Actually, what happens is you reduce software to symbol manipulation, squeezing
the semantic meaning out of it. Since I write software to achieve a real world
goal, a lack of semantics is impossible. (Contrast Genetic Programming, where
there are no semantics.) If you read the philosophy of mathematics, especially
the linguistics of mathematics, you'll see the same argument. If a theorem has
no metaphorical meaning, then there can be no such thing as an interesting
theorem. All theorems become equally (and thus not) interesting.
