providing you with favours.

          She knows what I think.
She knows that pani katechetka says you have to go to church and live according
to the Bible (but also worship paintings and statues), and she knows that
neither I nor her mother give a shit about what the Catholic Church says.
She also knows that it's her mother takes her once a year to church, took her
to get christened, was at her first and of course last communion and insists
that she has to be brainwashed by papists because everyone else is. And that if
her mother ever gets married, she's not going to be a virgin bride.
My daughter knows that I don't pretend to be superstitious, and that I don't
betray my ideals or sell my arse to the Vatican hierarchy in the name of cheap
          cowardly conformism.
          She's an intelligent girl.

          > You should have used that drawing with the straight A on it to blackmail that

I actually thought about saying, "Why not put it up on the wall, in the gallery
by the front door of the school where everyone can see it, since it's so good?".
But to get an A+ in RE all you have to do is spill some orange juice onto a
piece of paper and not strangle nuns.

I had a Scottish RE teacher.
            He had a beard.

I didn't have an RE teacher, but from what I've seen the average katechetka is
no stranger to facial hair either.

My Polish Re priest was a good man. I see him sometimes now and he is so old
                and frail...
I remember when he used to organise trips and summer holidays for the poorest
families. And I remember how he used to pinpoint the SB guys out to us, he
never beat about the bush and always used to throw them out of the church
                gardens.

He was a non confomist and to this day has much respect.

There are a lot of honest, hardworking decent priests who do a lot of good for
their communities, and I have a lot of respect for them even though I despise
                  the church as an institution.
And the fact that they are so attached to the everyday worldly problems of
their parishioners might explain why the good ones never get promoted and given
                  a big hat.

I went to a United Feromone church school (did I mis-spell something?) but my
RE was taught by a Roman Catholic whose middle name was Ignatius and who
concentrated on teaching us the basics of the CofE for our Christian education
(not indoctrination ...) as well as the basics of Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and
                    Sikhism.
He was very good, if somewhat humourless and probably half Spanish.

                      You misspelt "pheromone".

As in "How do you make a hormone? Don't pay her. How do you make a pheromone?
                      Don't pay his mummy!"

The URC killed English Presbyterianism, until some people resurrected a small
portion of it. I was involved in that movement a bit, as I was around at the
start of Cambridge Presbyterian Church, but I was only a student there, not a
permanent resident so that doesn't count as a full member.

                      > but my

                      > Sikhism.

That confirms everything I ever thought of the URC.

                      Calvin wept.

                      > He was very good, if somewhat humourless and probably half Spanish.

This must be a new meaning of the word "good" that I was not aware of
                      previously.

My sister once mentioned her new boyfriend to our Gran.
"Ha!" said Gran, presbyterianly, "A Catholic, I suppose?"

One of my RE teachers (actually, the subject was called MRE - moral & religious
education) in high-school was a feminist lesbian atheist (Waldo would love her).
She was hip, she was cool and she taught us about world religions and how to
tolerate others. She also taught us all the birds and the bees, about STDs and
how to avoid them, we had debates on the abortion issue, she got us involved in
Amnesty International, she gladly handed out condoms, much to the displeasure of
our parents. She was the one whose shoulder you could cry on when your boyfriend
dumped you, she was the one who would stick up for you when a tyrannical teacher
overstepped his jurisdiction or when the school administration treated you
unjustly. She was loved and hated by many.

I had a teacher like that too. she was fab. But they chucked her out after she
lost a bet and shaved her head.
