Glassroth is a Jewish lawyer in Montgomery, Alabama. He is terribly offended by the presence of the Ten Commandments in the Rotunda of Alabama's Judicial Building. Roy S. Moore, an Evangelical Christian, is the chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. He put the Ten Commandments in the Rotunda and he wants them to stay there. Glassroth was so offended by the sight of the Ten Commandments that he brought a civil lawsuit against Judge Moore in the United States Federal District Court. Presiding over the court was Judge Myron H. Thompson, a Jimmy Carter appointee. On November 18, 2002, Judge Thompson issued a New Commandment— "Thou shalt remove the Ten Commandments within 30 days." As any reader of the Bible ought to know, it was Moses, the leader of the Jewish people, who first brought the Ten Commandments to the world. Those commandments are at the heart of the entire moral and legal structure of Western society. That a son of Moses' people should say, "It offends me going to work every day and coming face to face with that symbol," tells us all we need to know as to how estranged secular Jews like Glassroth have become from their authentic tradition. As an orthodox Jewish group whose mission it is to defend the authentic Torah viewpoint of Judaism from its falsifiers, we are deeply ashamed of this desecration of G-D's name as embodied in His Ten Commandments. We need more reminders of G-D's morality in public places, not less. We congratulate Judge Moore. He is a virtuous and decent man who is beloved of G-D. We are confident that he will ultimately prevail. Isaac Levy Chairman Odpowiedz Link Zgłoś
