The Seventeen Wallpaper Tilings
Some of the most fascinating tilings are the so-called wallpaper tilings.
These tilings are so symmetric that they can be built up by starting with a
single tile by following simple sets of rules. But perhaps the most
interesting thing about the wallpaper tilings is that there are exactly
seventeen of them!

Wallpaper Symmetry
Wallpaper tilings are the ones that have really big symmetry groups. This is
just a more technical way of saying that wallpaper tilings are really
symmetric. In fact, wallpaper tilings are the most symmetric tilings possible,
and this is what makes them wallpaper tilings!
As we have seen, a symmetric tiling is one where you could shift a copy in
some way so that is would exactly match up with the original. The collection
of all symmetries (i.e. different ways to do the shifting) is called the
symmetry group of the tiling. In general, there are infinitely many symmetries
for an infinite tiling, so it is a little hard to say what it means for one
infinite symmetry group to be bigger than another.

One way of getting at what it means to have a big symmetry group is to think
about moving yourself instead of moving the tiling. Pick any tile in the
infinite tiling, and imagine you are standing on the tile. Look around at the
surrounding tiling, and remember what it looks like. Now pick a direction, and
walk in that direction. As you walk along stop at each tile you step on and
look around, and ask yourself if surrounding tiling looks exactly as it did on
the original tile. If it does, then you could pick the tiling up, retrace your
steps, and set it back down on itself so it exactly matches up.

Now we have a good way to measure the size of a symmetry group. The more
directions you can walk and come to a place that looks like your starting
point, the bigger the group. A tiling has wallpaper symmetry if no matter
which direction you go, you eventually come to a spot that looks the same! If
you compare the pictures below, the one on the right has wallpaper symmetry,
but in the one on the left, you could only walk right or left if you wanted to
come back to a place like your starting point.




Fundamental Domains Revisited
A basic but important observation about symmetry is that symmetric objects are
usually assembled out of smaller pieces. For example, the the picture on the
right has rotational symmetry and is made out of three identical red
squiggles.



This is very natural when you think about how symmetry works. If you can pick
a symmetric figure and lay it back down on top of itself so it matches up,
there will generally be a lot of overlap. Even if you throw away part of the
overlap, the original figure and the shifted figure will generally still give
you back the whole picture.




The bigger the symmetry group, the smaller the piece that is required to
rebuild the tiling. The basic idea goes like this. Make a list of all the
symmetries of the tiling. In other words, list all the ways the tiling can be
shifted around so that it exactly matches back up with itself. Now look for a
small piece of the tiling that is always shifted enough so that it doesn't
overlap itself. If you choose the right piece, like the shaded areas in the
pictures above, you can rebuild the entire tiling just by shifting that piece
around by every symmetry on your list! We can think of the symmetry group as a
set of "rules" instructing us how to tile the infinite plane with the original
tile.

MATERIALS & TOOLS NEEDED:

Gather & prepare all the materials & tools.Concrete for slab foundation with
2 #3 re-bars (optional) or wood for platform foundation
2 - 94 lb. Bags Portland Cement for 3/16" coating
4 - 94 lb. Bags if 3/8" coating is required
45 Gallons (¼ cu. yd.) Sand
5 Gallon Bucket
3 Pressure Treated 2x4's x8'
Materials for Doors (2 sheets of plywood, hinges & hasp)
Hammer, Trowel, Step Ladder

GROUND WORK:

Prepare the soil for your foundation.Clean the ground of sod & all organic
material.
Level & compact the soil. Unsettled soil can be compacted by flooding
thoroughly with water. After it drains, stomp the area with your foot.








































CONCRETE SLAB FOUNDATION:

Most functional foundation. Uses 1 1/3 cubic yard of concrete for a 3” slab
with footer.

CONCRETE MIX:

1 part portland cement + 3 parts sand (or 2 parts sand + 2 parts gravel) +
water to blend.Dig a footer around the outside edge to a minimum of 5" deep &
6" wide.
Form the slab to dimensions shown using 2x4's, or any serviceable wood. Stake
in place to retain shape.
Mix & pour the concrete 3" thick in the center & 8" in the footer.
Place the #3 re-bars or #8 galvanized steel wire into the wet concrete about
2" in from edge & 2" below the surface. Overlap the ends after making a
complete loop around the footer.
Level & trowel the surface.
Bend a ½" hook on one end of the 24" galvanized rods & insert that end 4" into
the concrete footer at each corner. The rods should be 1" inside each corner
& leaning outward slightly above the slab to be concreted into the riser panel
seams later.

In areas subject to Hurricane force winds, it is very important that the dome
be secured
to a concrete foundation or anchored to the ground so the wind will not lift
it.
In areas not subject to high winds, the foundation & tie down requirements can
be reduced.

ALTERNATE
WOOD PLATFORM
FOUNDATION:

Satisfactory foundation suitable for steep sites or where a concrete slab is
not practical.
Drill 3/16" holes through he floor deck at each corner of the dome. Bend a ½"
hook on the bottom end of the 24" galvanized rods & insert them all the way up
through the deck. Drive a nail beside each rod to lock in place.
The rods will later be concreted into dome seams.

