As I always say: Hancock keeps it diverse. Never try to put him in a
box named with one word. If you heard "Possibilities" there is much
chance you were unsatisfied (especially if youre 1- a jazz purist, 2-
you're used to Hancocks music in general)
He appears significantly on about 50% of the tracks. The rest of
them place his piano so you can bearly enjoy it.As a slight addition
to all.I'm trying to understand the philosophy underlying this
album. I'm sure one exists - just look into H.H. past and you'll see
every chord, note, sound has a meaning in his previous work.
The only reason I can think of: He decided he wants to popularise
jazz. Who better to use as messengers than todays pop icons
(Christina Aguilera),living legends(Stevie Wonder) and rising stars
(Damien Rice). Many more, well and less established artists are
involved in this bullet with a hidden message as "Possibilities" is.
I think of this album as of a storybook for children. When you advise
a child to read it you know that in between these coloured pictures
there are good values placed. Hopefully your child will understand
and...learn.
This is maby just me making a big theory, but something tells me
many Herbie Hancock fans out there will agree with my thinking out
loud. medNG
