GAZA: Murder and hatred are the first lessons at the Palestinian school for
terror. The children are keen to show reporters and visitors what they have
learned.
One of them is a five-year-old, dressed as a suicide bomber.
Another is a little girl proudly bathing her hands in the blood of her enemy.
Across the stage, innocent faces are looking down the sights of dummy sniper
rifles. This is a play performed by nursery school children on the outskirts of
Gaza City.
The props are all make-believe, but the poison that is being instilled is real.
From almost the moment they are able to speak, it seems, they are encouraged to
hate their Jewish neighbours.
The performance was staged in the Shateh refugee camp, where more than 75,000
people live. It marked the end of the school year for 1650 children attending
kindergartens run by the Al-Jamaiya Al-Islamiya Islamic association.
Unlike most nursery school plays, these are not based on fairytales. The little
girl with her hands stained red, for example, is re-enacting the murder of two
Israeli soldiers in Ramallah, when the killers triumphantly showed the blood of
their lynched and mutilated victims to a baying crowd.
The fear outside the Palestinian community is that children are being
brainwashed into glorifying death and terror. Clearly, it is already too late
here.