ALTERNATE
COMPACTED EARTH FOUNDATION:

Serviceable foundation, but without the strength of a footer & floor, it is
the least wind resistant.
Select a level spot higher than the surrounding ground.
Construct the dome on leveled & compacted soil.
Once the riser panels are concreted, use the 45' #8 galvanized wire to wrap
around the lower edge of the riser panels. Apply an additional layer of
concrete over the wire for additional weight & strength.



















SIDE ELEVATION


JOINING THE SEAMS:

Contact Adhesive is provided to secure the panels seams until the dome can be
concreted.
Keep the lid on the container to prevent it from drying out. Storing the
brush submerged in the adhesive will prevent it from hardening.


A can of Expanding Form can be purchased from hardware stores and used as an
adhesive or used to fill voids in EPS. Try to use all of the foam on the same
day because it is difficult to clear the nozzle and open the valve if it has
hardened overnight. 
Apply a thin layer of the contact adhesive to the edge of both panels that
will join together. The adhesive can be applied with a brush or item similar
to a putty knife.
If you allow the adhesive to dry the two painted surfaces will immediately
stick to each other. Using this method you must make sure that the panels
will be flush on the inside and that the corners align when they first touch.
If you apply the adhesive to one panel and join it to the other panel before
the adhesive dries it will act much like glue and allow for repositioning.
Using this method you must hold the joint together while it dries.

Apply a small bead along the edge of one of the adjoining panels. Place the
panels together and avoid moving the panels until the foam has had time to
harden, about 30 minutes. Long finishing nails can be used to hold the panels
in place by pushing them through one panel & into the adjoining panel.
Try to dispense some of the foam periodically from the can before it has time
to harden in the nozzle.

1st ROW: RISER PANEL ASSEMBLY:

The riser panels are placed & joined with adhesive. Place the 7 riser panels
R & join them together with adhesive. Be sure the square edge is down & the
beveled side is to the outside.
Once joined, the inside corners of the panels should be 6 ft. from the center
of the slab. The outside edges of the panels should be about 1" from the slab
edge. Adhesive can be used to secure them to the slab.
Place & join the half size riser panels RL & RR on each side of the entryway
opening.
Allow sufficient time for the adhesive to harden before advancing to the next
row.
2nd ROW: TRIANGULAR PANEL ASSEMBLY:

Triangular panels H will fit in any direction. Triangular panels P must be
placed with the P oriented as in the diagram. 
Attach the triangular panels P & H of the next row as in the diagram.
Secure with finishing nails & adhesive.
Allow sufficient time for the adhesive to harden before advancing to the next
row.
Panels PL & PR are set to the left & right of the entryway as shown.

3rd ROW: TRIANGULAR PANEL ASSEMBLY:

Reinforcing tape is added & the 3rd row is assembled the same as the 2nd.
Allow sufficient time for the adhesive to harden before advancing to the next
row.Tape the outside of the horizontal seams at the top of the riser panels
with 1 strip of fiberglass reinforcing tape. Place it within the bevels of
the seam to safeguard against pulling up the tape during concreting. The ends
may be held in place with nails & the adhesive.
Join the panels of the 3rd row as in the diagram.
The TL & TR panels must be placed so that the top of the opening is straight &
level.


TOP ROW TRIANGULAR PANEL ASSEMBLY:

The top of the Utility Dome may be assembled on the ground.Using adhesive,
assemble top 5 panels on the ground.
Tape the seams between them with fiberglass tape.
Set in place as 1 unit, trimming panels for fit.
Tape all the remaining seams with fiberglass reinforcing tape. Tape a second
time around the seam between the riser panels & 1st row of triangular
panels.
ENTRYWAY ASSEMBLY:

Entryway panels may be joined as each row is placed, or after all the other
panels are placed.
A notch must be cut in the 2 P panels that are next to the T panels. The
notch will square the opening, allowing the E2, E3 & E4 to fit.
Join with adhesive to the adjacent panels, fitting flush to one another &
aligning the outside edges. The

Dzogczen

zostaje wyeliminowana. Tak samo każdy człowiek, kiedy odkrywa swoją prawdziwą
naturę, przełamuje całą ciemność, negatywność, konceptualne myślenie. Jest to
jak odkrycie przejrzystego nieba bez żadnych chmur.(...) W prawdziwym stanie
kontemplacji jesteśmy zrelaksowani i nie tworzymy, ani nie blokujemy myśli,
lecz pozostajemy obecni bez rozproszenia w chwilach, które są zarówno
obecnością, jak i brakiem myśli. Kontemplacja dzogczen jest obecnością w
stanie poza myślami, ponieważ konceptualny, stwarzający myśli umysł - który
jest przyzwyczajony do utrzymywania uwagi dzięki stałemu wytwarzaniu myśli -
znajduje się w stanie spoczynku.
Nauki dzogczen nie są ani filozofią, ani doktryną religijną, ani tradycją
kulturową. Zrozumienie nauk oznacza odkrycie własnego prawdziwego stanu,
odartego ze wszystkich oszustw i zafałszowań, jakie umysł tworzy na własny
użytek. Głębokie znaczenie tybetańskiego terminu "dzogczen" (Wielka
Doskonałość) odnosi się do prawdziwego, pierwotnego stanu jednostki, a nie do
transcendentalnej rzeczywistości.

