morrissey v stipe

25.06.03, 13:08
I just read on NME about how when Michael Stipe saw The Smiths in 1985 and
was so hugely influenced by Morrisseys stage persona that he 'copied' him
adding his own flavour
www.nme.com/news/105400.htm
Am left wondering how things might have been if Michael hadn't been at that
gig. Two fascinating artists, but could Michael survive away from R.E.M, like
Morrissey, who has had varying degrees of success away from The Smiths.
I would like to see these two interviewing each other, the air would be magic
between them, I wonder if there would be any hints given away to the alleged
relationship they had?
Good to see so many old R.E.M songs in the set, a lot of Peter Buck's better
guitar work smile he seemed to resigned to being backing for Michael and just
stood at side of stage a while, a shadow of himself whilst session guitarists
helped boost the live sound, but not his early stage energy. Give him the
Rickenbacker and stand back smile)

Incredible idea - someone should make it real!!! Especially that both gentlemen have a lots of smart things to say and they know how to say them. I heard an interview with Morrissey on BBC - iiiiiimpressive!!! And the two of them would surely be astonishing!

Mellodi, you should try to find on SoulSeek an interview full documentary
called The Importance Of Being Morrissey, it's wonderful to watch him talk and
how his face entertains each sentence he speaks smile
I too would so love to see them interview each other, it would all be so
dramatically played up for the journalists! would be so funny, they would
probably stage it as one huge rumour festival between them!! smile)

I think he could be damn good if he chose to go solo (though I hope REM won't
      follow Smiths' path.

Ha ha - yes "alleged" is a good word. I remember Michael saying some time ago,
when he came back from LA: "everybody asked me about Morrissey as if we were
married for 8 years and I saw him only for 5 days".

I like that smile I read some rumours on the net about them, denials of them
seeing each other for years, but reports of them meeting frequently through the
same social Soho circle. The sad truth is a lot of the rumours probably come
from the queen of rumour spreading to get her name in the press Courtney Love,
so it's hard to be sure of anything to be true if she claims it!

I found out too, again denied (but aren't the most interesting things by
Morrissey denied or comically dismissed?!) that Found Found Found from the Kill
Uncle album was dedicated to Michael..
