Hello, everyone,
Several decades ago my nation, Bulgaria, was subject to one of the most
disgusting defrauds of world public opinion. Three Bulgarian citizens were
accused of plotting to assasinate the Pope. One of them was brought to trial.
Later he was released due to "lack of evidence".
Now this person is a nervous wreck, and Bulgarians carry the label of pope-
killers.
Recently it was publicly admitted that Bulgarian involvement was only a
theory of some foreign intelligence services. However, the harm was done, and
it has affected, directly or indirectly, generations of Bulgarians.
Today there is another monstrous accusation against Bulgarian citizens. Five
hospital nurses have been accused of deliberately infecting more than 400
children with AIDS in a Libyan hospital where they were employed.
In a Libyan court trial that has been going on for more than 5 years, they
have been recently found guilty of that inhuman crime and sentenced to death
by firing squad. This was done regardless of evidence that they have been
systematically tortured to extort confession, and in spite of analysis
submitted to court by leading world AIDS experts, proving that infection was
due to poor hygiene and management in Libyan hospitals, and had started
before the Bulgarian nurses came to work there.
Libya has affirmed many times that it will ensure a just and fair trial.
Given this, Bulgaria has not interfered in any way so far except for
encouraging our citizens and helping the defence in court.
However, it seems that Libyan assurances have had only one purpose: to
distract our attention so that Libya could use the trial for solving its
domestic and foreign policy problems. Now we are compelled to act.
We, the citizens of Bulgaria, declare the following:
1. We will not agree to be labeled as a nation infecting children with AIDS
because of someone deciding to solve his own problems on our back.
2. We insist that the nurses be found not guilty and immediately released. We
do not accept the "lack of evidence" formula.
3. We feel compassion for the children who have been infected with AIDS and
their families. As a responsible member of the international community, our
nation has been supporting, and will continue to support, all international
actions aimed at fighting this plague of our time.
4. We insist that those whose actions or negligence have caused the infection
in the Libyan hospital, be brought to justice. We also insist that those who
have tortured our citizens be tried and punished. We are convinced that
letting the true criminals go unrevealed would create a dangerous precedent
of international scale.
5. We insist that those who have conceived and organized this
fraudulent "trial" be exposed and denounced by the international community.
We will not end up being the victims of the next major defraud of world
public opinion!
Neither will we agree to surrender Bulgarian citizens as hostages to
someone's interests!
The sentences are being appealed.
Please give us your vote of support, in any way you can!
I am bringing this to your attention in the name of my nation,
FREEDOM FOR BULGARIAN MEDICS IN LIBYA
The facts:
Six Bulgarian medics were sentenced to death by firing squad in Libya on 6th
of May for infecting patients with the HIV virus after a trial described by
the EU as flawed.
Libyan police arrested the Bulgarians in February 1999. They were in prison
until September 2002, when a high tribunal in the Libyan capital, Tripoli,
acquitted them of conspiracy charges and handed the case over to an ordinary
criminal court. They were then placed under house arrest in Tripoli until
being detained again when their trial recommenced in the eastern city of
Benghazi in September.
An experts' poor hygiene at the Benghazi hospital likely led to the
contamination, and estimated it happened in 1997 - more than a year before
the Bulgarians were hired to work there. But a commission of court-appointed
Libyan doctors rejected the Western expert's testimony and said the
Bulgarians wilfully infected the children with the virus through blood
transfusions.
The truth:
We all know they are innocent! Even YOU know it ! Do something! These people
have devoted their lifes to save and help people, not KILL them ! Our
Bulgarian government is too weak to do ANYTHING! We have not even responded
to the declaration about "BIOTERRORISM". Our politicians are silent... What
about YOU?
