Police buck at painted square on floor 'cell'
The Queensland Police Union says officers at Mareeba, in the far north of the
state, are being forced to "detain" prisoners by telling them not to move from
a square painted on the floor.
Mr Wilkinson says a replacement police station is badly needed and it has been
ignored by the Government for another year.
Mr Wilkinson says while Mareeba officers try to provide a first-rate service to
the public, they are forced to work in third-rate facilities.
"They don't have a holding cell...the holding cell at the Mareeba police
station is a square painted on the floor...put your prisoner in that square and
say, 'don't move'...that's how ridiculous it is," he said