Michnik kołem sie toczy
Nigdy nie ukrywałem braku entuzjazmu wobec Adama Michnika, choć w dzisiejszej
Polsce nie przysparza to tzw. publicity. Ściśle mówiąc, moja sympatia dla
Michnika skończyła się krótko po roku 1989. Wowczas to uległ on metamorfozie,
będącej jeszcze jednym w historii dowodem, iż nie ma bardziej zajadłych
reakcjonistów, niż byli rewolucjoniści, gdy się wreszcie znajdą u władzy.
Michnik lat siedemdziesiątych i osiemdziesiątych imponował uporem, z jakim nie
godził się na ówczesny model rządów i ich praktyki. Michnik lat
dziewięćdziesiątych, na mocy dziwnych praw rządzących ludzką psychiką,
dostrzegł w swych dotychczasowych prześladowcach przyjaciół i poczuł się
częścią peerelowskiego, czy raczej już wówczas post-peerelowskiego
etablishmentu; całą zaś zajadłość, z jaką dawniej konspirował, knuł
i "działał", skierował przeciwko tym, którzy chcieliby jego zdaniem
poprowadzić antykomunistyczną rewolucję za daleko. Czyli przeciwko tym,
których trybunem czuł się dawniej, a którzy za jego "przesiadką" z obozu
Pokrzywdzonych do obozu Uprzywilejowanych nie nadążyli.
Trudno mi to osobiście zrozumieć, ale fakt jest faktem. W roku, powiedzmy,
1985, gniew Michnika budziły rozmaite draństwa dotykające ludzi ze strony
władzy. Natomiast w roku 1995 miotał mocne słowa na tych, którzy dla ofiar
owych draństw chcieli szukać sprawiedliwości. "Ja niczego się nie domagam za
lata prześladowań" - deklarował, przeciwstawiając swą chwalebną powściągliwość
tym, którzy żądali rozliczenia krzywd wyrządzonych przez PRL. Deklaracja ta
zresztą nie uwzględniała faktu, iż w końcu nie dla swych talentów
dziennikarskich, tylko właśnie w nagrodę za owe lata dostał Michnik "Wyborczą"
i stał się jednym z najbardziej wpływowych ludzi w Polsce.
Trzeba dodać - nie tylko wpływowych, ale i otoczonych kultem, zakrawającym na
bałwochwalstwo. Mam wrażenie, że ten kult zaszkodził byłemu nieprzejednanemu
opozycjoniście bardziej, niż cokolwiek innego. Są ludzie, którzy w dymie
kadzideł się krztuszą, są i tacy, którym uderza on do głowy - tutaj mamy do
czynienia z tym drugim przypadkiem. Można było obserwować, jak z czasem ton
artykułów i wstępniaków naczelnego GW nabiera coraz większej pewności, jak
zaczyna on wczuwać się w rolę oberautorytetu moralnego, przemawiać z pozycji
osoby nie tyle nawet reprezentującej jedynie słuszne poglądy, co prostu
stojącej nieskończenie wyżej pod względem moralnym.
Co Michnik głosi, czy jest to do przyjęcia, czy nie - to inna sprawa i
chwilowo zostawmy ją na boku. Sam sposób, w jaki funkcjonuje on w polskim
życiu umysłowym, jest dowodem tegoż życia degeneracji. Proszę zwrócić uwagę,
że już od lat redaktor naczelny "Wyborczej" konsekwentnie odmawia
jakiejkolwiek konfrontacji swoich poglądów z argumentami kogoś, kto ich nie
podziela. Redaktor Michnik występuje w telewizji czy publicznych dyskusjach
tylko pod warunkiem, że albo będzie w ogóle sam, albo z "dyskutantami",
których on wyznaczy, potakującymi mu we wszystkim.
Nie jest w tym jedyny. Ludzie, którzy uważają się za proroków czy posłańców
Wielkiej Idei nie dyskutują z zasady, pod tym względem zachowanie
naczelnego "Wyborczej" łudząco przypomina zachowanie pewnego Ojca-dyrektora.
Dostrzegam w takiej postawie wyrachowanie. Co by się stało, gdyby
oberautorytet zniżył się do uczciwej dyskusji z kimś nie otaczanym takim
uwielbieniem, i gdyby taki ktoś go, mówiąc potocznie, "zagiął"? A w wypadku
redaktora Michnika zdarzyłoby się niezawodnie. Z własnego wyboru otoczył się
on lizusami i klakierami, zapewniającymi go, że zawsze ma rację, i wtedy, gdy
mówi "czarne', i gdy chwilę potem poprawia się na "białe". W efekcie zabrnął w
swym nauczaniu w takie sprzeczności, że nijak się tego nie da obronić.
Utrzymanie zdobytej pozycji wymaga więc wytłumienia wszelkiej dyskusji, użycia
całej medialnej potęgi do narzucenia kandydatom na inteligentów
przeświadczenia, że ten, kto nie zadza się z Adamem Michnikiem jest
prawdopodobnie szubrawcem, a co najmniej człowiekim nieinteligentnym,
niewykształconym i prymitywnym.
Zabawy Historii. Przez długie lata swej młodości Michnik starał się zmusić
ideologów i praktyków komunizmu, aby z nim dyskutowali. Oczywiście nie mogli
się na to zgodzić, ponieważ komunizmu nie dało się obronić żadnym racjonalnym
argumentem. Trzeba było kłopotliwego "poszukiwacza sprzeczności" uciszać. Na
starość znalazł się on w sytuacji odwrotnej.

