CAE or FCE?

IP: *.szczecin.cvx.ppp.tpnet.pl 27.08.02, 16:09
Hi?
Could any of you advise me which of the examinations I shall take: CAE or
FCE? I am 17 years old and I've been learning English for 6 years. At school
I am at pre-intermediate level but I find it too easy. When I was in England
on a course I was qualified for an advanced group ( I was astonished at it,
to be honest ). I want to take FCE so that I will be excused from matura if
I pass it, but I've come to the conclusion that CAE is more profitable in
the future. On the other hand I am not certain if my language skills are
sufficient for CAE. I'll grateful for any help

skip FCE, study a little bit more and sit for CAE. thats my advice, since
anyway you'll be taking both at the end. rgds.

      Hello!
I'm interested in CAE or FCE, too. What I can suggest is a link:
www.rzeczpospolita.pl/testy-ang/. You can find there tests that let you
      check your language skills.
      Hi!

      Heloł?
if you are in preintermediate better uczitsja more than chodźta z motyko na
słonce FC it's not a competition Żwirka i Muchomorka. A swoją drogą, gdzie Ty
chodzisz do szkoły, ze 17 lat i pre-intermediate?

I'm also 17 and I've been also studying english for 6 bloody years... I've
done the PET and managed to pass the FCE exam last year, and I want to
undertake the CAE this one. Anyway - what I'm trying to say is that if you
dind't take any previous Cambridge exams - in my opinion you should go for the
FCE first... ( just to gain some experience of how such an exam looks like )
Believe me - CAE is not a walk in a park field. It's a realy demanding exam -
even for people that had already achieved certain language skills... Try to
read more books and watch more telly - that should do it.
And remeber: your writing may be pretty good - but you can fail other parts of
the exam. Keep my words of wisdom ;) in your mind and I hope that you will make
      the wright decission.

      Jip

Hi, thanks for advice. Finally I've decided on FCE. I've already tried some
tests on CAE and that was rather difficult. I am wathing much TV in English
and I've already read many unabrideged books. As for "CAE guest" question, my
old-fashioned school provides very poor foreign languages education as we have
only 3 hours of English and 2 of German a week ( despite the fact that my
class specialises in the humanities )and I have to waste too much time on
learning needless subjects. Besides, many of my classmates find our book too
        difficult.

          > As for "CAE guest" question

Sorry I meant the question of "aaas".
By the way, I don't think that FCE is "konkurs Żwirka i Muchomorka" how you
have defined it ( you have cribbed that expression from "Idol", haven't you ).

By the way - ( to whom it's concerned ) M - is there any possibility to get
your e-mail address? I would be very grateful...

ABeCe = CAE - it was a failure of the server I guess that it somehow changed
            my nickname.
Fair enough as one person said that it is important to get familiar with the
structure of the exam, however you dont need to take any exams to do so. you
just need to focus on exactly these types of exercises they actually require
from you. There must be plenty of them on the net I suppose.

Of course going up the ledder is great, but still I would consider taking a
            challenge and trying CAE.
Anyway I wish you all the best.
            rgds.

But you know: I think it's better to get 'A' in FCE than 'C' or 'D' in CAE.
Certainly, gaining the CAE would be a great achievement...

      Hi there again!
There is another confusing problem I face. I went to a school of English for
a placement test and I was qualified for an advanced group so the interviewer
was very suprised at hearing I was going to take FCE. He tried to persuade me
to pass CAE. But I think I am not capable of taking CAE! Would you please tell
me what I shall do? I am so puzzled...
      • pawel78 Re: CAE or FCE? 09.09.02, 22:44
I think there really is no other way to make up your mind than to do some
tests. BUT (!!!!): if you feel uncapable of taking CAE right now, it does not
mean you will not be capable of taking and passing it after a year of learning.
Personally, I think it's better to take the challenge and aim for CAE. Doing
so, you will be forced to study and to expand your skills, and I think that's
what's the whole thing is all about. Besides, remember that taking each exam
costs, courses cost as well, so why take more exams if you can take fewer?
        Trzymaj się.

CAE demands a much bigger vocabulary and ADVANCED writing skills. These are the
main areas of difference between FCE and CAE. Visit www.world-
english.org and try out some of their grammar and vocabulary exercises. Surf
the net in English, watch BBC tv, listen to BBC radio and STUDY HARD. FCE is an
intermediate/upper intermediate exam, CAE and ADVANCED one. Both look cool on
      your CV.
