alas all suggested dictionaries are craaaappy
I tried 2 kinds of ocean fish I eat in Toronto: catfish (zebacz??) and grouper(??) and none was found.
I also tried some swear words - to no avail.

I will stick to and recommend:
www.dictionary.com
it's huge, reliable, fast but monolingual

There's a family of dictionaries.
Nice, legible layout and loads of examples of usage for almost every word. I've
never felt disappointed at the results of my search.
Sounds pretty like advert?
Well, it is :)
Sadly (or maybe not :)) it's only a monolingual dictionary.

True! Cambridge dictionaries online are absolutely thr top - and include
phrasal verbs dictionaries, idioms dictionaries et al. However, once we think
of monolingual dictionaries, one of my favourite is www.dictionary.com -
simple, nice and useful.