może zamiast grzebać mu w duszy i szukać przyczyn lepiej przeleczyć objawo - i

Further positions followed: president of the Carnegie Institute in Washington,
DC (1939); chair of National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (1939);
director of Office of Scientific Research and Development. This last role was
as presidential science advisor, which made him personally responsible for the
6,000 scientists involved in the war effort. During World War II, Bush worked
on radar antenna profiles and the calculation of artillery firing tables. He
proposed the development of an analogue computer, which later became the
Rockefeller Differential Analyser.

Bush is the pivotal figure in hypertext research. His ground-breaking 1945
paper, "As We May Think," speculated on how a machine might be created to
assist human reasoning, and introduced the idea of an easily accessible,
individually configurable storehouse of knowledge. This machine, which he
dubbed "memex," in various ways anticipated hypermedia and the World Wide Web
by nearly half a century.

) ) .The Genesis Machine

The idea of a Genesis machines have been popularised graphically in sci-fi
movies before. The idea is that instead of manually colonising and building up
a planet to a habitable state - i.e. terraforming it to Earth like conditions,
we send a small machine that has all the capabilities built in to transform a
dead planet to Earth like environment making the whole operation effortless
and cheap. Obviously we are in no position to manage entire planets like what
we see in science fiction movies where magic rays permeate throughout the
planet from a device and terraform the entire planet surface and atmosphere in
a matter of minutes. But with shape changing robots we are in a position to
discuss the manufacture of a Genesis device that could transplant Earth bound
life to other planets.

The final results proposed here comprises of a machine to make and maintain
glass bubbles that are fabricated on an alien terra with the foundations
buried below the ground level as illustrated in figure 1. The glass bubbles
are greenhouses populated with Earth bound plants and insects.

The soil system within the glass bubble is completely isolated from the soil
system of the alien terra. There are pipes and collection trays installed at
the bottom of the bubble in the soil system to catch draining fluids and
recycle them. The plants, insects, temperature, pressure, gases and humidity
inside the bubbles are controlled to an earth like environment. There are
sealable tunnels that link the bubbles to allow mixing of the environment in
different bubbles.

The system as illustrated in figure 1 requires glass to be manufactured on the
alien surface. Also required is some method for synthesising soil and
elementary gases.

All this is possible in a module no bigger than one or two double decker
busses if shape changing robots are used.

The proposed system will land on a planet surface typical to that of Mars.
Shape changing robots then crawl out and unfolds and erects a solar array. The
solar arrays are used to collect light and focus it to a point in an oven
where temperatures can be raised to several thousand degrees. A shape changing
robot can gather local material and pour it into the oven to make gases and
materials which are distilled and fractionated to obtain different gases and
materials which it will analyse to make new chemicals. Everything from water,
soil and earth like gases to metals should be obtainable from the rocks if it
is vapourised in the oven at sufficient temperatures and re-distilled back
into the elements. Obviously, some fractions are mixtures of chemicals and
also some elements will be rare and require a much larger amount of materials
to be sent through the solar oven to extract. The mixtures can be reprocessed
to yield finer fractions.

Some of the first materials it can make are metals that it could then polish
and fabricate into a larger solar array. If it carried a great many computer
boards, dies and moulds, it can use the metals and computer boards to
fabricate more robotic cubes. With a greater number of robots, the machine can
be used to build large tanks to hold gases and fractionated materials from the
larger ovens. Within days, the system would have exponentially expanded
production to build very large structures using nothing but local materials.

The machine can be directed to synthesise glass tiles from the rocks and bolt
it together with metals to make a green house. It could also user thicker
glass and ceramic like materials made from the rocks to make the super
structures needed to support the glass bubbles. The system can be made self
experimenting to formulate the best chemicals and compositions from the local
materials.

If the machine is holding on to enough seeds and insects, then it can put that
into the greenhouse to make a living transplant of an Earth like environment.

Construction

Before you start reading this section, you need to know what a shape changing
robot is and all of its capabilities if you have not read this site fully
beforehand. For a general introduction that describes the technology in lay
terms or a much more detailed technical introduction click on the relevant
links. How these cubes are built, how they are powered, how they communicate,
how they move and what prototypes have been built can also be found by
clicking the relevant links in this HTML document. Most important, you should
also look at the fractal fingers and fractal tooling section and 100%
automation and self repair sections.

To keep the discussion brief, we are not going to discuss known technologies
such as engines, power supplies, telemetry etc because these can be ordered
off the shelf or if its special equipment then it can be customised for space
applications by any one of a thousand sub-contractors to the space industry.
What we want to discuss are the practical details of making the Genesis
Device. Surprisingly, there are very few elements to this device. Figure 2
illustrates the device to indicate what it may look like:-

The Genesis device is built from fractal shape changing robots and has fractal
fingers and fractal tooling to make all the necessary structures on alien
terra. Large robotic cubes are used for heavy lifting operations but
internally they are hollow and carry spare components and small robotic cubes.
Tools are packed into the system wherever there is space. The only major
component that it carries within the system and which accounts for practically
most its weight is rolls of structural material.

Huh?

How can a robot that is carrying some tools, whose bulk is taken up mostly by
rolled up sheet material ever become a Genesis Device? Well, read on!

The rolls are composed of different materials and different thickness for
different applications. If you needed to make some oxygen cylinders, you would
need thick steel. If you wanted to hold water, you can make do with thin
plastic sheeting. You fold and/or cut and weld and/or glue sheets together to
make an infinite variety of structures whether its in space or on alien terra.
Some examples of a shape changing robot making a large structure is
illustrated in figure 3.

We can array up the robots to build very large structures such as the solar
mirrors, radar and shelters. The sheets are rolled out and cut to suit the
requirements at hand. The fractal fingers take care of all the material
handling you might encounter. You can make box girders for instance for
supporting the solar mirrors. These girders have slots in them as detailed in
the civil engineering and construction section and they can bolted together
using cubes as illustrated in figure 4. Almost no effort is required to make
extremely complex structures. All that are needed is girders with slots milled
into them and turn tables to manipulate the girders around the corners.

The robots can also deform to the scale of the objects it is synthesising. In
figure 3, in making the hangar shelter, it has stretched itself over the roof
of the hangar, and support its weight from underneath while the steel plates
are welded together. Shape changing robots are powerful enough to curve thick
steel plates to make the hangar, the solar reflectors and anything else like
large pipes and storage tanks as those found in large industrial complexes.
Figure 4 below animates how the robot can climb obstacles several times its
own height. (To see moving instead of static picture, you need latest browsers

Introduction to NLP.
What I am going to do today is just a little introduction. It will give you a
good idea of what the Neuro Linguistic Programming is in general. And when you
are done with this text you will have enough to begin applying these
techniques and you will also know where to go next and what to expect.

Lets start with a little demonstration here. I am going to say something, and
you just listen. Ready? Monica Lewinsky... OK, some people smiled. What
happened? What happened is that the name worked like a key to some memories,
not even memories - but the state of mind associated with these memories. In
NLP it is called an anchor. Now, how can we use it?

Well, the Monica anchor by itself is not a very useful tool. But lets first
understand how it works. First we need to know what we want. We want to bring
a person to some state of mind. Then we look in person's past - was there
something like what we are tryiiing to do? Then we look for an anchor: in our
case it was the name - Monica Levinsky.

So lets take a more realistic example. You are going through the job
interview. And of course you want the employer to like you. Can you
say "Monica Lewinsky"? Probably not. But what you can do is to create an
anchor on the spot. Say, every time the employer smile, you do something like
that (touching his wrist). This gesture is very covert, it is hard to catch.
But soon enough - if you do it right as there are important little details
here - soon enough he will feel better when you do it. And then you look at
him... or her for that matter... and you say something like "so what do you
think about me working for you (gesture)..."

I would say this one trick alone if done properly, will almost double your
chances. How can it not - if when he thinks about you working for him
(gesture) he just FEEL SO GOOD!

You all probably know about the Pavlov's dogs. The dog that was conditioned to
salivate whenever the bell rings. What most people don't realize is that we
are like this dog too. OK, not all of us but all men are dogs, how about that?
And when we create a link between the stimulus (a bell) and a response
(salivation) - it is no different from when we create a link between our
competitor on the business negotiations and a sense of disgust and
frustration.

How do we do that? There are few techniques. For example: I can stay here when
I talk about happy children in Canada during Christmas and here when I talk
about unhappy children in Somali and here again when I talk about myself and
here when I talk about my competitor. The place is becoming what is called a
spacial anchor. Got that?

Now, in the NLP Tutorial I will show how to combine techniques and how to
apply them sequentially and how to make them work even when you are not there
anymore. Because when you leave - the anchor you created stays.

OK. So what is NLP? The abbreviation - and a discipline - was created by John
Grinder and Richard Bandler and it stands for the Neuro Linguistic Programming
(see List of recommended books). Which is just another way of
saying "programming people's mind using words". It was first created as a tool
of mental manipulation but then people come to REALIZE that we can also use it
to manipulate ourselves and... Well, I'll talk about it later.

Now, there is a price to pay when you learn NLP or anything like that. You
see, when I say something that is not entirely true - it is called a lie, I
mean in the real life. Not in NLP, not in psychology. Here it is called a
therapeutic metaphor. Which is fine but at some point people just lose track
of what is said to motivate them and what is said to educate them. Can you
heal the cancer using words? How the hell would I know? But I sure heard a lot
of stories...

So lets come to a nice agreement, OK? I will keep those fairy tales to a
minimum. I am not saying that you cannot heal (because you probably can,
especially using the State of Power techniques) or that you cannot do some
other miracle things but I will not tell you anything that I was not
witnessing myself. Unless. Unless I tell you that it is not my experience,
kind of a fair warning.

I remember being at two Hypnosis seminars, both in the same city and there was
two different teachers. And they both told us the same story. Nothing special
about it, but both times the story started with words "one of my patients". It
was fun.

So what can you expect from NLP? You can use it to affect people's behavior
and to change their state of mind. Then you can deal with phobias - what takes
6 to 12 month of traditional psychotherapy - will take 5-10 minutes in NLP,
see the Free NLP E.mail course for details. You can use it to set and achieve
goals. How about this goal - in 5 years I want to have a million dollars? Not
guaranteed but quite possible, but I never witnessed it (gesture). And you can
deal with traumas.

Now, traumas are important. Say, when you was a child you saw a cat smashed by
a car. And it was overwhelming. Now your unconscious mind - by the way, in NLP
you are going to hear this words a lot - unconscious mind is protecting you.
How? It will lock the memory so that you don't remember. And you don't. Just
from time to time it might - or might not - present the memory - or whatever
is left of it - to your conscious mind for reevaluation. That's when people
start screaming, going into depressions and so on. And unconscious mind
says "OOPS! I better do it later". And it does it again later.

Now, in addition to screaming and depressions there is one more unpleasant
thing here. Keeping negative memory suppressed takes energy. Your energy.

So using NLP to find and discharge those so called "negative blocks" can be
very helpful. I remember when I was learning NLP, my teacher did a technique
on me - one of the techniques from so-called NLP New Code (see books by Robert
Dilts in the list of recommended books). It was the last thing for the day,
class was over, so I said good bye and left. And then as I was walking towards
my car I have noticed that I am a little bit jumping, you know. And laughing.
And singing. Which is like totally not my style of walking, by the way. And
for the next 30 minutes I felt better than ever in my life and I mean it. I -
see, I am still smiling when I think about it.

I still have no idea by the way, what block did I loose that day but sometimes
people do remember and sometimes it is not pleasant at all, especially when it
was not done properly. I remember having a client long time ago... Well, it
seems like a long time. I was a beginner and I made all mistakes I could. He
had a minor problem and I did what is called a Time Line - a very powerful
tool for working with someone's (or your own) past and future (see NLP
Tutorial for more details on Time Line Therapy or find the book "TLT and the
basis of personality by T.James and W. Woodsmall in the list of recommended
books). Remember the goal of having a million dollars? That's how I would do
it - using the Time Line. So I made couple of mistakes and suddenly a client's
suppressed memory aroused. Just imagine: the guy has a nice life, he is in
good relations with his family... All he wanted was to quit smoking. Which I
believe he did, but as an unexpected extra bonus he remembered that - you see,
he had a brother who died when he was a kid. An accident, as he thought. And
now he remembers that this little boy was killed in front

Now recall the conversation, condense, picking out three primary facts as key

words.

Take a deep breath and envision these three key words in BIG BOLD BLOCK print

Now positively state with confidence and courage your first key word bringing

to mind the statement it refers to - as you do, anchor that thought by

The Rainbow Bridge

In a class I recently put together, we were working on fear. This is brother

to anxiety, what Paul Durbin, Ph.D. refers to as number one in the unholy

trinity.

This pair of troublemakers seems to be prominent in our society today. It

paralyzes us from making decisions, therefore removing our chances for

control of our life or even living it to its fullest.

Fear tends to immobilize us and anxiety clouds our thought process while were

stuck.

In this workshop we looked past events, present circumstance and future

presentations. We looked at how we came to some of our best decisions and what

our expectations were. Then we looked at how the outcome, when we made the

decisions, were within our realm of control.

We tried to determine the reality factor and how we as a society feel anxious

about the probabilities before they even appear on the horizon. It's okay to

plan ahead, to lock yourself in fear without cause is not okay.



Of course, lots of things come into play in decision making. There's a belief

system and a value system that are imbedded deep in the psyche; programming

from childhood. There's history of past failures and bad feelings from people

affected.

The workshop was eight hours and I ended it with this NLP technique I learned

from Dr. Wil Horton and expanded on.

I call it the "Rainbow Bridge".


I have my clients imagine or visualize themselves at the entrance to an old

stone arch bridge. It is dusk and they are deep in contemplation of a decision

they made a while back that turned out very well. It was something they allow

their intuition to contribute to. I go into the whole NLP talk of see it,

feel it, hear yourself, taste the success, etc. I anchor and let them assign

a color to that success. I have them notice that the globe on the lamppost

beside them is now glowing that very color and they should bathe in its light;

the color of success, clear, intense, bright. Anchor once again, allowing the

feeling to grow in intensity.

Disassociate/break connection. Mention the night sky, the air whatever it


takes.

Next I have them think of a decision they did not make in a timely fashion and

how the outcome affected them. I had them go through the process of loss of

control and the fear and the probability factors. I ask them to reflect on the

feelings of that moment in time and how they dealt with the situation. What


affect did it have on their self-esteem? What would have change if they had

followed through with their intuition? I had them go through the NLP talk

again; feel it, see it, taste it, smell it, does the feeling have a sound,

texture, etc. Then we give it color. Again I anchor on the opposite shoulder.

(You are free to anchor where you feel proper to your position. I was

standing behind the group sitting in a circle.) The color of opportunity lost.

It was always duller than before. I could feel the lower vibration! I make

them do a comparison.




I break association once again and NOW we go back to the light of success,

anchoring once more and then go into comparing using both anchors to

neutralize the negative and bring the good feeling up and dismiss the lower

vibration memory.



You can continue across the "bridge" using as many lampposts as necessary. I

used five lampposts using the same scenario, always having the positive first

then introducing the negative or haunting memory.

Other questions, I used, were "Remember a time you opened yourself up to

meeting new people?" Counter question "Remember a time you had an opportunity

to meet someone really special and you avoided it?" "Remember something you

did spontaneously that worked out really well?" "Remember something you

avoided?"


As you can see the effort is well worth the ridding of negatives in the

mindset of your client. It takes the sting out of some negative occurrences

and in some instances if the positives are really powerful it totally removes

the haunting sensation of a lost opportunity in the past. This allows your


client to move forward with a stronger conviction and a positive gain.

I'm afraid you haven't been "going against the flow" as you suggested when you
said:

"What a joy to find fellows of enough taste and discernment to spot a rubbish
film, rather than get caught up in the surrounding hype."

Rather than view the film with a discerned independent mind you've hopped on
the bandwagon and followed all the other sheep.

Star Wars, in my opinion, is a fantastic adventurous story about "the little
people" going on a journey of discovery. A journey that brings them closer to
something much bigger than themselves in which they can give justice to the
world/universe.

It is corny and unbelievable sometimes, the line where Anakin's mother
says "You've brought hope to those who have none" after Anakin won the pod
race just didn't have to be in the film. And the bit where Anakin flies off
and destroys the droid ship is a bit unbelievable. But the thing is Star Wars
is a make believe entertaining series of films with a deliberately weak-ish
plot to get the basic story across.

What makes the films so entertaining is the "feel" you get in the Star Wars
Universe. The thing I hate about Star Trek is that all the science is "clean".
The consoles are always clean and tidy. There isn't ever any mess with bits of
equipment lying around. Even the ships are always left in a pretty state by
the end of the film. Also (to tangent back to the original thread) the Star
Treak series never progresses, someone pushes a magic reset button at the end
of each episode. I guess the idea is that you can pick it up easily at the
start of the next episode (rather than Babylon 5) but the overall picture
hardly progresses through the series. This could be excused when compared to
the films of Star Wars but even the Star Trek films are like this.

Star Wars on the other hand has the best of both worlds. With a brief catch up
at the start you can pick up any of the 4 films and watch them through with
little trouble in gauging what's going on. BUT at the same time a bigger story
is being played out.


Arrrgh it's midnight and I feel like a scene in "Human Traffic".... I'll write
more soon... but back to you Wigwam.

No offence Tim M BTW... but it's like the 4X ad... there are things where you
just can't insult.. and Star Wars is one of them :)

Neuro linguistic programing is just another way of saying "programming
people's mind using words". It was created by two people, John Grinder and
Richard Bandler by analyzing successfull people and finding out what they have
in common in terms of behaviour.

The modern Hypnotic techniques are part of Neuro linguistic programing and not
a very big part as there is much more in persuasion and social influence
techniques then just using Hypnotic scripts to achieve hypnotic persuasion,
even if instant hypnotic induction is by all means the most dramatic in terms
of impressing people.

It is amazing, as people come to NLP and they begin to change, and soon enough
they forget about problems they used to have - often forget to such an extent
that they wouldn't believe you when you remind them.

So where can this stuff be used?

There are many areas of life where people can apply modern persuasion and
social influence techniques. As people are easily controllable by words, the
Mental Manipulation methods and rapid hypnosis induction techniques have now
been accepted as everyday practice. Using covert hypnosis and more generic
neuro linguistic programing techniques - that is also called nlp in sales,
mass media, advertising manipulation and politics is the fact of our everyday
life. On this site you will find all you need to recognize and understand
these coersive persuasion and come up with your own hypnosis induction scripts
to make - if you have to - your persuasion tactic much more powerful.

However Neuro Linguistics is not necessarily a bad thing. Because as you learn
hypnosis you might discover that Hypnotic techniques and especially neuro

Personal Power begins.

The success psychology had a huge leap during the last decades. We use (just

positive change hypnosis to achieve changes and make them permanent and
Timeline Therapy to alter the person's past experience! We can even learn to
work directly with our internal organs using State of Power techniques!

that can SMILE or FEEL GOOD or ENJOY life? And still - it is a very useful
metaphor as it might help you to LEARN to appreciate you brain a little bit
more. Here it is.

Let's say you bought a computer. And there is no manual. NONE. Is that a
problem? Of course not! We are all intelligent people. We can figure out how
to turn this thing on - why do we need a manual? It is working fine and it is
showing us a screensaver...

As you think about it, you might realize that our brain is like this computer.
And regardless the fact that it came without a manual, we don't FEEL we need
to DO SOMETHING about it. We are sure that showing a nice screensaver, so to
speak, is all our "black box" is supposed to do.

And we are missing so much because of that!

It was not overnight when people REALIZE that they own the most powerful
computer in existence. And right now - it is not a black box anymore! There
are amazing things some of those "computers" can do.

Some of them?

And this is the point where some of you might say something like that: yes,
there are gifted people. But I am not one of them. They can do miracles with
their brain. I cannot. Right?

WRONG!

Let's continue our "computer" metaphor. Would you say that "yes, YOUR Pentium
can run this WONDERFULL software, but my Pentium is different - it cannot do
it"? All Pentiums can do same things, if YOU READ THE MANUAL. Now, what if we
say that "all brains can do whatever one of them can"?

It seems so strange. And I have to admit - it seemed strange to me too. And at
the beginning I was skeptical as I didn't come to NLP for personal development
(that was long time ago and I think different now). I came to NLP to learn
these cool hypnotic stuff.

And yes, in this articles and especially in the eBooks you will learn all
the "cool hypnotic" things AND you might also learn how to come up with your
own ideas that work on others... And it will be like 10% of the "unfair
advantage" people are getting from NLP. Because you see, after you read the
manual, you might become very GOOD in running someone else's computers.

As there are the remaining 90% - something that will really CHANGE YOUR LIFE -
is not in the ability to manipulate others but an ability to manipulate
yourself. You got a computer that can do ANYTHING and all you need to master
it is to read the manual.

READ THE MANUAL.

What should we expect from NLP and Hypnosis? What should we expect? It is
difficult to put it all in few lines because to understand how you can BENEFIT
from NLP you need to get some ideas of what it is... OK, I will do it briefly.

We are born as little omnipotent creatures. You got it right. Omnipotent. And
then as we walk through life, we are getting habits. Sometimes bad habits.
Ones that we don't know about. Like a habit of getting upset when people say
something bad about us. Or a habit to smoke when we are getting upset. Or a
habit to drink when we are smoking... Just kidding...

And there is a social programming too. You know. "This is the way a gentleman
supposed to behave". Well, maybe it is. And maybe it was five hundred years
ago and not anymore.

And there is a "family history". Like "there is a problem of extra weight in
this family". What are you saying? It is genetics? Not always. Not usually.
Not really. Not so. You see, (and much more about in in the eBook in chapter
about strategies) when the child is learning from parents, it is not what they
say that maters. It is what they do. So if the father is teaching the son
something like "damn it, you shouldn't swear you little bastard", what do you
think is the lesson the child is learning? Or when the mother eats chocolate
every five point three minutes... It is creating a tradition that can survive
in the family for many generations.

And there is also this thing called a "non-verbal communication". Let's have
an example. Let's say you are a man and you are approaching a woman. And you
are scared (more about this in the eBook, but the eBook is not about dating).
What happens is your body is TRANSMITTING a non-verbal signal to the woman "he
is scared. He is a looser". And you can learn all cool pickup lines in the
world and all cool hypnotic stuff, too - as long as you are afraid it will not
work.

And NLP gives you a set of tools to first, recognize the problem, as often we
have no idea that we have it. And second, to wipe it out. And when it
happens...

Have you ever seen a computer that is like "abused" by a user? It runs all
these little toolbars, and some background programs, and some programs that
were installed in the last millennium and never properly removed, and the two
(three) virus checkers that was never upgraded because no one knows they are
there, and...

And then you just CLEAN it, reboot it and NOW you have the most powerful
system free of all garbage and YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!

That's what NLP can do to your brain.

And then other people will notice it. Unconsciously - people are very good in
recognizing a powerful person when they see one. And - with or without your
new knowledge of NLP and Hypnosis - you will BECOME IRRESISTABLE.

Conclusion?

READ THE MANUAL.
